<<Main Menu>>
PURPOSE: To call the four main sections of the Foxy Troxy programs -
Databases, Reports, Price Quotes, and File Utilities.

Some menu selections or features are disabled in Foxy Troxy Lite,
and are only available in other Foxy Troxy programs.

The hypertext file you are now viewing was created for the
Encourager Software program - Foxy Troxy Lite - Version 1.0.

<Hypertext Engine>
                        * Hypertext Engine *

Used in lieu of the more traditional manual on disk documentation.

Advantages - Uses sorted Section and Topic lists to find information
about the program in a much easier fashion. Information can be
scrolled in a window format. Information is stored in a text file
(ascii format) and can easily be updated (even customized by the
end user).

This will eventually replace the current online help system, and be
integrated into Foxy Troxy programs and will not be called as a
separate program.

Mouse support IS available in this program (but is NOT currently
available in FT Lite)

Alt + s - Displays a list of Sections

Alt + t - Displays a list of Topics

The ES Hypertext engine is divided into major sections and within
the sections, topics. Use Page Up, Page Down, up or down arrow to
navigate through the lists. Home key aligns help screen to leftmost
position and End key aligns help screen to rightmost position (if
the topic or section list seems to disappear, press home key).

Highlight a section and press Enter (or highlight a section with a
left mouse click and double click). This is the beginning of the
major section. Page Up and Page down or press Control + t for
a topic list (or single click on Topic button) - some sections do
not have topic lists).

You can page up or page down through the whole section to see
other topics.

The View A File feature on the main screen of the ES Hypertext
Engine is a beta test item. This allows you to view an ascii
file (size 150K or less). The current implementation requires
a mouse to change directories. Also, you cannot change drives.

Software hypertext engine program, not for Foxy Troxy Lite. However,
a future version of FT Lite will include mouse support.

<<Encourager Software Products>
PURPOSE: To explain some of the basic differences between the
various programs.

<Foxy Troxy Lite>
                        * Foxy Troxy Lite *

Foxy Troxy Lite is the first of three programs that will be
released. Both Foxy Troxy Lite and Foxy Troxy will be offered as
shareware, while Foxy Troxy PRO will only be offered commercially.

FT Lite offers the ability to track products, manufacturers,
retailers, distributors with Query By Example searches and database
reports. A comprehensive file utility section is included as well.

Foxy Troxy Lite is available as SHAREWARE - Try before you buy. You
have a LIMITED 30 day license to try the program. After an initial
30 day trial period, you MUST register the program to continue use.

<Foxy Troxy>
                           * Foxy Troxy *

Foxy Troxy extends the features found in FT Lite with a magazine
index list, BBS listings, and Client/Projects database.

Also two more major sections are added to Foxy Troxy.

Reports - This major section is much more flexible than database
reports. Database reports are part of the FT programs and can only
be changed with program updates. Reports here are accomplished by
file definitions that can be easily added when Encourager Software
releases new ones, or users can purchase an optional report writing
program to design their own. Dozens of reports will be released with
the first release of Foxy Troxy and Foxy Troxy PRO.

Price Quotes - Here a list of products can be gathered together and
a total price computed for the list. Very handy when gathering
information for a custom computer system purchase or maybe you're
outfitting a home MIDI (music) studio.

The file utility section is enhanced for Foxy Troxy as well.

File utility tasks such as backup, restore, pack/rebuild and new
file structure become easier because up to 10 files at a time can be
used in sets.

Foxy Troxy is available as SHAREWARE - Try before you buy. You have
a LIMITED 30 day license to try the program. After an initial 30 day
trial period, you MUST register the program to continue use.

<Foxy Troxy PRO>
                         * Foxy Troxy PRO *

Foxy Troxy PRO includes all of the features in Foxy Troxy and then
provides even more power in the file utility section and offers a
major feature - SQL (structured query language). Additionally, it
offers an additional product database (Product1). This data file
does not contain the features fields in order to save hard disk
space while developing entries with minimal information.

Here are just some of the SQL tasks that can be performed within the
Foxy Troxy PRO program. You choose the records to perform SQL
queries.

* Do a MASS Update on a product field (change a MFG name to another)
* Run fast queries and view results with minimal report setup.
* Create a subset of records from a larger data file. ie. Create a
  smaller database of products that have a common category.

For software developers who use Clarion Professional Developer(tm)
2.1, the enhancements provided in the FT PRO file utility section
are the equivalent of Encourager Software program, Delta Tango PRO.

This section saves the parameter settings of the File Utilities -
Filer, Sorter, and Converter in an easy to use Clarion field format
with 40 character descriptions, instead of the drawbacks and
difficulty of maintaining DOS batch files to save parameter
information.

This section can be used with ALL Clarion(tm) data files including
support for Owner ID's and Retain deletion choices. SQL Runtime
support for Cook Database Design's QSQL(tm) as it applies to the FT
PRO program is provided. Optional support is provided for the
unrestricted version of QSQL(tm) as well.

The file utility section in FT Lite and Foxy Troxy ALSO provide
support for Clarion(tm) data files in general, but do NOT include
support for Owner ID's or Retain Deletion for Sorter tasks. Also,
the PRO provides source file location, a debug mode for task
testing, automated conversion of a SQL query into a usable data
file, and many other useful features.

<Delta Tango>
                          * Delta Tango *

The Delta Tango programs (Delta Tango and Delta Tango PRO) were
originally created and marketed mainly to software developers of
Clarion Professional Developer Version 2.1. However, they are useful
tools for anyone working with Clarion data files.

Delta Tango provides:

          Automation for three of Clarion's File Utilities
                   Filer!   Sorter!   Converter!

Delta Tango(tm) is a automated batch file writer for Sorter, Filer,
and Converter that's as easy as filling in filenames, and other
parameters into a Clarion data record, and let IT write the
batch files for you! VERY easy to use!

Some of the tasks that can be accomplished in Delta Tango include:

This can accomplished with one file or up to 10 at a time.

    Backing up data files in a compressed format to the DOS location
    of your choice:

    Restoring compressed files.

    Packing data files and rebuilding key files.

    Create new file structures.

Other useful tasks include:

Join Two Data Files.

Convert Clarion(tm) data files to dBase, DIF, or BASIC (ascii
delimited), or convert from dBase, DIF, or BASIC to Clarion.

Delta Tango is the equivalent of the file utilities section of the
Foxy Troxy program plus one more major feature.

It also provides a shell interface for QSQL(tm), including the
automated conversion of a SQL query to a workable Clarion data file.

Up to 6 User Defined External DOS programs can be called from
within Delta Tango. Also, a DOS prompt is available at most screens
(NOT available in update forms). Calculator and Calendar available
throughout the program.

It does NOT include support for Owner ID's nor does it provide for
Retain Deletion choices in Sorter Tasks.

Delta Tango is available as SHAREWARE - Try before you buy. You have
a LIMITED 30 day license to try the program. After an initial 30 day
trial period, you MUST register the program to continue use.

<Delta Tango PRO>
                        * Delta Tango PRO *

Delta Tango PRO includes all of the features in Delta Tango and the
provides these important additions.

Owner ID support

Retain Deletion choices in Sorter tasks

PRO provides source file location for Filer tasks, a debug mode for
task testing, input and output name fields, and many other useful
features.

It also provides a shell interface for QSQL(tm), including the
automated conversion of a SQL query to a workable Clarion data file
or an ascii file.

Sorter Options section - Define up to 4 physical sorts and join up
to 4 files.

Delta Tango PRO is the equivalent of the file utilities section of
Foxy Troxy PRO.

Up to 6 User Defined External DOS programs can be called from
within Delta Tango. Also, a DOS prompt is available at most screens
(NOT available in update forms). Calculator and Calendar available
throughout the program.

Delta Tango PRO is ONLY available through commercial distribution,
either directly from Encourager Software, or distributors officially
authorized by Encourager Software.

<<Special Hints>>
PURPOSE: Collection of special hints to make running the program a
little easier.

Command Line - To disable the screen blanker, NUM locks, etc. use
these commands.

Convert To dBase - Includes solving date problems

DESQView Support - The program is DESQView aware.

DOS Prompts - Choice of two DOS prompts.

Error Screens - Common error screens

Files Created By Program - Files created by Foxy Troxy Lite and
Color Program.

Files In DOS Path - Create or update a set of Foxy Troxy Lite files
in other subdirectories.

Key Files - Rebuild Key files when necessary.

Line Drawing - Used to enhance reports.

Temporary Files - Files created while in DOS.

<COLOR.DAT>
                           * COLOR.DAT *

Use the COLOR.DAT file provided for color monitors or modify it by
using the Set Color program (can be called from within the File
Utility section - if you do this, you must exit the FT Lite program
and reenter to see changes).

If you are using a monochrome monitor and the List (table)
selections do not show a highlight, delete the COLOR.DAT file in the
current subdirectory. However, save the COLOR.DAT originally
supplied with the program for work with color monitors as a standard
reference.

The program will create a default COLOR.DAT that should show List
highlighting on a monochrome monitor. Menu selection highlighting
will possibly not show on a monochrome monitor, but you still can
use a number or letter to choose a selection.

<Foxy Troxy Program .EXE Description>
              * Foxy Troxy Program .EXE Description *

FOXTL.EXE - Main Foxy Troxy Lite program file

SETEC.EXE - Set Color program - Used to modify COLOR.DAT

ESHLP.EXE - Used for Encourager Software Hypertext help.

CFIL.EXE - File Utility program used for New File Structure tasks

CSRT.EXE - File Utility program used for Backup, Restore and Join
            Two Files tasks.

CCVT.EXE - File Utility program used for converting FT Lite data
            files to dBase, DIF, and BASIC (ascii delimited), and
            from dBase, DIF, and BASIC to FT Lite data files

RRUN.EXE - Report runtime program used in Foxy Troxy/PRO programs
            to run reports created with file definitions.

Each of these programs have a .HLP (help) file associated with it as
well except SETEC.EXE.

<Command Line>
                          * Command Line *

When you start Foxy Troxy Lite either from the DOS prompt, or from a
menu, use the following command line prompts if necessary.

FOXTL B=NO - Disables Error Beep.

FOXTL /C - Disables Control Break

FOXTL V=0 - Disables screen blanking

FOXTL V=X - Screen blanks out after X minutes.

Default is 10. ie. FT V=5 Screen blanks out after 5 minutes.

FOXTL /L - Disables keyboard locks. Use if having a problem with
              Number locks.

FOXTL /E - Specifies that the system keyboard is an enhanced
              keyboard.

However, no enhanced keys such as F11 are used presently.

<Convert to dBase and Date Problems>
               * Convert to dBase and Date Problems *

This generally applies to any user of Clarion data files.

Make a copy of your data file, and work with it in another
subdirectory.

Create a new file definition (*) that does not have a PRE()
attribute and define the Dates as STRING(@D1) (as in modified source
below). Next run CFIL (New File Structure task) to convert the data
file to a new temporary file.

For FT Lite users, a new file definition is already created for you
for the product and combination database files - use the file,
FTLTODB.CLA.

Then run CCVT to convert the data file to dBase. However, to
properly sort on the date fields with the newly created .DBF file in
a dBase program, you must use a dBase utility to modify the data
type of the date fields from character to date.

<DOS Prompts>
                          * DOS Prompts *

A choice of two DOS Prompts are given at the Main Menu.

F5 - This choice saves your current directory information and
restores it upon reentering FT Lite. So if you change directories
while at the DOS prompt, or even with another program while shelled
to DOS, Foxy Troxy Lite is returned to the original directory before
you shelled to DOS. Available throughout most of the program.

F6 - This choice allows you to shell to DOS, change directories, and
when you return to Foxy Troxy Lite, it will be at the last viewed
directory while in DOS. This gives a little more flexibility in case
you want to start some new work in a different directory than when
you shelled to DOS. Read NOTE also.

NOTE: Unless you change to another directory with a full set of FT
Lite files, read the topic, 'Data in Other Subdirectories' first.

<Data in Other Subdirectories>
                  * Data in Other Subdirectories *

There are a lot of good reasons you may want to set up a second
subdirectory, and have different data files. This would include
another Edition of the data files, working on entries for the
Foxy Troxy Club, etc.

But, you need to keep one set of the following program files in a
subdirectory in your DOS path.

FOXTL.EXE  CSRT.EXE  CFIL.EXE  CCVT.EXE  RRUN.EXE ESHLP.EXE
FOXTL.HLP  CSRT.HLP  CFIL.HLP  CCVT.HLP  RRUN.HLP SETEC.EXE

If you want to start with just the essential files for another
subdirectory, copy NEWMUSIC.EXE or NEWPC.EXE or NEWGEN.EXE to a
empty subdirectory. These are self extracting files (type 'newmusic'
or 'newpc' at the DOS prompt). When unpacked, they will contain
product and combination data files, and have the necessary
records for File Utilities, etc.

NEWMUSIC.EXE contains product category records for the Professional
Music Edition, and NEWPC.EXE contains product category records for
the IBM/Clone Computer Edition. NEWGEN.EXE does not contain any
product category records.

An easy way to do this is start the FT Lite program, press F6 at the
Main Menu, using DOS copy commands or your favorite small DOS shell
program such as Directory Freedom by Gordon Haff, copy one of the
new???.exe files to an empty subdirectory. Since the file is
self-extracting, type the name at the DOS prompt.

You can copy files you have customized from your current
subdirectory to the new one such as: COLOR.DAT, ESCTRL.DAT

Type 'exit' at the DOS prompt of the new subdirectory to return to
FT Lite.

<Desqview Support>
                        * Desqview Support *

Foxy Troxy Lite automatically detects and supports the Desqview
environment.

The "Video time-out" and "beep" features are disabled automatically.

Two command line switches are available at the DOS prompt for
starting Foxy Troxy under Desqview.

FOXTL L=YES
(will force keyboard locks)

FOXTL B=YES
(will force beeps)

<ERROR - Invalid Record Declaration>
               * ERROR - Invalid Record Declaration *

Probably one of the most common errors you'll eventually encounter
is when you try to use a data file that is not structured for the
current Foxy Troxy program you are running. It WILL halt the program
and drop you to DOS. Restart program and do the following:

At the File Utilities Menu, select New File Structure for the data
file that gave you the problem. The data file will now be converted
to work with your current Foxy Troxy program.

The file FOXTL.CLA MUST be in the current subdirectory.

<Operating Under OS/2>
                      * Operating Under OS/2 *

Foxy Troxy Lite is DESQView aware and runs ok with the utility
OS2SPEED. However, the Encourager Software Hypertext Engine -
ESHLP.EXE - is NOT DESQView aware and OS2SPEED should not be used.

If you plan to run ES Hypertext from within FT Lite, use a separate
autoexec.bat in your DOS session settings and do not load OS2SPEED.

NOTE: If you do not run OS2SPEED, (or any other utility that makes
the DESQView aware feature available to OS/2), the screen blanking
feature of FT Lite is enabled (this is turned off when running FT
Lite and OS2SPEED). By default, the FT Lite program screen blanks
after 10 minutes. This may catch you by surprise if running FT Lite
in a window in the background, you switch to it, and the screen is
blank. Press the space bar once. Or you can disable the screen
blanker regardless of whether OS2SPEED like utilities are running or
not by using the optional parameters in the program page of the
object (icon) settings. Set optional parameters to V=0. Or if
running from a batch file, use the following: FOXTL V=0

FT Lite runs fine in either DOS Full screen or DOS window, however
ES Hypertext Must be run in DOS Full screen unless you ensure the
ESHLP.INI containing the following information is in the same
subdirectory as the ESHLP.HLP and ESHLP.TXT files.

ESHLP.INI is an ascii file and contains the following two lines.

CLAGRAPH=ALLTEXT
CLASMOOTH=OFF

So if you plan to run FT Lite in a window and run ES Hypertext from
within FT Lite, be sure the .ini file is in the proper subdirectory.

NOTE: It is recommended at this time, you use the ESHLP.INI file
regardless of what type of window you use for FT Lite or Hypertext.
You might experience some video difficulties if you don't use it.

And by using it, you can use OS/2 procedures to toggle between a DOS
full screen and a DOS window.

Under OS/2, when using the Hypertext program's, 'view a file
feature', the 25/50 line feature does not work in a DOS window, but
will work properly using a DOS full screen.

<Operating Under Windows 3.1>
                  * Operating Under Windows 3.1 *

FT Lite runs fine in either Full screen or window, however ES
Hypertext (ESHLP.EXE) must be run in Full screen unless you ensure
the ESHLP.INI containing the following information is in the same
subdirectory as the ESHLP.HLP and ESHLP.TXT files.

ESHLP.INI is an ascii file and contains the following two lines.

CLAGRAPH=ALLTEXT
CLASMOOTH=OFF

So if you plan to run FT Lite in a window and run ES Hypertext
(ESHLP.EXE) from within FT Lite, be sure the .ini file is in the
proper subdirectory.

Also, use the FOXTL.PIF file (and modify according to your needs) to
run FT Lite.

<PRODUCT File not found! Do you want to create it?>
       * PRODUCT File not found! Do you want to create it? *

This will give you a STOP error with a NO CREATE ATTRIBUTE warning.

The following files can only be created with a File Utility - New
File Structure task:

PRODUCT.DAT  LOOKUP.DAT  MFGBASE.DAT

Some files like FUTILS.DAT (File Utility task) can be created when
you see a similar prompt.

Three self extracting files contain all the necessary files to start
work in a subdirectory with data files for product and combination
lists.

Two of them, NEWMUSIC.EXE for Professional Music Edition and
NEWPC.EXE for IBM/Clone Computer Edition provide minimally product
category data files for the special editions. NEWGEN.EXE creates all
the necessary files, but doesn't include product category data
files.

PRODUCTA.DAT (Used for Product category reference and Product number
reference) can only be created if the file PRODAUPD.CLA is in the
current subdirectory.

COLOR.DAT - Use SETEC.EXE program to define colors (called from File
Utility section).

<Rebuilding Key Files>
                      * Rebuilding Key Files *

There are occasions when the Key files may get corrupt. These files
help sort your database alphabetically or numerically. However,
there is a VERY easy solution to this problem.

Using a New File Structure task, or a Pack/Rebuild Task, you can
rebuild or create Key files.

Remember to do frequent backups of all your data files.

<Report Line Drawings>
                      * Report Line Drawings *

Most reports contain line drawings (boxes) to make sections of the
report easier to read.

However, this requires your printer to be able to print an extended
character set.

IBM(R) printers have this extended character set by default and do
not need adjustments.

You will need to check your printer manual for instructions to set
the extended character set or if possible to emulate an IBM printer.

<Temporary Files>
                        * Temporary Files *

During certain operations of the FT Lite program, it creates
temporary files on the hard disk, and then after the operation is
finished, the files are deleted.

By default, these temporary files will be written to the current
directory. Using a DOS SET command can direct the files to a
specific DOS location. Using a RAM disk for the temporary files will
speed up the operation, and help keep your hard disk from becoming
fragmented.

Use these DOS SET commands before entering the FT Lite program. A
good place to keep your SET commands is in your autoexec.bat file.

ie.      SET CLATMP=E:\
         SET LPM_SWAP=E:\LPM_SWAP

E is the name of the RAM drive in this example,
substitute yours.

It is recommended your RAM drive be at least 512K in size.

An LPM_SWAP file is created each time you start the FT Lite program.
It is approximately 72K bytes in size. An example name would be
lpm_swap.$01. The extension of the name will change.

Any time you shell to a DOS prompt (F5) or call an external DOS
program within FT Lite, another temporary file is created. This is
approximately 386K bytes in size. An example name would be
$T6747.TMP. The extension will always be .TMP.

It's possible under an environment like Windows or operating system
like OS/2 to run FT Lite in multiple directories at the same time.

It is recommended that if you use the preceding example of the SET
commands and RAM drive, you allow approximately 512K of RAM space
for each session of FT Lite.

Also, if for some reason, FT Lite does not get to do it's
housekeeping chores such as delete the temporary files, you may have
to manually delete the temporary files.

By default, these will be in the directory from which you called FT
Lite, unless you use the SET command to place them in a different
directory. If you direct them to a RAM disk, and reboot your
computer, the files are automatically deleted.

WARNING: DO NOT erase the *.TMP file while shelled to a DOS prompt
from a active FT lite session. Guaranteed to cause you problems,
possibly a hung computer!

<<User Setup>>
PURPOSE: Used to contain vital information for various parts of the
program such as DOS commands for calling up to 6 external programs
from a menu while running FT Lite.

<User Setup Update Form>
                     * User Setup Update Form *

NOTE: Some fields are only usable in other FT* programs

Type in your name plus address information and/or alternate name and
information. This information is used in reports.* One example is a
report that resembles a letter to a manufacturer. You can use this
report to request additional information about a product.

User Name / DOS command - These fields are used to start external
DOS programs within FT Lite. Refer to the External topic. User
name is a user assigned name for the External Program menu (File
Utilities). DOS command contains DOS program name + parameters.

The state Sales Tax can be used in the Price Quote section.*

Printer Name - Refer to Printer topic.
Edition - Reference for the current subdirectory of FT Lite files.
This appears on the Main Menu screen.

(F3) - This form can only be accessed from the Main Menu, when there
       are NO menus pulled down. Use the Function Key F3 to access
       it.

<Edition>
                            * Edition *

Edition refers to a collection of FT Lite files contained in one
subdirectory and related in some fashion to each other.

The Professional Music edition would refer to product and
Combination (MFG, Retailer,) records that emphasize music products,
dealers, music equipment manufacturers.

The IBM/Clone Computer Edition would refer to product files and
Combination (MFG, Retailer,) records that emphasize IBM/Clone
computers, software, hardware, etc.

If you create your own Edition, or modify Encourager Software
Editions, you can change the Edition field display (opening screen -
main menu) by pressing F3 for the User Setup Form.

<External User Defined Programs>
                 * External User Defined Programs *

You can define 6 External DOS programs.

These external programs must be in the DOS path, be in the current
subdirectory, or you need to change to the working directory of the
program by using a batch file.

On the User Setup Form, fill in the User Name field with the program
name or description of the program. At the DOS command field, type
in the program name executable name - without the .exe or .com
extension or batch file (??????.bat) name if the program is not in
the DOS path. You have additional space to use command line
parameters as well.

For example: You call Buerg's ascii file viewer. It is in the DOS
path.

User Name          DOS Command
List Viewer list *.txt *.doc *.bat

Two examples of calling the Encourager Software Hypertext Engine.

First is calling ESHLP.EXE from the current subdirectory (default
setting as shipped), and second is using a batch file.

User Name          DOS Command
ES Hypertext       eshlp

ESHLP.EXE, ESHLP.TXT, and ESHLP.HLP must all reside in the current
subdirectory in this example.

2nd Example:

NOTE: If you use multiple subdirectories to store FT Lite data
files, and want to refer to ES Hypertext help from any FT Lite
directory, you need to create a DOS batch file using the following
example.

User Name          DOS Command
ES Hypertext       esh.bat

The DOS batch file might look like the following:

@echo off
C:
cd\docs
eshlp

ESHLP.EXE in this example might be in the C:\util subdirectory
(IF C:\util is located in the DOS path), but ESHLP.TXT and ESHLP.HLP
files must reside in the C:\docs subdirectory. You could also place
ESHLP.EXE in the C:\docs subdirectory.

The ESHLP.INI file is included for those that want to run ES
Hypertext program in a DOS window (under a Full DOS window, it is
not needed), in Microsoft Windows or IBM's OS/2. It can be deleted
if running strictly under DOS.

NOTE: When these programs are called from inside the Foxy Troxy Lite
program, they will have approximately 8K less of RAM available.

<Printer For Database Reports - User Setup Form>
         * Printer For Database Reports - User Setup Form *

This refers to the printer setup for database reports.

Only LPT1, LPT2, LPT3 printer ports are supported (if using a serial
printer, refer to your DOS or printer manual for appropriate printer
substitution commands).

Printer LPT1 is the default printer name designation. If you want to
use LPT2 or LPT3 (Parallel ports 2 or 3), complete the following:

At the Printer Name field in the User Setup form, erase (control +
end key combination) the printer name and press Enter.

A Printer list will appear. Press the INSERT key. Type in the name
of your choice at printer name. Press Enter. At the Port choice,
choose LPT2 or LPT3 and press enter. None of the other choices
currently apply.

Press F10 and at the Printers List, highlight your new selection and
press Enter. This will fill in the Printer name on the User Setup
form with your new choice. Press F10 to save the User Setup form.

NOTE: At the printer list, to modify a selection, press Control +
Enter.

numbering at 1000. Records cannot be numbered below 1000.

<Product List By Description/Prod#>
               * Product List By Description/Prod# *

This is a list of all the products in either numerical or
alphabetical order. The order is the only difference.

At this list you can add, modify, delete, and copy products. If you
copy a product, you must assign it a new product number, since
product numbers cannot be duplicated.

Query By Example allows you to selectively filter the list. Press
Control + s. (QBE)

Selected Records/TOTAL - After a QBE, these numbers appear for your
reference.

<Query By Example (Control + s)>

With the results, you can either edit the records found or filter
the list. Press F10 when you have entered the query, and a 'What do
you want to do' screen appears. If you choose Edit, it goes to the
first match, and lets you edit or esc to the next one. If you edit
the record, you are returned to the list to start again. A graph
will appear while it selects the records.

If you choose Select, it will filter the list, and tag the records
(this tagging is not seen, but is used in database reports). If you
leave the list after a QBE, and return to it, a 'Clear previous
search results' screen will appear. Select NO if you want the
filtered list to appear.

Upd ProductA (Control + F3) - This allows one to update a small
reference database helpful in numbering. Tables for this appear in
the update form.

<ProductA Update>
                        * ProductA Update *

This is used to help make creating new product numbers easier.
PRODUCTA.DAT is a subset of the main product data file. Running this
task (press Control + F3) from the Product List By Description or
PROD# screen updates PRODUCTA.DAT.

Then while adding new product records, or copying product records
and reassigning a new number, you have two reference lookup lists to
refer to.

Product Category Reference - Press F3 at any time while in the
product update form. List of current product categories with
starting number for the category. Also, a user entry starting number
for a particular category is provided as well.

Product Number Reference - Press F5 at any time while in the product

<Product Lookup Lists>
                      * Product Lookup Lists *

MFG Short Name - In order for a name to show on this list, a
Combination record must be added first. The MFG field must be filled
in and the Mcode field must be filled in with 'MFG'.

Retailer Source List - In order for a name to show on this list, a
Combination record must be added first. The name field is used for
the list, and the Mcode field must be filled in with 'BUY'.

Product Category Reference (F3) - Product Number Reference (F5) Used
to help users catalog new products with the FT Lite numbering
system. These lists must be updated from the Product List using
Control + F3 for Upd ProductA task.

The Product numbering system is used for a variety of reasons. In
the Product List By Product#, a category of products can be viewed
in sequence. Also, a category subcode is derived from numbering and
is used in the main Reports section (not available in FT Lite). This
makes it easier to filter products by category.

<Assigning Product Numbers Help>
                 * Assigning Product Numbers Help *

In order to not conflict with future additional records from
Encourager Software for a major Edition, assign Product numbers
using the following rules.

Assign numbers starting at 250 or at 750.

ie. In the product category, Computer Hardware - Other, the numbers
start at 8000, products from Encourager Software would be numbered
as follows: 8001, 8002, etc.

A User assigned number for this category should be as follows: 8250,
8251, etc.

ie. In the product category, Computers - Other, the numbers start
at 10500, products from Foxy Troxy would be numbered as follows:
10501, 10502, etc. A User assigned number for this category should
be as follows: 10751, 10752

<<Reference Menu>>
PURPOSE: Various lookup lists are maintained in this section.

Reference Menu - It is a menu selection for lookup lists. Disabled
menu selections are only available in Foxy Troxy/PRO programs.

Specialty List - The specialty lookup field is used on the
Combination (MFG, Retailer) update form. Refers to a particular line
of equipment or specialization.

Computer Type List - Used in product update form.

State Abbreviation List - View only list of standard Postal
abbreviations and cannot be edited.

FT Club Names - View only list of those who have contributed Product
and Combination records and cannot be edited.

<FT Club>
                            * FT Club *

Here's a chance for some instant 'fame'. Product and Combination
(MFG, Retailer, etc) records that are contributed by users and
accepted by Encourager Software will get credit in the
FT Club field.

Additional databases and Main section reports will be maintained in
the Foxy Troxy and Foxy Troxy PRO programs, so additional credits
can be gained with those programs as well.

Foxy Troxy Lite and Foxy Troxy will be distributed as shareware. You
have 30 days to decide if the program meets your needs, and then you
must send in a registration fee to continue using it. Foxy Troxy PRO
will ONLY be available either from Encourager Software directly or
through authorized commercial distributors/retailers.

However, data files may be FREELY exchanged. Those sent to
Encourager Software for official releases (after approval) will be
posted to major BBSs/online services.

<Rules for FT Club>
                       * Rules for FT Club *

Encourager Software reserves the right to use any or all submissions
without promise of any compensation.

Please also submit up to a 20 character FT Club name that can be
used on individual update forms and an extended name and/or location
(up to 40 characters) for the reference menu, FT Club name.
Encourager Software reserves the right to reject any FT Club names
that would not be generally considered in good taste.

Very important! Do NOT use '"' (double quotes) in product or
combination records. This is a delimiter used in the SQL conversion
program (SQL queries to FT Lite data files).

Any submissions for product or combination records should contain
easily verifiable information - also as detailed as possible - fill
in at least 3 or 4 lines of features in product update forms.

Additional information about combination records would be helpful
too. This could include operating hours for retailers, overview of
product line for manufacturers, etc.

<<Database Reports>>
PURPOSE: To print either all the records of a certain database or
selectively print those chosen in a Query By Example task.

Here you can choose to print all the records of a particular
database or print selectively after running a Query By Example task.

Query By example tasks are run on database lists such as product
list or combination list. If you have run a QBE and the list is
filtered, you can print selectively those records found in the
query.

Each report contains only selected fields from each record.

1. After first selecting report, a 'Print only tagged records?' If
you want to print all the records of a database, press 'n' for no.
If you have run a Query by Example task in a database, records will
be tagged (tags are not shown), press 'y' for yes.

2. Next prompt will allow you to send report to Screen, printer or
disk.

3. At the bottom of screen, you will see a running report graph.
This is preparing the records to be printed.

4. After the graph has finished, the report will begin to print.

<<Reports>>
PURPOSE: Reports in this section are defined with file definitions
so the end user can easily add more reports as they become
available.

<Reports - ONLY Available in Foxy Troxy or Foxy Troxy PRO>
    * Reports - ONLY Available in Foxy Troxy or Foxy Troxy PRO *

The Report Menu section is MUCH more flexible than Database reports
because more reports can be added (either supplied by Encourager
Software, or those who have bought the OPTIONAL report writing
program.

Reports can be sent to printer, disk file or screen. Online
instructions for each report are included for those supplied by
Encourager Software.

There will be a variety of reports that can be run from this
section. Users can also request, in writing, new reports, although
Encourager Software will only develop new reports that are generally
needed by a majority of Foxy Troxy/PRO users.

There is even a report that will write a letter format for you,
include product names, and the address of the company, and your
mailing address.

Database reports are 'hard-coded' into the program and can only
change when the program is updated. Reports in this section are
created with definition files that are easily added to the program.

<<Price Quotes>>
PURPOSE: This section allows you to create an invoice or list of
product items with totals.

<Price Quotes - ONLY Available in Foxy Troxy or Foxy Troxy PRO>
 * Price Quotes - ONLY Available in Foxy Troxy or Foxy Troxy PRO *

For example. You may want to price a computer system with options
you select from various vendors, or you're trying to outfit a small
home MIDI (music) studio.

Gather the information in product records first. Sales tax can be
entered at the Price Quote screen, or in the user setup form at the
Main Menu.

The invoice can be printed to screen, printer, or a disk file. A
SEND Report and Report Names List similar to the Report Menu section
will appear when F7 is pressed to Print Invoice.

Actually any of the Report Menu section reports are available at
this point, but the instructions here are customized for printing
invoices.

<<File Utilities - Task Section>>
PURPOSE: From this menu, you can carry out useful file utility tasks
such as:

Backups - Compress a data file and send it to another DOS location.

Restore - Restore a compressed data file to the current directory.

Pack/Rebuild - Pack a file - After many deletions in a data file,
this will eliminate the deleted records and make the dat file
smaller. Rebuild - Rebuilds Key files or creates new ones. Key files
are used to make lists appear in alphabetical or numerical order.

Join Two Files - This allows one to add additional records such as
product records to the current product list.

Convert - Convert FT Lite data files to dBase, DIF, or BASIC (ascii
delimited) format. Also, conversion from dBase, DIF, or BASIC is
possible also.

Run the File Utility programs - Filer, Sorter, and Converter from a
menu selection in a manual mode.

Start up to 6 User Defined external programs from a menu.

Run the User Set Color program to redefine screen colors.

Record Maintenance - Add or change present file utilities
configurations.

<Single Files - Backup/Restore/Pack/NFS Menu>
          * Single Files - Backup/Restore/Pack/NFS Menu *

This menu applies to four tasks that have a common record
maintenance update form.

Backup - Send a single data file such as product.dat to a DOS
location and compress it.

Restore - Restore a single data file from a DOS location and
uncompress it.

Pack/Rebuild - Pack means to eliminate the deleted records in a data
file. Rebuild is to rebuild or create new key files for a particular
data file.

NFS - New File Structure - When a FT Lite program is updated, if the
file structure format of a data file changes, this task must be run.
Run a NFS task on PRODUCT after restarting the program if you see
this error.

                  Program Halt
Clarion Version 2.1 Release 218A
D:\FT\PRODUCT.DAT
ERROR CODE:47 INVALID RECORD DECLARATION

<Backup Single File List>
                    * Backup Single File List *

Highlight the selection and press F7. A list of backup locations in
which to send the compressed data file will be shown. Highlight the
location desired and press Enter.

The file will be renamed to filename.cbk ie. product.dat is backed
up and compressed to the name product.cbk in the subdirectory
location you chose.

When files are backed up, they are compressed as well. Therefore,
they need to be restored before becoming usable. You can send them
to floppy disks or hard disk, but the program doesn't know if you
have enough available space, so you'll need to make an estimate.
Compressed data files are roughly 1/3 to 1/5 their normal size.
NOTE: If your floppy disk or hard disk does not have enough space,
it might create a partial file, but you will get an error screen.
The partial file will not be usable. You must delete it and free up
space for a complete backup.

<Backup/Restore Locations List>
                 * Backup/Restore Locations List *

Highlight the selection and press Enter.

You can add locations by choosing Record Maintenance at the File
Utilities Menu, then #3 - Locations.

Backup Location procedure -

The file will be renamed to filename.cbk ie. product.dat is backed
up and compressed to the name product.cbk in the subdirectory
location you chose.

Restore Location procedure -

The file you are restoring is being uncompressed and restored to
Foxy Troxy subdirectory. It will overwrite any data file with the
same name. ie. product2.cbk will be uncompressed and restored as
product.dat. Be sure product2.dat does not exist already.

<Restore Single Files List>
                   * Restore Single Files List *

Highlight the selection and press F7. Then you are presented with a
list of restore locations where a backed up file resides. Highlight
the location you want to restore from and press Enter.

The filename you are restoring is being uncompressed and restored to
the Foxy Troxy subdirectory. It will overwrite any data file with
the same name. ie. product2.cbk will be uncompressed and restored as
product2.dat. Be sure product2.dat does not exist in the current
subdirectory.

<Pack/Rebuild Single List>
                    * Pack/Rebuild Single List *

Highlight the selection and press Enter.

When you delete records in the database, your data file starts to
fill in the deleted record space when new records are added.
However, if you delete a lot of records at one time, you can regain
the space much more quickly (and make the data file smaller) by
packing the data file.

This task also rebuilds the key files for the data file as well.

<New File Structure List>
                    * New File Structure List *

From time to time, you will update your program, and your data files
will need to be updated to work with the new program features. New
File Structure allows you to update quickly and easily.

Highlight a record and press F7. The data file will be restructured.

At this time, the configuration in the Record Maintenance is already
done for you, and does not need to be changed. You will be sent new
.exe files and new .cla files to add to the Foxy Troxy subdirectory.
Then by highlighting records for each data file and pressing F7, you
are updating the data files to use with the new program.

<Additional (File Utilities) Tasks>
               * Additional (File Utilities) Tasks *

This menu supports the Join Two Files and Convert Tasks. The Sorter
Options task is supported with the Foxy Troxy PRO program.

Join Two Files are used to add additional records to the product or
Combination databases.

Convert is used to convert FT Lite data files to dBase, DIF, or
BASIC (ascii delimited).

Also, conversions from dBase, DIF, or BASIC to FT Lite data files is
available as well.

<Join Two Files List>
                      * Join Two Files List *

Highlight description and press F7.

The joining of two files allows you to easily add more product
records to your database. Also, add more to the Combination list
(MFG, Retailer, etc.) as well.

When you get additional records to add to your database, they will
be in a data file such as prod2.cbk.

If the data files are uncompressed, you can simply use a 'Join Two
Files' task to join them. If they have been compressed using the
backup task, and have a DOS file extension of *.cbk, such as
'prod2.cbk', you will need to use a 'Restore' task and a 'Join Two
Files' task.

NOTE: You do not have to be concerned about key files if they are
missing, the program will automatically rebuild them.

<Converter List>
                         * Converter List *

Highlight the file description and press F7.

Your file will be converted. If you convert from another file format
to a FT Lite data file, you will also need to run a New File
Structure task to properly match the file header your Foxy Troxy
application is expecting.

<Set Colors>
                           * Set Colors *

To set colors, choose at the Main Menu, File Utilities, and press
"4" for Set Colors.

"Loading" will be seen below the selection.

To change color setting, highlight a screen type from the list given
and press Enter. You are shown a color palette selection. Cursor to
the Right or Left, and press Enter for selection.

Note: Don't choose a color that hides other screen information. When
you have made all your changes, press "F10" to save. If you decide
not to save your changes, press "F2" to exit without saving changes.
You will be returned to the Foxy Troxy program. However, your
changes will not take effect until you exit the program to DOS, and
then reenter the Foxy Troxy program.

<SQL Options>
                          * SQL Options *

These choices are disabled because they are only available in the
Foxy Troxy PRO program.

1. The SQL Runtime is included with the PRO program. Current key
works with product data files. Future keys will include more FT data
files.

2. The SQL program works with all Clarion(tm) data files, not just
those supported by the special key file in Foxy Troxy PRO. A
separate license must be bought from the author, Cook Database
Design.

3. The ES SQL program is included with the PRO program and is used
to develop SQL queries.

<External User Defined Programs>
                 * External User Defined Programs *

You have manual access to:

Filer - Used in New File Structures

Sorter - Used in Pack Files/Rebuild Keys

Converter - Convert FT Lite data files to dBase, BASIC, DIF

In addition, you can define 6 External DOS programs to be called
from this menu. These are defined in the User SETUP form.

These external programs must be in the DOS path, or you need to
change to the working directory of the program by using a batch
file.

NOTE: When these programs are called from inside the Foxy Troxy Lite
program, they will have approximately 8K less of RAM available.

<Generic Use of File Utilities with Clarion(tm) data files>
   * Generic Use of File Utilities with Clarion(tm) data files *

While the File Utility section was specifically designed for use
with the Foxy Troxy Programs, it was also generically designed to
work with Clarion(tm) data files as well.

The FT Lite program does NOT support Owner ID's and Retain Deletion
choices for Sorter Tasks (Backup, Restore, Join Two Files). The Foxy
Troxy PRO program does support both.

The Foxy Troxy program will include additional support for multiple
files (up to 10 at a time) for the Backup, Restore, Pack/Rebuild,
and New File Structure tasks.

The Foxy Troxy PRO program additionally includes support for SQL
tasks (working with selected FT data files) - Optional SQL support
for Clarion data files in general, and custom Sorter File Utility
operations. Plus a number of other enhancements as well.

<<File Utilities - Task Section - ERROR Codes>>
PURPOSE: To pinpoint the error which led to a Task Failure.

<Task Failure>
                          * Task Failure *

Task failure can happen for a number of reasons. Incorrect
parameters such as filename, path name, incorrect label, source

                     * No Errors - Exceptions *

Sometimes when a field on the update form is not filled in, it will
NOT create an error, but may give you a unexpected result.

Generally, Foxy Troxy Lite follows the same rules as using the File
Utilities manually. However, there are exceptions. Below are
exceptions and reminders of how the utilities would handle an empty
parameter.

Join Two Files - No Merged Filename
 Takes name of the primary filename

Converter List - No Source Filename
 *.tmp takes name of the output file/Used ONLY when converting to
 FT Lite data files.

<<File Utilities - Record Maintenance>>
PURPOSE: Update forms can be added here

<Record Maintenance Menu>
                    * Record Maintenance Menu *

From this menu, you can select the various update forms for FT Lite
File Utility tasks.

You must complete an update form first, before you can perform a
task in the File Utilities section.

Single Files include Backup, Restore, Pack/Rebuild, and New File
Structure. You store information in a single update form for all
four tasks.

Location is used in the Backup and Restore tasks.

Join 2 files allow you to join another data file with your current
data file to increase your record totals. ie. You want to add more
product records. So you join product.dat with a file called
prod2.dat.

Convert to dBase, DIF and BASIC (ascii) is possible.

<Record Maintenance - List Operations>
                   * Record Maintenance - List Operations *

At each of the list screens, you can perform the following Update
Form (Record) operations.

 Symbol   Corresponding Key    Operation

escape without saving changes, or press 'c' for cancel.

<BK/RS/PK/NFS - Single File Update Form - RM>
          * BK/RS/PK/NFS - Single File Update Form - RM *

Description - Describe the data file you are using.

Filename to Backup/etc. - These are the data files. Type in the DOS
filename - up to eight letters - these are entered as all CAPS - do
not add the .DAT extension.

Source Filename - Source Files are provided with the same name of
the main program .EXE such as foxtl.cla. These files will have the
same date as the main .EXE. When the program is updated and the data
file format has changed, a new file structure task must be run. The
foxtl.cla file must be in the each subdirectory where Foxy Troxy
Lite data files are located. Type in foxtl in this field.

Label - Type in the same name as the data file. ie. product.dat is
typed in as product.

NOTE: The initial sample data files include all information
completed for you.

Source Filename and Label are used for Filer tasks, such as New File
Structure.

All Sorter Tasks (Backup, Restore, Join Two Files) by default, do
NOT Retain Deletions. This is not a concern for those who use the
Foxy Troxy programs, but might be for those who wish to use FT Lite
file utility section on other Clarion(tm) data files. The PRO
program offers a choice to retain deletions or remove them during a
sorter task.

This single update form is used for the following tasks:
  Backup
  Restore
  Pack/Rebuild
  New File Structure.

<Backup/Restore Locations List - RM>
               * Backup/Restore Locations List - RM *

When you backup or restore a file, fill in an update form first with
the DOS path location of your choice.

You can add as many locations as you want, however, they must be
valid DOS locations. Both Backup and Restore use the same location
list you define.

During the task part, this happens:

The backup operation compresses the data file and assigns the data
file a DOS file extension of .CBK. It is then sent to the DOS path
location you define in this update form.

The restore process uncompresses the data file from another DOS
location to the current subdirectory. Care must be taken you don't
overwrite a data file with the same name as the one you want to
restore.

The same Location List (task section) is used for both backups and
restores.

<Backup/Restore Locations Update Form - RM>
           * Backup/Restore Locations Update Form - RM *

Enter a valid DOS pathname at the Location field.

You can define any number of locations, as long as they are valid
DOS pathnames. Keep in mind, you CANNOT restore a data file if it
has not been backed up to that location (or placed there by you)

Files that are to restored have been compressed using the backup
method in the File Utilities task section, and have an DOS file
extension of '.CBK'. You can also restore a data file that has not
been compressed (this would be equivalent to moving the data file
from another directory to the current directory and rebuilding the
key files), but the program must still see a data file with an
extension of .CBK. ie. product3.dat must be renamed to product3.cbk
before restoring.

Keep in mind while restoring, any data file in the current
subdirectory with the same filename of the one you are restoring
will be overwritten, no questions asked!

<Join Two Files - Update Form - RM>
               * Join Two Files - Update Form - RM *

Description - Describe your files, tasks, etc.

Primary Data Filename - This is the first data file you want to
appear in the merged data file.

Secondary Data Filename - 2nd data file to join.

Merged Data Filename - Name of new file you are creating. However,
you can join a file to itself. In that case, all three data
filenames would be the same.

Order is IMPORTANT - In Record number order, the primary data
records will appear first, then the secondary data records in the
new merged data file.

By default, this task does NOT retain deletions. The PRO program
offers a choice for general Clarion data file users. All Foxy Troxy
programs do not retain deletions by default.

<Join Two Files Example - RM>
                  * Join Two Files Example - RM *

Example: Add prod2.cbk to product.dat

This file has been compressed. You must use a File Restore and a
Join Two Files task.

Place the file prod2.cbk in the current subdirectory.

Create the following two records and then run the tasks.
Ŀ
          Single File                   Join Two Files

 Source Filename    Label          Secondary
  FOXTL              product        PROD2
                                   Merged
                                    PRODUCT

You may need to create a backup/restore location for the current
subdirectory as well.

<Convert Files - Update Form - RM>

$ - Optional to name source filename. Only used for conversion to
Clarion.

No output type is needed for conversion to Clarion.

BASIC to Clarion - String Delimiter (") Double Quotes
Field Separator (,) Comma OR you must use manual utils (Converter).

<File Utility Extensions - RM>
                  * File Utility Extensions - RM *

Foxy Troxy Lite uses most of the default extensions of the file
utilities: Sorter, Filer, and Converter.

.CLA - Source Files (file definitions)
.DAT - Data Files
.BAS - BASIC (ascii delimited) files for conversion to BASIC.
.DBF - dBase files
.DIF - DIF files
.TMP - Source file created during certain Converter tasks.

An exception to a default extension is the backup and restoration
tasks. Foxy Troxy Lite assigns an extension of .CBK to files that
have been compressed. And it expects to see a .CBK extension in
order to restore as well.

<ERROR Code>
* ERROR Code *

Task failure in the file utility section can happen for a number of
reasons. Incorrect parameters such as filename, path name, incorrect
label, source filename, etc. However, the sample set of data files
supplied with FT Lite does contain the correct information to carry
out the tasks. User entered information such as backup/restore
locations, not enough hard disk or floppy drive space to backup the
data files, etc. might cause errors.

If you encounter an ERROR code screen while using the Task section
of File Utilities, Press F1 for Help for hints on errors.

<Error Screens>
* Error Screens *

When a program error occurs that may possibly shut down the program
and send you back to your DOS prompt (or your own menu program for
the computer), these screens give information to help you understand
the problem that occurred at the time. Check special hints and the
ERROR help in the File Utilities task section for remedies.

<External User Defined Programs>

* Pack *

When you delete files in a data file, the space allocated for that
deleted record may or may not be reused depending upon the Reclaim
Space Option choice under File Options in Designer (or appropriate

<Report Line Drawings>
* Report Line Drawings *

Most reports contain line drawings (boxes) to make sections of the
report easier to read. However, this requires your printer to be
able to print an extended character set. IBM(R) printers have this
extended character set by default and do not need adjustments.

You will need to check your printer manual for instructions to set
the extended character set or if possible to emulate an IBM(R)
printer.
