EZMUSIC ------- Ezmusic is a graphics and sound program written for the PC and close compatibles. It allows editing single voice musical pieces on a graphically generated staff. Music can be entered directly from sheet music without time consuming calculations. Since the monotone square wave from the PC's programmable timer chip can get boring, seven other voices are available. No bit map graphics are used, so a monochrome monitor can be used for display. When you run the program a menu will appear with options to load, save, play, and edit a tune. To load or save a tune, just press l or s and enter the name of the file. If no error message is displayed, the file was loaded or saved successfully. An error message will appear if the file could not be opened or was not in ezmusic format. Pressing p will play the current tune. The notes will scroll to the left on the staff and are heard as they pass through the bright part of the screen. Note that the staff does not have any timing information (time signature, bar lines, etc.), but is still very similar to sheet music. Pressing any key will cancel play. To edit a tune press e. The first few notes will be displayed on the staff. The left and right arrow keys move one note left or right. If you move right past the end of the song, a note will be appended. Home takes you to the beginning of the piece and End takes you to the end. The up and down arrows change pitch of the note accordingly. Accidentals are specified using + or = for sharp and _ or - for flat. Page up and page down change the duration of the note from whole to thirty-second notes. For dotted notes hit the period key. The r key switches between notes and rests. Number keys 1 though 8 select different voices which can be changed within a piece. Notes can be made to blend together by pressing t. This takes out the delay between notes and is used for tied or slurred notes. If you wish to hear notes as you edit them the s key toggles sound. Ins inserts a note to the left. Del deletes the current note. There is a line of information displayed at the bottom of the screen. SND: displays whether the editing sound option is on(1) or off(0). OCT: is followed by the octave number of the current note (0-7). SLR: tells if slur/tie toggle is on(1) or off(0). VCE: is followed by the voice number currently activated. NAME: displays the name of the tune being edited. To exit the editing session press x. Now you can play the tune or save it if you wish. Here is a list of the editing commands: Left arrow .........move left Right arrow ........move right Home ...............goto start of piece End ................goto end of piece Up arrow ...........increment pitch Down arrow .........decrement pitch + or = .............toggle sharp _ or - .............toggle flat Page Up ............increment note duration Page Down ..........decrement note duration . ..................toggle dotted note r ..................toggle rest/note 1-8 ................voices 1-8 t ..................toggle tie/slur s ..................toggle sound Ins ................insert note to left Del ................delete note x ..................exit editor NOTE: This program accesses sound hardware and screen memory directly.
