Font Filenames
**************

The chart below shows the font filenames for the TrueType(TM)
fonts in the STAR TREK(R): THE NEXT GENERATION(TM) Font Pack.
Each installed TrueType font is composed of a TTF file and
an FOT file. The STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION Font Pack disk
contains TTF files which you install in Microsoft(R)
Windows(TM) 3.1. During installation, Windows creates
corresponding FOT files.

WordPerfect(R) for Windows
**************************

To use Li'l Bits fonts in WordPerfect for Windows, you need
WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows interim release 4/30/92 or later.
Contact WordPerfect for this release. Or you can use
WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows.

*********************************************
Using the Fonts in Type Manipulation Programs
*********************************************

If you use applications with type manipulation features
such as Bitstream MakeUp(TM), CorelDRAW, or Aldus
IntelliDraw(TM), we recommend that you apply to the Star
Trek Next, Star Trek Gen, Star Trek Next Pi, Crillee Italic,
and Swiss 911 Ultra Compressed fonts only those special
effects that change the orientation of a character,
for example, flipping or rotating.

NOTE: Keep in mind that if you apply these effects on a
symbol, it will not be an official STAR TREK symbol.

NOTE: Some versions of Harvard Draw do not work with any of
the fonts in the STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION Font Pack.
With CorelDRAW, the Mirror and Rotate effects do not print
correctly when you use Star Trek Next Pi.

You may have other applications with type manipulation
features that we did not test. If you do, follow the general
suggestions mentioned above.

See "CorelDRAW" in this file for more information.

**********************************
Star Trek Next Pi Font/Blank Boxes
**********************************

The Star Trek Next Pi font does not have characters
assigned to every key on the keyboard. If the Star Trek
Next Pi font is selected, and you press a key that does
not have a character assigned to it, a blank box or a
blank space may appear on the screen. When you print your
document containing these blank boxes or blank spaces,
the spacing is not correct. Select only keys that have
characters assigned to them. Check the character set chart
for the Star Trek Next Pi font to see which keys have
characters assigned to them.

Also, blank boxes may appear on the screen if you use the
Star Trek Next Pi font in Microsoft Word for Windows and
choose to show nonprinting characters, such as tabs, spacing,
or paragraph marks (Tools, Options, NonPrinting Characters).
Blank boxes may also appear on the screen when you select
similar features in Ami Pro(TM), PageMaker(R) 4.0, and other
applications. However, the boxes do not print, and the spacing
is not affected.

*************************************************************
Microsoft Excel, Aldus PageMaker, & Ventura Publisher
/PostScript(R) Printers
*************************************************************

The user guide recommends that when you print the fonts to
a PostScript printer, that you select "Bitmap (Type 3)" in
the Windows Control Panel. This usually solves the problem
of missing characters in print.

However, if you make this selection, and then rotate characters
from any of the fonts in Excel, PageMaker, or Ventura Publisher
and print to a PostScript printer, you may find that the rotated
characters don't print.

To print rotated characters, open the Windows Control
Panel and double-click Printers. Highlight your PostScript
printer and click Setup, Options, Advanced. In the TrueType
Fonts box under "Send to Printer as:", select "Adobe Type 1."
Then try printing fewer pages at a time, reducing the size of
the rotated characters, or reducing the number of fonts
or size of the fonts.

*******************************
Harvard Graphics(R) for Windows
*******************************

In some versions of Harvard Graphics for Windows, the fonts
in this package may not appear in the Font menu. If this
problem occurs, contact Software Publishing Corporation (SPC)
for an update to Harvard Graphics.

*********
CorelDRAW
*********

If you type more than five characters of the Star Trek Next,
Star Trek Gen, and Star Trek Next Pi fonts in CorelDRAW 3.x,
you get this message: "String is too long for desired font.
Text may be truncated." To solve this problem, try setting the
text as "Paragraph Text" instead of "Artistic Text."

***********************************
QuarkXPress(TM)/PostScript Printers
***********************************

The user guide recommends that when you print the fonts to
a PostScript printer, that you select "Bitmap (Type 3)" in
the Windows Control Panel. This usually solves the problem
of missing characters in print.

However, if you make this selection and then use the underline
feature in QuarkXPress and print to a PostScript printer,
you may find that the underline is thicker than it should be,
and that spaces between lines are wider than they should be.
If you find this is a problem, we recommend you do not use the
underline feature.

****************************************
Broderbund Print Shop Deluxe for Windows
****************************************

Star Trek Next Pi does not work with Print Shop(R) Deluxe.
When you try to use Star Trek Next Pi in Print Shop Deluxe,
the program substitutes a system font. This problem occurs
with any symbol font: It is not due to a problem in the
Star Trek Next Pi font.

************************
Font Conversion Programs
************************

We recommend that you do not use font conversion programs to
convert the fonts in this package to other font formats, such
as PostScript Type 1. Although you may be able to convert the
fonts, they will not print correctly.

*******
Kerning
*******

All the fonts in the STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION Font Pack
support kerning, except Star Trek Next Pi. However, at the
time this file was written, most Windows applications did not
support kerning with any TrueType fonts. Contact your
application vendor for information on the application's support
for kerning TrueType fonts.

*********************************
Screen Fonts at Small Point Sizes
*********************************

Font sizes of 7 or 8 point and below appear as Windows
resident fonts instead of the selected fonts on the screen.
However, the fonts print correctly.

********************
EGA Display Monitors
********************

EGA monitors have fewer pixels than VGA monitors. This means
that fonts do not appear as precise on EGA monitors as on VGA
monitors. However, the fonts print correctly.

******************
Removing the Fonts
******************

To remove the fonts

1. Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click Fonts.

2. Select a font to remove. You can select several fonts at
a time.

3. Click the Remove button. A message appears, asking you to
confirm your decision to remove the font.

4. If you want to remove the font completely from your system,
click the Delete Font File from Disk check box.

5. Click Yes. If you selected several fonts, click Yes to All.

6. Click Close to exit the Fonts dialog box. The fonts are
