  4     oz Golden Syrup
  4     oz Soft Dark Brown Sugar
  4     oz Butter Or Magarine
  6     oz Self Raising Flour
  2     oz Cocoa
  1        Egg, Beaten
    1/4 pt Single Cream or Milk
           ---------Topping-------
  4     oz Plain Chocolate or Cake 
           Covering
  4     oz fluid oz.Double Cream, 
           Whipped
           Flaked Almonds, Halved
           Walnuts or Chocolate Curls

Method

BASED ON A 750 WATT MICROWAVE OVEN

(1) Cut a strip of greaseproof paper to line the base and each end of a 23-cm
(9-inch) loaf dish.

(2)Place syrup, Brown sugar and butter or margarine in a large ovenproof bowl
and  microwave on HIGH for
about 2 minutes or until ingredients are melted, Stir.

(3) Add sieved flour and cocoa, mixing well together.

(4) Beat in egg and then stir in the cream or milk.

(5) Place the mixture in the prepared dish and cook for about 5 minutes on HIGH
or  until cooked in the
centre when tested. Rotate the container after every 2 minutes, if the oven
does not  have a turntable.

(6) Leave cake to stand for 5 minutes before turning out to cool.

(7) When completely cold, break the chocolate or cake covering into small
pieces,  place in a small bowl
and microwave on HIGH for about 1 minute, stirring after 30 seconds.

(8) Spread the chocolate over the top of the cake, allowing it to dribble over
the  edges and sides. Leave
to set

 (9) Decorate the top with piped cream and either flaked almonds, halved
walnuts or  chocolate curs.

MAKES ONE 23-cm (9-inch) LOAF-SHAPED CAKE
