The TAS Terminal Emulating System is a package that allows the TRS-80 Model 4 to emulate a variety of asychronous terminals. The TES databae contains over 100 different terminal configurations.

To configure a specific terminal, invoke TESED. Search the database until the desired terminal is found. SAVE this terminal. Press <CLEAR> H for help. To install this terminal, exit to DOS and invoke the TESDO/TESKI filters. See TESDO/JCL and TESKI/JCL.

In addition to TESDO and TESKI, other filters are available to customize and enhance a terminal configuration. Consult their JCL files for installation.

A couple of points worth mentioning:

     1) TES is NOT a communication package. It is designed to work with most communication packages available for the Model 4.

     2) All filters in the TES package are attached either to the display output (*DO) or keyboard input (*KI) devices. Any communication package must, therefore, adhere to these devices. LAZYCOM, for instance, will not work because it communicates directly with video RAM.

     3) Remember to remove any write protect tab from your disk. Failure to do so could result in an 'Unprintable error message'.

     4) The more options within a configured terminal, the slower the display output, and the slower the keyboard input will become.

     5) The more filters installed on the display output and keyboard input devices, the slower throughput will become. If speed becomes prohibitive, consider purchasing an 8-MHZ CPU speed-up kit.

     6) Two programs from the TAS Help 6.2 package have been included. DSP and MOK. DSP will display one character, specified in decimal ASCII. Use it to turn on/off the invisible and print filters. MOK will reclaim memory from memory module. For examples, see JCL files.
