                     SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTATION
                        ARCHIVE4/CMD V4.0.0
Copyrighted 1986 By Charles B. Harper

This text is intented to be supplemental documentation for ARCHIVE4/CMD
V3.3.1. It covers ONLY the improvements provide in V4.0.0 and is not
intented as complete documentation for this program.

RUNNING FILES (BAS, CMD, and JCL):
Starting with V4.0.0 running BAS, CMD, and JCL files that are included in your
ACH files will be allowed. A new command key (F3) has been added to the
command line of your ACH file directory for this purpose. When F3 is pressed,
use the arrow keys to select a file to run. HOW THIS FEATURE WORKS: When a
file is selected, ARCHIVE4 will search your system for a file called ARCH/FIL.
If it is not found it will be created on drive 1. You may then receive a
prompt. If you selected a /BAS file, you are prompted for the type of BASIC
you will be using; BASIC, BASICG, or GBASIC. If you selected a /CMD file, you
will be prompted for parameters. Type them in or press ENTER. There is no
prompt for /JCL files. The selected file is then restored to ARCH/FIL and run
by the appropiate means. After running the file, you are always returned to
the system. ARCHIVE4 will not allow selection of any file not having one of
the three extensions mentioned. It also makes the assumption that the file
extension is correct. For example trying to run a /BAS file that is not a
BASIC program will return an error after which you will be returned to the DOS.
Additionally, if another file is required by the program you are running, and
it is in the ACH file, it must be restored first. I have found this feature
useful with my floppy system, but slow. What I have done to increase the speed
is change the default drive when ARCH4/FIL is created to my memdisk. If you
have the extra memory and wish to make this change, the following patch is
needed.

PATCH ARCHIVE4/CMD (D34,10=XX:F34,10=31)

XX will be the drive you wish to use. 30=d0, 32=d2, 33=d3, etc.

DISKNAME on printout: The printout of your ACH directories will now include
the name of the disk which the file was found on. This should help users with
floppy systems, like myself, to organize your library a little better.
Remember to name your disk with so type of unique name. Not DATADISK.

THE OLD EXTRA BYTE: As you may have noticed, when you restored files that had
been compressed during archiving, they were 1 byte longer. This little problem
has been correct with this version, but ONLY for newly archived files. All
files previously archived will still have the extra byte. Once restored and
rearchived (updated) any future restoration will be the original size.

Once again, starting with V4.0.0, ARCHIVE4 is being removed from public domain.
That means that ONLY registered owners, of the program, will be entitled to
updates or support for any future version. Addtionally, all future versions
will be distributed with serial number. The number will be displayed in the
under left of your screen when the main menu is displayed. A word of warning,
DONOT attempt to change or alter this number in anyway.

Thank you once again for your support.

P.S. I have included on this disk an ACH file contain all the files need to
installed and use Steve Milliken's, extended command interperter, SHELL/CMD
This is V1.9 of Steve's super program. I think you will find it quite useful
with ARCHIVE4 in working with the ACH library. It also make operation of the
DOS a joy to behold. I encourage you to try this fine software and to support
Steve in his efforts.
