When you first start MakeGate you will have to use the arrow keys to move the
cursor down to UUCP and then hit [ENTER], this will bring up this screen.

UUCP Administrator -> Your name as in MakeWild, messages sent to your system
addressed as Root, SysOp or PostMaster will go to this name. You will
probably want this to be you.

Email Conference -> Your Wildcat conference number for E-mail. There should
only be one conference for E-Mail and it should be configured as in
MAKEWILD.TXT.

Bounce Messages -> If a message arrives and the address can't be translated,
wcGate will send a message back to the sender telling them of the problem
if this is set to yes. Setting it to No may speed up mail processing a
little, but at the cost of not informing the sender if there is a problem.

GMT OffSet -> This is the number of hours and minutes your location is offset
from Greenwich Mean Time. You will probably need to consult an atlas or
ask someone at your library what this is. This time is -4 hours on the East
coast and -7 hours on the West coast, but check your local offset just to
be sure.

Organization -> This is a line that will be displayed in the message header
of every outgoing message from your system. You will probably want it to
be your BBS name and maybe your location if there is enough room.

Local Domain Name -> This is your fully qualified domain name that you have
registered. It will take some time after you have filled out the forms for
this to become active, but your UUCP host should give you a temporary one
to use until that time. My temporary address was jamesbbs.uucp until
my domain name became active.

Local Site Name -> Usually the first part of your domain name before the
period. Be sure to ask your UUCP host exactly what your site name is.

News Request Name -> Used if you are providing mail to downlink nodes.
You shouldn't need to mess with this yet.

Secondary Domain Name -> A new feature of wcGate 4.01 which allows you to
specify a second domain name, you may want to use this for your temporary
domain name.

Press [F10] to save this and then move on.

NewsGroup Name -> The full name of the newsgroup. You will have to ask
your host for a list of all newsgroups available to you and you will get
this name from that list. Some hosts have automated systems for requesting
new newsgroups similar to the AREAFIX in FidoNet. My host doesn't have this
and to add a new newsgroup I have to send an E-mail message and request that
my host add them for me. You will need to check with your host on how to
request newsgroups.

Wildcat! Conference -> The conference number of the corresponding Wildcat!
conference that you defined in MakeWild. Refer to MAMEWILD.TXT for
information on configuring the newsgroup conferences.

Distribution -> This is usually "World" which means any newsgroup message
sent from your system will be echoed around the world. You may also specify
limited areas here, but for now you should leave this at "World".

Group Type -> This will be "Normal" in most cases. Later on you may wish to
add other kinds such as mailing lists or moderated newsgroups. You can find
a list of moderated groups in "NEWSGRPS.TXT" which you can get from your
host.

Mailing List Name -> You shouldn't need to mess with this yet so just
leave it blank.

Reply to Address -> address to send mail if the group you are defining is a
mailing list or a moderated newsgroup. You should leave this blank for your
normal newsgroups.

Host Name -> The name that will be used by wcGate from now on to identify
this host. This must be no longer than the length of a legal DOS file name
(no more than 8 characters).

Attach Limit -> This is the maximum file size in KiloBytes for outgoing
file attaches. wcGate uses a utility known as UUENCODE to encode file
attaches and place the file information in the body of the message. wcGate
will only UUENCODE messages that are equal to or smaller than this file size.
There is no limit for the size of incoming file attaches.

Host Domain Name -> The fully qualified domain name of your host system.
Your host will tell you this when you sign up for service.

Host Site Name -> The "Machine Name" of your host. This is usually the
first part of your host's domain name. Again, you will have to ask your host
for exactly what this is.

Delete Files -> This controls whether wcGate deletes incoming mail packets
after it has finished processing them. You will keep this as Yes unless you
plan on further processing the mail packets after wcGate has finished
unpacking and tossing the mail.

Feed Type -> Keep this as provider for now since they are sending you the
mail. You will only need to set this as Downlink Node if you are acting as
a host for another BBS.

Send Non-Local Mail -> Set this to yes for your provider.

Allow News Requests -> Leave this as No for now.

Spool Directory -> This is where wcGate will look for incoming mail to
process from UUCICO. The last directory in the path should be the same as
the name you entered in HostName. This is VERY important!

Satellite Directory -> Directory for wcGate to look for mail packets
received from a satellite service such as Planet Connect.

Work Directory -> Temporary directory wcGate will make when it is
decompressing mail files. This is usually \WILDCAT\GATEWAY\UUCPWORK.

Response Directory -> Just leave this blank for now.

Pressing [F9] from the host edit screen will allow you to translate names as
they come in and out of your system. With translate you can let any user
in the Wildcat! database have any name for their address. You should set
up incoming translations for you for Root, Postmaster and SysOp. You might
also want translations for other things like support and membership issues.
This way someone can address a message to support@jamesbbs.com and you will
receive the message within Wildcat!.

Wildcat Name -> The user's name as it appears in the Wildcat! users database.

External Name -> The name that will be used on the Internet. More on that
in a second.

Action -> You can choose to translate the names that are incoming, outgoing
or both. Outgoing translations will change the user's name from as it
appears in the Wildcat! database to whatever name you specified. In the
above example James Marous in the database would become james when the
messages are exported. The domain name (@jamesbbs.com) is added
automatically. Incoming translations work just the opposite. Names that
match the translation name are changed to the user's name as it appears
in the Wildcat! database. In my example, james@jamesbbs.com would be
translated to James Marous when the message is tossed. Translating both
does both of these things.
