12-27-93 Fax Class

There are 3 types of Zoom faxmodems. HCS/MXS - Sendfax (send only),

Class-1 and Class-2. The software you use has to match the type of fax-

modem. Class refers to the way the Software talks to the modem, not the

kind of fax machine. Class-1 the software does most of the negotiating,

Class-2 the modem does the work. All fax machines should be Group-3

compatible, and all 'class' modems make group-3 compatible fax files. HCS

and MXS are send-only. AFC/AFX & Pkt-2400 are Class-1. All other Zoom

Faxmodems are Class-2. You can try Class-1 with Zoom V-series modems too.

HC2400R/MX2400R are data-only modems, as are modems with the TI

chipset, and old full-card 2400/1200 modems.

No Zoom FaxModem is CAS compatible without a proper CAS driver that

works with class-1 or 2 faxmodems.

BTW: Class-0 is no-class-fax, or DATA mode.
