Program Additions:

v1.11c

Added support for MD5 secure passwords. This feature is primarily
designed for outbound telnet sessions using the COMt communication
driver for Windows.

COMt is a shareware program that allows your favorite standard
communications program (QmodemPro) to communicate over TCP/IP. COMt is
a shareware program that should be registered if used regularly. You can
download the latest COMt program from the MSI HQ BBS as COMT.ZIP . For
additional information on COMt please contact Performance Designs at
CompuServe: 73017,1375, MCI Mail: 572-1706, Genie: PERFORM.DES or
Internet: comt@world.std.com

After you install COMt for use with QmodemPro you must set up a DEVICE
called TELNET. The name is important since it is used to tell QmodemPro
to dial `phone numbers' that have letters in them without performing
prefix substitutions! After you create the device name, then go to
HARDWARE and assign it to the same unused com port you used when
installing COMt. The baud rate should be set to 57600 or 115200. MD5 is
an encryption specification that allows a host and caller to exchange a
password without actually sending the password. The MD5 secure passwords
option is automatically used any time you connect with a host that is
capable of exchanging MD5 information, if dialed from the phonebook
entry for this site, and your password is entered in the PASSWORD field
of the dialing directory entry. It will be used any time the host sends
the appropriate handshake immediately after connection, regardless of
whether the connection is dial-in or telnet. MD5 operates by having the
host (BBS) send a handshake with a unique string of text immediately
after answering the call. The string of text is received by the caller
and is used as a seed to encrypt the password, which is sent back to the
host system. The host performs the same encryption with the same seed
and compares its result with the result received from the caller. If
they match the caller is not asked for a password.
