I just made some pear preserves and my husband loves them on biscuits and
muffins. Here's the recipe:

8 lbs. pears, whole
6 lbs. sugar
6 pint jars with bands and lids

Peel and slice the pears into a large pot, discarding peels and cores. Pour
the sugar over and let sit until there is enough juice to cook. Over medium
heat cook until pears are transparent, oh, about an hour and a half, stirring
often. Meanwhile, wash the jars, bands and lids. Sterilize the jars (let sit
in boiling water for 5 minutes). Boil some water in a small pan, then turn
off the heat and drop in the lids. When the pears are done, ladle into the
jars and seal. yum, yum!
