Instructions for altering the DIALER application for non-Hayes modems.
========================================================================
07/10/87

MISOSYS has provided patches for some modems supplied by Radio Shack.
Since they do not necessarily have all of the features of Hayes modems,
certain functions described in the DIALER documentation may not apply
to your modem. These limitations will be discussed here.

The general procedure to modify DIALER is by invoking the command,

     DO DIALER

The procedure requires the availability of WAM0/APL on a drive which is
not write protected; about 3K of free space on drive 0 which is also not
write protected; access to the PRO-WAM utility, WAMLIB; and access to the
system's PATCH command.

The procedure will extract the DIALER/APP application from the WAM0/APL
library file, prompt you for the alteration designation (1 for DC-2212,
2 for Modem 4P, and 3 for Modem II). The DIALER/APP file will then be
patched with the appropriate FIX file; the old DIALER library module
will be replaced by the patched copy; and the patched copy will be
removed.

If you want to restore the DIALER library module to its unpatched form,
invoke the command,

     DO DIALER (YANK)

This will also ask you to enter the modem alteration designation; however,
the patch will be removed.

Autodialing with the Radio Shack Modem DC-2212
----------------------------------------------

Since the DC-2212 modem defaults to auto-originate on powerup, there is no
need to utilize an "@" macro for conditioning, however, since you may have
the modem in some other mode, it's recommended that you set the "@" macro to

     C

The "T" switch is global, thus, to specify "tone" dialing, add "T" to
the "@" macro. "F" is optional for "fast" dialing.

If you respond to the "<H> to hangup" message with an <H>, it will cause
DIALER to drop DTR for about 1 second. This should cause the modem to
disconnect. It is useful for purposes of telephone communications to
prematurely disconnect the modem (i.e. before its timeout) after you
have picked up the telephone.

Autodialing with the internal 4P modem
--------------------------------------

For the internal 4P modem, the recommended "@" macro is,

     C**M

"F" is optional for "fast" dialing. To specify "tone" dialing, set the "O"
macro to "T" and prefix each telephone number with the letter "O".

Autodialing with the Radio Shack Modem II
-----------------------------------------

Set the Modem II front panel switches to originate and auto and make
sure that the *CL device is set for WORD=8, PARITY=N, STOP=1.

The "@-MACRO" prefix should be

     C

The dialing string cannot contain any special characters. For TONE
dialing, prefix each dialing string with "T".

Caution: Wait for the TR light after invoking DIALER before CALLing.

Note: The Modem II is very primitive for autodialing purposes. There is
virtually no way to program the modem to disconnect; thus, entering an
<H> in response to the "<H> to hangup message will not cause the modem to
disconnect. You can momentarily switch the modem's power off to cause it
to disconnect from the line or wait for it to time out due to no carrier.
