ADDING A HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE COMPONENT

You can manually add a hardware or software component for this
configuration (PC). The Collector will save the information you enter
int the hidden file for the PC so the component will appear as part of
the hardware or software components list the next time you scan the PC.

When you add a new component for one configuration, the new component
will be available in choice boxes for other users on the LAN after you
load the collected data into the database and create a new Collector.

NOTE: You must complete some fields before you can proceed.

1. Move to a field using , , or TAB.

2. Enter information in the field. (Press F3 (CHOICE BOX) to see a
list of possible values for the field; press F2 (CLEAR FLD) to erase
    the field.)

    NOTE:  In some cases, you must select an item from the choice box;
in other cases, you can enter new data.

3. Press F10 (DONE) to save the component you added or press
F5 (CANCEL) to cancel what you entered.

HARDWARE COMPONENTS LIST

The Collector lists the components it found during the automatic
hardware scan, as well as any components you added manually (identified
by a check mark in the FE column) during a previous collection on this
PC. The hardware components list also includes any serial numbers you
entered.

You can add components to this configuration, edit components, or delete
any component you added manually.

At the top of the screen, the Collector identifies your system (for
example, Dell System 486/33), your monitor type (color or monochrome),
and your keyboard type (101/102-key or 83/84-key). If your printer was
turned on and online, the Collector also indicates that a printer
exists. Because the Collector cannot determine the manufacturer and
model of monitors, keyboards, and printers, edit each of these
components to include the correct information for your PC.

1. To edit a component, highlight it and press F3 (EDIT) or ENTER.
For example, you may want to enter information about your monitor,
keyboard, or printer, or to add a serial number, asset tag, or
    comment for a component.

2. To add a component, press F2 (ADD). For example, you may want to
add a product that the Collector doesn't identify automatically.

3. To delete a component you added manually, highlight it and press
F4 (DELETE). For example, you may need to delete a component you
added manually during a previous inventory cycle, but which is no
    longer found on the PC.

NOTE: You cannot delete components the Collector has identified
           automatically.

4. When done, press one of the following function keys (not all the
    keys are available every time):

    Function Key Description

F5 (SEE SW-LIST) Displays the list of software components found.

F6 (I/O MAP) Displays an I/O address map of the hardware
adapters the Collector has located, as well as a
                      list of IRQs (interrupt requests).

F7 (COLLECT SW) Starts the automatic collection of data for this
                      PC's software.

Collector, type EXIT at the DOS prompt.

F10 (QUIT) Ends the collection on this PC. The Collector
or asks you to confirm your decision and informs you
ESC if you haven't done all the tasks for a complete
                      collection.

SPECIFYING ANOTHER COLLECTOR DISKETTE

The Collector displays the status of the current .PCC file and the
amount of space left on the Collector diskette.

If your Collector diskette is full, you can insert another Collector
diskette into the floppy drive and specify the path to it so you can
continue the collection.

When you specify another Collector diskette, the Collector copies the
.PCC file for the current configuration to it. The Collector also
includes information about any new components you created.

NOTE: The diskette that you use must be a Collector diskette that you
previously made; you cannot use a regular diskette for this
       purpose.
COMPONENT I/O MAP

The Collector displays an I/O address map of the hardware components it
found installed on this PC, as well as a list of used and available IRQs
(interrupt requests). Press PG DN to see the IRQ list.

1. To add a component, press F2 (ADD). For example, you may want to
add a component that the Collector didn't identify automatically.

To edit a component, highlight the product and press F3 (EDIT) or
ENTER. For example, you may want to add comments, or change some of
the existing information about the component (for products that the
Collector identified automatically, you can change only certain
    fields).

To delete a component you added manually, highlight the component
and press F4 (DELETE). For example, you may need to delete a
component that you added manually during a previous inventory cycle,
but which no longer exists on the PC.

NOTE: You cannot delete software products that the Collector
           identified automatically.
