Thanks for taking the time to look over SpexEdit Lite. SpexEdit Lite is
a shareware version of the heavy-duty professional editor from Little
Wing, SpexEdit. All of the features of SpexEdit are documented in the
help file accompanying SpexEdit Lite, although many are not implemented in
SpexEdit Lite.

You may obtain a demonstration version of SpexEdit that cannot save files
from CompuServe in the WINSHARE forum. SpexEdit is available from Little
Wing for $99.

SpexEdit was originally conceived to be a companion product to the soon-to-
released C++ browser product from Little Wing, Spex. Spex provides full
source code browsing of all your C++ files, including library code, without
using your compiler. Spex has a complete ANSI preprocessor, a C++ parser
with support for non-standard extensions, and a symbol table to give you
access to all of the prototypes, macros, class definitions, member
functions, and global functions in your code.

Unlike the "browsers" that are part of the integrated development
environments of the major compilers, Spex allows you to browse your code
before it compiles. The environments of Borland and Microsoft only let
you browse code after it has successfully compiled. Little Wing asks you,
developer to developer, when do you most need to browse source code, before
or after it has compiled?

Also unlike other browsers on the market, Spex does not have a built-in
editor. We use a simple protocol by which Spex can drive any editor that
is Spex-aware. Currently SpexEdit and SpexEdit Lite are the only
Spex-aware editors available but if Spex becomes popular enough we predict
that many editor developers will want to give their editor sophisticated
browser support by recognizing the simple Spex protocol.

To see how well the protocol works we encourage you to obtain the shareware
Windows Grep utility available on CompuServe by Huw Millington (100016,3452)
in the WINSHARE forum. This utility demonstrates how any reference tool
can drive a Spex-aware editor.

Please bear in mind that SpexEdit Lite is not free and is not in the public
domain. You may copy SpexEdit Lite freely but if you use it for more than
30 days, you legally and morally obligated to pay the $20 license fee.
Upon paying your registration fee, you will be given a registration code
that will turn off the shareware reminders. You will also receive
information about new releases of SpexEdit Lite. SpexEdit Lite will grow
with the SpexEdit product. As SpexEdit becomes more sophisticated the
standard features will be migrated to SpexEdit Lite, so your registration
of SpexEdit Lite is a wise investment in future functionality.
