Special instructions for creating SYSTEM disks:

Due to a change made in LDOS version 5.1.5 allowing up to 254
files on a data disk (ie, no reserved directory entries for the
system files), the procedure for creating a system disk is a
little different. Follow this procedure when creating system
disks from other LDOS 5.1.5 system disks:

(We will assume the new system disk will be created on drive 1)

(1) Format the destination disk.
(2) BACKUP SYS0/SYS:0 :1
(3) BACKUP SYS6/SYS:0 :1
(4) BACKUP SYS7/SYS:0 :1
(5) BACKUP SYS$$/SYS:0 :1 (NEW)
(6) BACKUP $:0 :1 (NEW)

For those using the SOLE utility, here's the procedure to
create a double density system disk from another double
density system disk:

(1) Format the destination disk.
(2) SOLE1 :1
(3) BACKUP SYS0/SYS:0 :1
(4) BACKUP SYS6/SYS:0 :1
(5) BACKUP SYS7/SYS:0 :1
(6) BACKUP SYS$$/SYS:0 :1 (NEW)
(7) BACKUP $:0 :1 (NEW)
(8) MEMORY (HIGH=X'71FF')
(9) SOLE2 :1

For those who have LDOS 5.1.4 & SOLE and wish to create a
double density system disk using mixed drives (such as a DS 40
and a DS 80 for example):

(1) Insert LDOS master disk in drive 0.
(2) Insert blank disk #1 in drive 1.
(3) Boot system, answer date with 12/31/87.
(4) Execute either PDUBL or RDUBL (RDUBL if its a Radio Shack
double density adapter, PDUBL for all others).
(5) Format drive 1 for double density.
(6) BACKUP SYS0/SYS:0 :1
(7) BACKUP SYS$$/SYS:0 :1 (NEW)
(8) BACKUP $:0 :1 (NEW)
(9) Execute DEVICE command.
(10) Execute SYSTEM (SYSTEM=1) command.
(11) Insert LDOSXTRA disk in physical drive 0.
(12) BACKUP $:1 :0 (NEW)
(13) Insert SOLE disk in physical drive 0.
(14) BACKUP $:1 :0 (NEW)
(15) Insert blank disk #2 in physical drive 0.
(16) FORMAT drive 1 for double density. (Remember this is
physical drive 0!) This will become your bootable system
     disk.
(17) SOLE :1
(18) BACKUP SYS0/SYS:0 :1
(19) BACKUP SYS6/SYS:0 :1
(20) BACKUP SYS7/SYS:0 :1
(21) BACKUP SYS$$/SYS:0 :1 (NEW)
(22) BACKUP $:0 :1 (NEW)
(23) Execute DEVICE command.
(24) Execute SYSTEM (SYSTEM=1) command.
(25) Execute SYSTEM (SYSGEN) command, to save double density
     driver code to disk.
(26) MEMORY (HIGH=X'71FF')
(27) SOLE2 :0
(28) Re-boot system.
(29) Place data disk containing patch files for 5.1.5 update in
     drive 1.
(30) Execute DO MAKE515 (drive=0). Sit back and wait until it
asks you to re-boot, press ENTER when instructed to do so.
(31) Re-enter date (it will ask for it again, this time enter
the correct date, NOT 12/31/87). You will see it display
version number as 5.1.5, not 5.1.4.
(32) Use TIME command to set time (TIME hh:mm:ss).
(33) COPY CONFIG/SYS.CCC:0 to CONFIG/BAK.CCC:0.
(If you make any mistakes with the SYSGEN command after
this point, you can re-boot holding down the <C> key to
load the backup copy of the configuration.)
(34) Execute SYSTEM (TIME) to have it prompt in the future.
(35) Execute SYSTEM (UPDATE) to activate update code to update
the date at end of each month.
(36) Execute LEAPYEAR to fix some incorrect code in UPDATE,
this correction is regarding accounting for leap years.
(37) Execute SYSTEM (SYSGEN) to save this code to disk.
(38) Configure all other options you may wish.
(39) Execute SYSTEM (SYSGEN).
(40) All done, disk in physical drive 0 is your new system
disk (disk #2). You may re-use disk #1 or save it for
     making additional system disks.
