A recording comes before the FAX machine answers

Sorry to say, because of the wide variety of voice/fax machines there
is no one answer that will work for all of them. Here are some that work
for various machines.

Call the number with the fax machine/recording device using
a telephone. Count the seconds from the beginning of the dial to
the end of the voice message. Devide the seconds by 2 and add 1.
For 12 seconds that would be 12/2=6+1=7. Put 7 commas AFTER the
phone number.

IE: 1-617-423-9231,,,,,,,

This tells the Faxmodem to wait for 14 seconds and THEN look for
the fax to answer. If you need something to tell the Fax device
to answer, that can go after the last comma. One device uses #1..

1-617-423-9231,,,,,,,#1

This also can work with an extension. Suppose you have to
dial 344 after the answer to get the fax machine, and it takes 20
seconds for the phone to answer after you dial.

423-9131,,,,,,,,,,,344

Another thing you can use is X1 (or NO call progress in SETUP) which
tells the modem NOT to recognise BUSY, which means it cannot get a FALSE
BUSY either.

Also you can try putting @ after the number, which looks for 4 seconds of
silence (after the recording). You can put any digits (or none) needed
after the @. To use the above examples....

423-9231@ or 423-9231@#1 or 423-9231@344
