Most software used with Zoom/modems should be set with the setup
STRING for a Hayes Smartmodem 2400, typically this is >>> AT&F&C1&D2 <<< or
pick Hayes 2400 from the selection. All PCs need the &C1&D2 - >>> Macs use
AT&F&C1&D0 <<< in the string. If any software has saved a string and uses
ATZ for an initialization, type AT&F&W in terminal mode to restore to
factory defaults. Then remove the ATZ & type in a correct string for that
software. Use XON/XOFF flow control, or NONE. (You can also try &C0 in a
MAC if you still have a problem).

To set speed in a non-V 2400 modem, just set the speed in the software
and type any command to the modem. Or call the modem (with it set to AA)
and the modem will answer at the caller's speed. Either case sets the modem
speed. There are no commands to set the speed.

If you have a Hi-speed Zoom modem (V series), use the same string.
Then lock (autobaud =OFF) DTE BPS 19,200, set CTS/RTS flow. In some cases
you also want S95=1 (to pass true connect speed, default is 0 which passes
DTE connect speed) and to turn OFF flow control, &K0, or for XON/XOFF &K4.

All Zoom external modems use standard RS232 connections. A standard
straight through 25 pin cable, or standard 9-pin to 25 pin or Mac
'Universal' cable is used.
