     BLOCK MENU
^Block is one or more lines of text, continuous from begin to end. Mark the
begin or end of a block (the order doesn't matter). A temporary
marker covers the character/space marked. Move the cursor to other
extreme of block with the cursor keys and ^Word, ^Quick, ^Go, or
^E (reverse word). Then make your choice from the BLOCK menu below,
          or press <ESC> to cancel.
<C>opy make this selection, then move the cursor to the point you want the
copy to appear; press <CR>. (Only the cursor keys function.)
<D>elete deletes the block, you are asked to confirm this.
<F>ill type a character/space to fill entire block.
<L>ow-case/<U>p-case transforms all letters in block to lower (upper) case.
<M>ove copies block in a new position and removes the original. Position
the cursor where you want the block to appear, press <CR>.
<S>ave saves block as a file on disk; the original text is unaffected). To
save: type the name, press <CR>. If the file is on disk, write over
          it, or ^Append the block.
<T>ransfer copies block from/to the Main and Alternate documents. Position
cursor to insert block. Original block is unchanged.

     VERTICAL MENU
^Vertical This option works with RECTANGLES (as narrow as one column or as
"short" as one line). A rectangle may be marked with any diagonally-
opposite corners, but the UPPER LEFT is used to move. Markers
temporarily cover corners. Use cursor keys and ^G, ^W, ^E, ^Q to
position the cursor to the other corner, and to <C>opy <X>change.
Choose one of the following options, or <ESC> to cancel.

<C>opy Position the cursor on the UPPER-LEFT corner rectangle where copy is
to appear, press <CR>. Nothing happens if there is too little room
          to copy the area.
<D>elete deletes the area from the text. Anything to the right moves left to
          fill the deleted space.
<X>change exchanges the marked rectangle with a second area of equal size.
Mark first area, move the cursor to the UPPER-LEFT corner of the area
          to be exchanged, press <CR>.
<F>ill Type a character/space to fill area. TO PREVENT WORD-WRAP where you
have columns or precise text format, mark the RIGHT-HAND COLUMN to
          ^Fill, type <CR>.

     EDIT MENU
<E>dit on Main Menu is used for text commands. Cancel with <ESC>.
<W>idth of text can be from 2 to 127. If wider than screen, display will
scroll horizontally. The current width is displayed; type the new
width and <CR>. NOTE: it is wise to SAVE text before changing width
if the document is nearly full.
<F>ind search for a "string" of characters/blanks in the text AFTER the
cursor position. Type the string to be found, press <CR>; the cursor
moves to the first occurence. If <F>ind used previously the current
string is displayed; press <ESC> to keep that string. Use "^F" to
find the string repeatedly; if string doesn't appear in the text, the
          cursor does not move.
<R>eplace the <F>ind string with another. Type the <R>eplace string, press
<CR> (or <ESC> to keep the current string). Use the sequence "^F ^R"
to find and change a string throughout the text. Or use...
<A>utomatic F/R changes all occurences of the <F>ind string to the <R>eplace
string from the cursor position to the end of the text. Both strings
are displayed, and you must confirm this choice. NOTE: be careful
using this powerful feature; it is easy to make mistakes!

     EDIT MENU continued
<H>arden places a paragraph marker on every line of the entire document
preventing further word-wrap. Use to prevent unintended changes to
          finished text, tables, etc.
<O>ptimize removes unneeded blanks by moving all paragraph markers as far
left as possible. This is done automatically when saving.
<T>ab-line lets you save/select TAB lines with specific stops for tables,
          etc.  TAB lines must be prepared in the <U>ser Document (see below);
Follow the user macro format with "." for the tab stops. The special
line chosen replaces the current tab line.

     USER DOCUMENT
<U>ser on Main Menu switches to/from User Document (always returns to
Main Document). This stores printer settings, "macro" phrases and
special features. <S>ave the file with new macros or other changes.
PRINTING Print settings (and all User Doc. features) must follow standard
macro format \xx=yy\ (see next Help page). There are six print
settings you can change in the User Document each time you print.
The standard values for each setting are in parentheses.
NOTE: "RIGHT" Margin is not set. Program prints lines EXACTLY as wide
as they appear on the screen. Select <W>idth on the <E>dit Menu to
adjust width of screen display to print at different widths.
\LM= LEFT MARGIN on paper in printing. (10)
\TM= TOP MARGIN is number of blank lines before printing starts (6).
\PA= PRINTED AREA is number of lines that are covered by printing. (54)
\PL= PAGE LENGTH is number of lines per page. (66)
\LS= LINE SPACING for single-spaced printing, double-spaced, etc.
          (1=single-spaced is standard).
\ST= STOP at each page and wait to continue, or continuous printing.
(0=continuous printing is standard; 1=stop at each page). ..cnt'd

MACROS You can define a "macro" which tells the computer to find and type a
& longer phrase stored in memory. Macros can use any characters except
FORMAT "\" and "^", and must follow a standard format: begin with the "\"
followed by the phrase you will type followed by "=", then the
extended phrase, and "\" again to end. A character following "^" is
interpreted as a control character: ^M is the same as <CR>, so "^M"
in a macro expression has the effect of <CR>. This lets you store
lines in the macro without using those lines in memory; for example:

USE There are two ways to invoke the macro feature:

<0>-<9> can be used to equal a longer phrase (format above). <ESC> followed
by "1", "2", etc., prints the phrase.
\key= Create your own key strings equal to a longer one with the format
above: "\key= \". Press <ESC> </>, and type in the key string,
then press <CR> to print the extended phrase.
<T>ab-line is a macro feature. Save special tab lines for tables, etc. Use
the \key=___._._\ format; select <T>ab from the <E>dit menu.

POST-BY-PHONE is ready to communicate when the blinking cursor appears in
the lower corner. When you first press <ESC> the initial menu appears--WHAT YOU
TYPE WILL NOT BE TRANSMITTED WHILE A MENU IS VISIBLE. Press <ESC> to clear the
menu. From the first menu your selections include:
  <?> to turn on/off the <L>og, <P>rinter
<D>isk to send a disk file; <M> or <A> to send a message processing text
  <Q>uit to the telecommunications section
</> to type the name of a macro, or <0> - <9> for a fast macro
  <V>ideo to turn scroll-pauses on/off.
<T>ype for direct access to message processing.
<X>tra for more communications menus, including:
     <U>art to set the <B>aud rate, Uart <P>rotocols, <D>elays
<F>low to select <D>uplex, <E>cho, line feed filters

There are some "invisible" ones; for example, press <ESC> then "B" to send
a communications break.

ELECTRONIC MAIL: Sending Files--Possible Problems & Delay

Any host (national networks or a Bulletin Board) may be overworked at some
times. And local phone access across the country in a national network does
vary. You won't notice this if you type on-line or receive information, but
you may notice it when you SEND FILES or TEXT. If the transmission is garbled,
you may need to slow things down with post-by-phone's DELAY.

Normally the DELAY is set to "0", but you can increase it to 255. To boost the
delay, press <ESC> then <X>tra, then <U>art. Here is the <D>elay option,
normally set <D>elay=000. Press "D" then type a number for the delay AND PRESS
<CR>. Often "001" will be adequate, but you may need to go higher, especially
for bulletin boards. Now press <ESC> twice to clear the menus. The higher
DELAY is set; try the transmission again.

Some hosts may not echo characters fast enough. This may produce slightly
garbled display, especially with local commentary such as "transfer done".
These are purely visual problems that do not impact the appearance of the text
you send.

     TELENET, TYMNET, UNINET LOG-ON PROCEDURES

Please note that these procedures may change at any time.

Dial local number (may vary for modem speed), wait for modem tone or "connect"
then see below to get to host. Enter password, ID, etc. required by host.
NOTE: post-by-phone "MACROs" let you do all this automatically!

     UNINET:
1. Touch <CR>, type '.', then touch <CR>.
2. Type name of host; e.g. 'NET' for NewsNet, or 'DEPHI', followed by <CR>
     TYMNET:
1. Touch 'A'.
2. Type name of host; e.g. 'NET' for NewsNet, or 'DEPHI', followed by <CR>
TELENET: Cust. Serv. 800/336-0437. In Virginia: 800/572-0408
1. Touch <CR>, three times, slowly.
2. Type number of host, 'C 21566' for NewsNet; 'C 30147' for Source, then <CR>

DESIGN YOUR OWN HELP FILES to form on-line documentation. All you need is to
create a series of text files that follow these simple rules:
1. Every line should end with a carriage return
2. All "pages" (what you see displayed) should have an equal number of lines.
3. End every page with `<CR> or with ASCII page feed (ctrl L)

At the end of each page, the <ESC> key returns to the program; any other key
will display the next page. Create "special pages" by starting it with two
special characters (that do not display). The first character is a period (.)
and the second one is a 1, a 2 or a 3. Here is what they mean:

.1 This is a "table of contents" page. Type a number and post-by-phone will
jump over appropriate number of pages to display the proper page number.
     This page is number 0.
.2 You can type a file name, and post-by-phone will switch to a new help file
     with that name.
.3 Combination of .1 and .2
