Introduction:

Now that that is out of the way I would like to say hello and Thank you for trying AutoRun for Windows. I think you will be pleasently supprised at how easy it will make installing applications in Windows. This program will make launching SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE a single double click away! Once you start AutoRun, there is no further input need from you. Basically, it COMPLETELY removes the need for FILE/RUN and typing A:SETPU or A:INSTALL.

Installation:

It couldn't be much easier. Simply copy AUTORUN.EXE to ANY directory of your choice. Put the QB2VB.DLL in the same directory OR your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, either one. It makes no INI files, scatters NOTHING around your drive, and makes NO changes to ANY Windows INI! What more could one ask? You will need the standard VBRUN300.DLL that is available on most services and BBSs. It is NOT included here. It also dumps NO installation programs around, makes NO program manager windows for you to delete etc. Basically, it just sits there until you do something with it.

Now that you have it on your drive, you need to add it to one of your Program Manager Groups. To do that, simply open the group. Then select FILE then NEW from the menu. Make sure "Program Item" is selected and click OK on the dialog box that appeared.

Now, you need to fill in some real basic information. The Description I will leave to you. The "Command Line" can be filled in by clicking on the BROWSE button or typing in the path where you copied it to and AUTORUN.EXE. Don't leave this entry just yet. You have some options here. AUTORUN will default to looking on A: for SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE. If you want it to look elsewhere (B: for example) you enter it here after the AUTORUN.EXE. For example, if you had installed it into your C:\WINDOWS directory and you wanted it to search B: instead of A: here is what would he in the "Command Line" entry:

C:\WINDOWS\AUTORUN.EXE B:\

You can also specify a CDROM Drive or a directory on your hard drive where you commonly UNZIP things to, or you can point to your RAMDRIVE. There are many possibilities. If for example, you had a working directory on E: drive called ZDIR, and you usually unzipped files there to work on or install you could enter:

C:\WINDOWS\AUTORUN.EXE E:\ZDIR

Ignore the "Working Directory". Click OK and you are done. You may now use F8 or FILE/COPY to make copies of the ICON. Remember ONLY the ICON is copied, there is only ONE copy of AUTORUN.EXE Then edit the "Command Line" on each copy to point to a new location. In my case, I have one for A:, one for B:, one for I: which is my CDROM and one for E:\ZDIR which is my working DIR for a total of 4 ICONS. This gives me the ability to simply double-click on where ever I want to install from.

HOW TO USE IT:

Once you have all your ICONS installed the way you want, simply double-click to run it as you would any other program from program manager. It will instantly start looking for SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE. If it finds EITHER of these, it will run it. If neither is found, you are told so and the program ends. Don't worry about whether a floppy is in the drive or not, it will cause no problems to AUTORUN, short of not finding any files of course! AUTORUN fully protects itself against searching non-existant drives or directories no matter what you put on the "Command Line". If the drive or directory doesn't exist or is unavailable (network, CDROM, floppy etc) it simply reports that it cant find the program and gracefully says goodby.

How To Contact Me:
