 1/2    c   dark brown sugar, firmly
            -packed
 1          rounded tablespoon all
            -purpose flour
 1      T   ground cinnamon
 1/4    t   ground cloves
 1/4    t   freshly grated nutmeg
 1/3    c   molasses
 7          or 8 tart green apples, peeled,
            -cored, and sliced
            -( I uuse Granny Smith
            -apples)
 1/2    c   raisins
 1/2    c   chopped walnuts
 1          pie crust
            -Sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.  Butter 2-inch-deep 1.5 quart baking dish.
Combine sugar, flour and spices in large bowl.  Add molasses and stir to form
paaaste.  Add apples, raisins and nuts and toss well.  Pack mixture into
baking
dish.

Roll enough pastry 1/8 inch thick to cover apples.  Drape over fruit.  Trim,
leaving 1/2 inch on all sides to tuck into dish.  Bake until crust is golden
brown, about 35 to 40 minutes.  Sprinkle top lightly with sugar.  Serve hot.
