(1) b. "Becky Sharp" (1935), Rouben Mamoulian's adaption of Thackeray's"Vanity Fair" used the new "3 colour" system. Three b&w negatives wereexposed at the same time in the one camera through red, green and bluefilters. Printing matrices were made from the 3 negatives and a compositecolour print was produced by successive printings. This system althoughgiving excellent results was very expensive and colour films were theexception until "tri-pak" colour negative film for use in conventionalcameras was introduced in the 1950's. It is notable that new prints madefrom original b&w Technicolor separation negatives are as brilliant as thefirst prints made half a century ago, while prints from more recent"tri-pak" colour negatives often pale in comparison. "Trail of the LonesomePine" (1936) was the first Technicolor film shot on location.

(5) 9 times. Now if you dispute that you'll just have to watch this greatfilm again and count for yourself.

(6) d. The "Louisa" is sunk when it hits the submerged wreck of the "AfricanQueen" and detonates one of improvised torpedoes still protruding from it.

(7) "Forbidden Planet" is based on the plot of Shakespeare's, "TheTempest". The crew of a space ship land on a strange planet inhabited onlyby a scientist and his beautiful daughter who has never seen another humanbeing. The scientist has a wonderful robot (Robby) with fantastic powers todo his bidding. In the "Tempest" the magician, Prospero commands a wonderfulspirit who can cast "a girdle 'round the earth". By now you should havefigured that Robby is not based on the the mischievous spirit in "AMidsummer Night's Dream", the jealous plotter in "Othelo" or the comicknight in the "Henry" series of plays.

(8) If this designation still exists in this time of non sexualdifferentiation of job roles then the "Best Boy" usually assists the"Gaffer". Now that clears that up for you non filmmaker readers of "In thePicture", doesn't it?

(9) They both wrote the scripts for films starring W.C. Fields, or ratherFields used these two pseudonyms when writing his own scripts. Jeeves wrote"The Bank Dick" and Criblecoblis, "Never Give A Sucker An Even Break".
