      Title: Derby Mint Julep

--------------------------------SIMPLE SYRUP--------------------------------
      2 c  Sugar
      2 c  Water
           Fresh mint, uncrushed

-----------------------------------JULEP-----------------------------------
           Finely crushed ice
    1/2 tb Simple syrup
      2 oz Kentucky whiskey
           Sprig of mint

  Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water for 5 minutes without
  stirring. Fill a jar loosely with sprigs of fresh mint (uncrushed) and
  cover with the cooled syrup. Cap and refrigerate 12 to 24 hours. Discard
  the mint and make one julep at a time. Fill the julep cup with finely
  crushed ice, pour in syrup and Kentucky whiskey. Frost a cup, stick in a
  sprig of mint and serve at once.
