I would like to take this time to thank everyone who is
responsible for this fine electronic magazine. I'm a newcomer
to the world of BBS's, but I've been working with the Model III
& Model 4 for a long time. I hope that the people who use this
magazine don't take it for granted. You don't know how happy I
was to find a BBS dedicated to the preservation of an
endangered species...TRS-80 computers! I hereby publicly give
thanks to all who deserve it, including the many people who are
writing shareware for our computers. Please do the same
yourself. If they don't know we're out here, they may quit
writing!

I would also like to share some information with readers that
they may or may not know about. Although I'm a registered
owner of LS-DOS 6.3 and I wasn't notified of the update, there
now exists a NEW version of our operating system! It is LS-DOS
6.3.1, from MISOSYS, Inc. I program a Model 4 for a local
music store that I work at, and when I recently spoke to
MISOSYS about ordering a hard disk driver program, I was
informed of the new update.

It includes date support from January 1, 1980 through December
31, 2011. It also has an updated "MEMORY" command which
displays the status of switchable memory banks known to the
DOS, as well as a map of modules resident in I/O driver system
memory and high memory. The TED text editor now has commands
to print the entire text buffer, or the contents of the first
block encountered. You may also obtain directories from TED!
The "SPOOL" command now permits the BANK parameter entry to
range from 0-30 instead of 0-7. You may alter the logical
record length of a file with "RESET filespec (LRL=n)". There
is more information in the flyer I received, but it seems like
a good deal for the $15 plus $2 S&H that they are asking for
it. LS-DOS 6.3.1 has no anti-piracy protection, but you must
already own LS-DOS 6.3.0. You may contact MISOSYS at the
following address:

MISOSYS, Inc.
P.O. Box 239
Sterling, VA 22170-0239
(703) 450-4181

They also have several nice hardware and software buys that I
didn't know were still available including DOUBLEDUTY, PRO-WAM,
XLR8er Memory Expansion, and much, much more. Call 'em up!

In closing, I would like to mention that I'm working on several
music-oriented programs for the Model 4. These include a Chord
Dictionary program which identifies a chord's name by the
individual notes that you type in. It also allows you to add
new chords to the data base. I am also toying with the idea of
making the Model 4 compatible with MIDI (Musical Instrument
Digital Interface). If anyone is interested in any of this, or
you have any suggestions, please contact me on this BBS or the
address listed below. I guess what I'm really asking is, "IS
ANYONE EVEN INTERESTED???" I can make the CHORD program more
user friendly and distribute it almost immediately. I just
wondered if anyone had a use for this type of program. Of
course, ha-ha, I'll send it anyway! The program(s) will be sent
here as they are completed.

Long live the TRS-80 and have a nice day. Thank you.
