This has the effect of producing a special carrier tone which some computers recognize as a BREAK signal. The A: option will return immediately to the Menu so you may hold down the (A) key for as many times as you need to send the desired series of BREAKs. Press (ANY) key B: Buffer Toggle This option will either OPEN or CLOSE the buffer depending on the last state it was in. Once the buffer is OPENed all incoming data will be sent to the video AND memory. You may OPEN and CLOSE the buffer repeatedly WITHOUT destroying any of its contents. The amount of space available in the buffer along with the amount of bytes used is displayed at the bottom of the menu. Press (ANY) key C: Convert Buffer This option will convert the ASCII contents of the buffer into its binary equivalent. You will then be able to save the buffer to disk as a /CMD file. This option is meant to be used on machine language programs which have previously been converted to /BTA (ascii) files. Do NOT use this option to convert BASIC or TEXT files! It is recommended that you save the buffer to disk prior to converting. Press (ANY) key D: Display Buffer This option allows you to display the buffer in either ASCII or Hexadecimal format. ASC format will display the buffer like an ordinary text file. Hex format will present 256 bytes of the buffer with the ASC equivalent on the left hand side. Press (M) to modify the Hex buffer. The Hex format is useful if you wish to change a single byte or two prior to transmission or saving the buffer. Use ALL four arrow keys to scroll the Hex display. Press (ANY) key E: Echo/Feedback Select (E)cho or (F)eedback will be presented to you. Echo will cause any characters typed to be sent to the video as well as the RS232. This is useful if the computer you are talking to does not send back the data it receives. Feedback will cause any data received to be sent back out the RS232. This will allow someone talking to you to see the characters they have typed! Press (ANY) key F: Save file This option allows you to save the contents of the buffer to disk in EXACTLY the same format that it is stored in the buffer. If the buffer is empty then this option returns immediately to the Menu. You may abort this (and any) option by pressing the BREAK key. Press (ANY) key G: Load file This option will allow you to APPEND the contents of a disk file with the present contents of the buffer. If you wish to start out with an empty buffer then you may select the Z: option from the Menu. Press (ANY) key H: Conversion tables LTERM uses three tables to convert data prior to sending or receiving it. You may change any byte in the (I)ncoming, (O)utgoing, or (P)rinter tables. Double *'s indicate which bytes have been changed. ALL bytes from 80H to FFH have been changed to their ASC equivalents (-80H) to standardize these tables with most computers. Press (ANY) key I: Compare Buffer This option allows you to compare the data in the buffer with the incoming data sent to the screen. Most bulletin boards send back any UPLOADED data to you for verification. Option I: will automatically check this data with the buffer and inform you if there is an error. This option is intended primarily for /BTA type of files that consist of ASCII lines. Text material is not accurately checked since all spaces and carriage returns are ignored. Press (ANY) key J: Help System This help system was designed as an aid to users of LTERM. I hope it provides sufficient information to allow you to use LTERM to it's fullest potential. Use the help system whenever you have any questions about one of the menu options. These strings are automatically sent when LTERM receives a 05 byte or when you use the L: option. You can activate any string from 1 to 5 from the K: option or by using a up arrow Logon # up arrow in any of the Macro-strings,(Option N). All five strings are stored to disk with the U: option. Press (ANY) key L: Logon Output This option sends the ACTIVATED logon string out the RS232 and returns to terminal mode. Any incoming data while you were in the menu will be lost. A short delay occurs after the string is sent to account for various types of bulletin boards. Any /'s seen in the string will be converted to 13's (carriage return). Press (ANY) key M: Reset RS232 You may change the RS232 parameters at any time with this option. Answer the prompts as they occur. The RS232 will be re-initialized before returning to the menu. The most common settings are; 300 Baud 300 Baud 8 bit word 7 bit word 1 stop bit 2 stop bits No parity Even parity Press (ANY) key N: Define Macrokeys LTERM allows up to 10 macro-strings which can be sent out the RS232 by pressing the CLEAR key PLUS a number from 0 to 9. Use a / to indicate a C/R. Macro-keys can be used to store phone numbers for auto-dial modems such as the Hayes. Use a up arrow Logon # up arrow to activate a different Logon string (ex. [1[ ) to activate logon #1. Use an apostrophe to indicate any remarks. Lterm will ignore everything after the '. Press (ANY) key O: Output Buffer This option allows you to send the contents of the buffer out the RS232 port. You are asked for the number of nulls between characters and the number of nulls after a carriage return. When outputting to a system with Xon/Xoff you should answer the Wait for Prompt? question with No and the number of nulls after a C/R doesn't matter. The more nulls the slower the output. You can abort the output with BREAK. Press (ANY) key P: Printer Options Print the buffer or any incoming data. The On-line toggle will cause any incoming data to be sent to a parallel printer as well as the screen. There is no spooling of data so slower printers may cause the loss of data to both the video and the printer. You may specify the # of characters per line and the # of lines per page in the S: Soft Configure section. You may reenter LTERM with the buffer intact by using the command; (Note: This command is primarily designed to save the buffer from accidental reboots, etc.) LTERM * <CR> Press (ANY) key R: Direct File Transfer This is one of the latest options added to Lterm. You can use this option to send or receive data directly as it appears on the disk. This type of transfer is much faster than the regular ASCII transfer. Lterm's DFT is compatable with the XMODEM type of transfer so be sure you are receiving or sending to the correct type of program on the other end of the line. XMODEM transfer uses 128 byte blocks instead of the 256 bytes used by other direct file transfer programs. Press (ANY) key S: Soft Configure This option allows you to configure LTERM to various Operating systems even if they do not use the standard addresses! In most cases (NEWDOS, DOSPLUS, MULTIDOS) you won't have to change any of these addresses. The two you will probably use the most are the Printer characters per line and the Lines per page. These values are all saved to disk in the LTERM data files (options U: and V:). Press (ANY) key T: Type into Buffer Compile text messages will you are in LTERM! The # of bytes used is displayed in the upper right-hand corner so you always know when you are at your limit. Most bulletin boards accept messages in 1024 byte blocks. Press BREAK to abort. Any carriage returns will not be displayed however they will be sent out so be sure you use a space on an empty line before starting a new paragraph. If data is in the buffer and you find that the cursor is at the top of the screen instead of the bottom then press (ENTER) once and then (BREAK). All information in the converision tables, RS232 settings, soft configure values, logon strings, and macrokeys are stored on the data file. Press (ANY) key Y: Execute DOS cmd This option allows you to perform various DOS functions without leaving Lterm. *WARNING* Lterm uses part of the DOS command area from 5200H to 6FFFH so don't use any commands which will use this area (COPY,FORMAT,etc). Sorry Multidos and Trsdos users, you cannot use this option since these DOSes use the same CMD memory as Lterm. Press BREAK once you are finished with the command. This option was designed mainly for checking the space on the disk prior to saving the buffer. Press (ANY) key Z: Zero Buffer This option will clear the entire contents of the buffer and return to the menu. Most of the buffer will still be intact however Lterm's pointers will all be reset. Be careful when selecting this option!
