                            Express Meter
                  Enterprise Optimization Module (EOM)

IMPORTANT: This file contains important information regarding
Enterprise Optimization Module (EOM) setup. Please be sure to read
this document in its entirety before running the Enterprise
Optimization Module. Read the accompanying User Manual
documentation for a more thorough description of EOM.

Quick Overview
==============
There are 5 main tasks required to use the Express Meter Enterprise
Optimization Module, in addition to installing Microsoft SMS and
Express Systems Express Meter. They are:

1. Install the Enterprise Optimization Module.
2. Modify the EOM.INI file to point to the appropriate directories.
3. Perform the Express Meter library conversion.
4. Wait for SMS to process the data.
5. View the consolidated data.

1. Installation
----------------
To install EOM, follow these instructions:
    * Insert Disk 1 into the floppy drive.
    * In Program Manager, choose File Run.
    * Type "setup" prefixed by the drive letter of the floppy drive
containing Disk 1 and press ENTER. For example, if
Disk 1 is in the a: drive, type "a:setup".
    * Follow the installation instructions displayed
      on the screen.

2. Modify EOM.INI
------------------
The EOM.INI file that is copied into the Windows directory during
installation contains invalid paths for Express Meter libraries and
the destination directory. This file must be modified before running
the Enterprise Optimization Module in order for it to run correctly.
Please see the User Guide for an explanation of the sections and entries
in the EOM.INI file.

3. Conversion
--------------
Consolidation involves actually running EOM.EXE. For best results,
be sure to restrict the range of dates to a maximum of one week's worth
of usage data. Please see the accompanying documentation for an
explanation of how to do this, and other options.

4. Wait
--------
SMS takes a while to process the data. You can view the .MIF files
being processed by looking in the \SMS\SITE.SRV\ISVMIF.BOX
directory -- the .MIF files will disappear one at a time. Please note
that even after the .MIF files have disappeared, SMS continues to
process them, so it is best to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes after
conversion before attempting to generate a report.

5. View data
-------------
Consolidated usage data can be viewed with either the SMS Administrator
console or with Microsoft Access 2.0. It is recommended that you use
Microsoft Access 2.0. Please see the accompanying documentation for
instructions on how to do this.
