   NEW FEATURES IN THIS RELEASE
   ============================

   Windows 95 Support
   ------------------
Carbon Copy for Windows 3.0 is fully compatible with Microsoft's
forthcoming Windows 95 operating system. Carbon Copy supports
   cross-connections from Windows 95 to Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11
and Windows for Workgroups and vice-versa. You should be running
Windows 95 Beta M8 (Build 347) or later to run Carbon Copy for
   Windows 3.0.

   Remote Control Enhancements
   ---------------------------
Carbon Copy Remote Control has been significantly enhanced from
Carbon Copy 2.5. Remote Control is now up to five times faster
than in previous versions, and no longer replaces drivers in the
SYSTEM.INI file. You can also choose to view the Remote Control
window in Full-Screen or Windowed mode. Remote Control now supports
   64K (Hi-Color) and 16M (True-Color) modes.

   Remote Printing
   ---------------
The Remote Printing feature allows you to print files from any
application to the printer at the Host location, the printer at
the Guest location, or to printers at both locations. For example,
you could use Remote Printing if you are away from your office,
but want to print a document located on your office PC to the
printer at your current location. Simply connect to your office PC,
and set up Remote Printing to send the document to the printer at
   your current location.

   Remote Drive Access
   -------------------
Remote Drive Access allows you to share selected drives and
directories. Set up any drive and directory on your PC for sharing
with a remote computer using the Drive Sharing dialog box. After
setting up drives and directories for sharing, you can then use
the Carbon Copy drive mapping options to redirect the drive to a
remote PC. The redirected drive will appear as a local drive on
   the remote PC.

   Microcom Scripting
   ------------------
The Microcom Scripting language allows you to write programs to
automate Carbon Copy procedures. For example, you could create a
script that will automatically place a call to a remote PC and
   transfer a file.

   File Transfer Enhancements
   --------------------------
Carbon Copy File Transfer has been significantly enhanced from
Carbon Copy 2.5. File Transfer now includes file synchronization,
drag and drop directory transfers, recursive directory transfers
and crash recovery, and is much faster than in previous versions.

   Modem Wizard
   ------------
The Modem Wizard makes Carbon Copy installation easier by
automatically detecting your modem type for you and configuring
it correctly. You can use the Modem Wizard during installation,
or anytime after installation if you change your modem type, or
connect your modem to a different port.

   Security Enhancements
   ---------------------
You can now set multiple levels of security in Carbon Copy. All
the global security options are conveniently located in the Security
Options dialog box. You can set individual security options on the
Password Table, by setting up a customized user profile for each
user. You can also customize the Carbon Copy Event Log to keep
track of any events that take place during connections.

   Uninstall Program
   -----------------
Use the Uninstall program to remove all Carbon Copy 3.0 components
from your PC. The Uninstall procedure is completely automated.
Uninstall is useful if you want to free disk space on your PC, and
no longer want Carbon Copy installed on your PC.

   BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY
   ======================

This release of Carbon Copy is fully backward compatible to Carbon
Copy for Windows release 2.1 and later (2.0 for modem connections)
However, if you are running Windows 95 on either end of the
connection, both ends of the connection must be upgraded to Carbon
   Copy for Windows 3.0.

Selecting Carbon Copy 2.x Support in Setup
   ------------------------------------------
If during an initial or subsequent install of Carbon Copy, you
select the "Carbon Copy 2.x Support" (backward compatibility
option for Remote Control) in Setup, you must also select
either the Guest or Host options (or both) in order for the
Carbon Copy 2.x Support drivers to be installed properly.

TIPS FOR USING CARBON COPY FOR WINDOWS 3.0
   ==========================================

Disabling the Host Video on 256-color Cards
      -------------------------------------------
Carbon Copy may not be able to disable the video on some 256-
color cards. Changing to a 16-color driver will usually
      correct this.

Menus Fail to Disappear in Remote Control
      -----------------------------------------
With certain video cards, pull-down menus may fail to
disappear after use. If you encounter this problem, you can
      try adding the line:

         ForcePatch=On

to the [Remote Control] section of the host's CCW.INI file.
(If there is no [Remote Control] section, you will need to
create one.) If you encounter this problem, please report
it to Microcom, along with the model of the video card and
the driver that you are using.

Incorrect Font Display in Remote Control with #9GXi Video Card
      --------------------------------------------------------------
There is a problem running Remote Control with a #9GXi video
card (TIGA graphics chipset) as a guest. The symptoms are
scrambled fonts on the guest screen. #9 Corp no longer
supports this video card and does not have a new driver to
correct this problem. Try changing the guest video driver to
standard VGA or Super VGA, or switch to a different video card.
(Newer cards and drivers from #9 Corp work fine.)

Using Mouse 9.0 Screen Wrap Feature
      -----------------------------------
If you are using the Microsoft Mouse driver 9.0 or later with
the Screen Wrap feature enabled, you will not be able to take
advantage of the panning feature built into Remote Control that
allows a lower resolution full-screen viewer to pan a higher
resolution Host screen. To correct this, either disable the
Screen Wrap feature of the mouse driver or run Remote Control
      in windowed mode.

      Improving Remote Drive Access Performance
      -----------------------------------------
When using Remote Drive Access with File Manager, turning off
the "Indicate Expandable Branches" option in File Manager will
improve the performance of directory displays.

Running Carbon Copy on PCs with 4MB of Memory
      ---------------------------------------------
To run Carbon Copy on a PC with only 4MB of memory, you may
need to remove TSRs or network drivers. Removing SMARTDRV
disk caching will usually result in improved performance
and less disk thrashing. For best performance 8MB of memory
      is recommended.

MODEMS NOT FOUND ON OUR LIST OF DESCRIPTORS
   ===========================================

From time to time, there may be new modems released by various
manufacturers which are not included on our list of modems.
This is because these modems were not available to us at the
time that this product was released. In addition, there may
be updates to existing modem descriptors which have been made
   since this product was released.

If you are using a modem which does not appear on our list of
modems, you must call our Technical Support staff at (617) 551-1414.

   CARBON COPY GATEWAY SERVER
   ==========================

      Installing Multiple Gateway Servers
      -----------------------------------
If you are installing multiple Gateway Servers on a network,
the Server Name must be unique for each server. Use GATECFG.EXE
to configure the Server Name for each server.

Running Applications on the Carbon Copy Gateway Server
      ------------------------------------------------------
Carbon Copy Gateway is a non-dedicated server that allows other
applications to run on the same PC. There are some applications
that may affect the PC's ability to function as a Gateway Server,
such as applications that are CPU intensive or applications that
access the serial port. Also, since the Gateway Server uses the
network, running applications on the Gateway Server PC that use
the network may also affect the PC's ability to function as a
Gateway. These are not limitations of the Gateway Server, but
      rather the PC itself.

Running the Carbon Copy Gateway Server on IPX or NetBIOS Networks
      -----------------------------------------------------------------
Carbon Copy Gateway can be run on IPX or NetBIOS type networks.
To configure the Server properly, you MUST specify the .CFG file
for the network type. For example, at the DOS command prompt type
      either:

          GATECFG GATEIPX.CGF
               or
          GATECFG GATENETB.CFG

      Workstation Names with Underscores
      ----------------------------------
When calling into a Gateway Server, the workstation names
appearing in the listbox may have underscores. This is normal.
NCSI replaces spaces in the workstation name with underscores.

      CFG File Not Found
      ------------------
If the message "CFG file not found" is displayed when executing
GATEIPX, GATENETB, or GATECFG make sure the .CFG file is in the
same directory as the executables. If they are not in the same
directory, expand the file off the Carbon Copy diskettes or
from an Administrative installation on a network. For more
information on expanding files, see the section "Copying Files
from the Carbon Copy for Windows Disks" in this document.

      Increasing the NCBS Parameter
      -----------------------------
When using the Gateway on a NetBIOS compatible network, you should
increase the NCBS parameter on the Gateway Server PC as well as
the Carbon Copy workstation by 10. For example, if NCBS is
currently set to 10, increase it to 20. If you later install other
applications that use NCBS, be sure you increase this parameter
      again.

If you plan to run Windows on the Gateway Server PC while the
Gateway is in memory, you should add the following line to the
[386Enh] section of the Windows SYSTEM.INI file:

      COMxBUFFER=3200

Where x is the serial port for which the Gateway is configured.

   CARBON COPY TERMINAL
   ====================

Carbon Copy Terminal fully supports baud rates up to 115200.
However, the Windows 3.x serial port driver does not support
baud rates above 57600. To use Carbon Copy Terminal at a baud rate
of 115200, an enhanced serial port card with a 16550 UART and a
communications driver that supports 115200 must be installed.
Note that Windows 95 does support 115,200 bps.

COPYING FILES FROM THE CARBON COPY FOR WINDOWS DISKS
   ====================================================
The files on the Carbon Copy for Windows installation disks are
compressed. The files are not usable until they are expanded.
Setup expands the compressed files as they are copied onto
   your hard disk.

If you need to copy files directly from a Carbon Copy for Windows
disk without using Setup, follow these steps:

   1. Copy EXPAND.EXE (located in the \INSTALL directory) from the
Carbon Copy Setup Disk onto your hard drive. (This utility expands
compressed files to a usable format.)

   2. Insert the disk with the file you want to expand into drive
      A: (or any floppy-disk drive).

   3. Type the following and press ENTER:

      EXPAND A:path\<filename> C:<filename>

where A: is the disk drive you are copying from (source)
C: is the disk drive you are copying to (destination)

The compressed file is expanded as it is copied onto your
      hard-disk drive.

INFORMATION NOT FOUND IN THE USER'S GUIDE
   =========================================

Using Carbon Copy with Novell NetWare
      -------------------------------------
The following minimum versions of Novell NetWare components
are recommended for proper operation when using the Carbon
      Copy LAN (IPX) driver:

         Windows Components
         ------------------
         NETWARE.DRV: v2.02 (021026)
         NWIPXSPX.DLL: v1.32
         NWPOPUP.EXE: v2.02 (021027)
         VIPX.386: v1.13 (920903)
         VNETWARE.386: v1.06 (921015)

         DOS Components
         --------------
         EMSNETX.EXE: v3.31 (921112)
         IPXODI.COM: v2.00 (920904)
         LSL.COM: v2.00 (920904)
         NETX.EXE: v3.31 (921112)
         TBMI2.COM: v2.10 (911204)
         XMSNETX.EXE: v3.31 (921112)

It is especially important to update to Novell's VIPX.386
version 1.13 or later. The version that ships with Windows
      3.1 will not work properly.

The latest files are available on CompuServe in the Novell
forum as WINUP9.ZIP and DOSUP9.ZIP. Later versions of these
files may be available and may be used also.

Using Carbon Copy with 3COM 3C505 LAN Adapter Cards
      ---------------------------------------------------
The 3COM 3C505 LAN Adapter card does not work properly
with Microsoft Windows in enhanced mode. 3COM is
working on new drivers that will correct this problem.
Contact 3COM technical support at (800) 876-3266 for
      more information.

Using Carbon Copy with 3COM 3C5x9 LAN Adapter Cards
      ---------------------------------------------------
An updated ELNK3.386 NDIS3 driver for WFW 3.11 is required for
reliable operation when running CCW 3.0 over IPX. The update
is available for download on CompuServe in the Ask 3COM Forum
with a file name of 3c5x9x.exe. The version is 4.2.

Using Carbon Copy with the Windows 95 VCOMM Driver
      --------------------------------------------------
Carbon Copy includes its own communications driver VxD
(MCVCOMM.386) which is normally used by Carbon Copy to achieve
the best possible performance. (This driver does not replace
the standard Windows comm drivers and is only used when Carbon
      Copy is running).

However, some devices (buffered COM port replacements, ISDN
boards, etc), provide their own "port" drivers for use with the
Windows 95 VCOMM communications system. If you have one of
these devices, you can force Carbon Copy to use the VCOMM
drivers instead of its own native driver by doing the following:

      1) Select "Communications" from the "Options" menu.
      2) Choose "Serial Port" as the driver and click "Setup".
      3) Select the "Advanced" button.
      4) Select the "Use Windows Comm Services (VCOMM)" checkbox.

After Windows restarts, Carbon Copy will use the VCOMM driver
instead of its native communications services. You may reverse
the procedure to go back to using Carbon Copy's native driver.

Using ATI Mach 64 or Stealth VRAM in 16-color Mode
      --------------------------------------------------
When using a Mach 64 or Stealth VRAM in 16-color mode on
the Host, the viewer may display incorrect colors. To
correct this, you can configure the Host to use 256-colors
      or greater.

Network Warning Messages During Windows Startup
      -----------------------------------------------
Carbon Copy is not able to display Network Warning
messages during Windows startup. In order to prevent
problems with remote control, we recommend disabling
these messages using the Network option in Windows
Control Panel. If these messages are not disabled, you
will not be able to view the Host screen until the dialog
box is removed. However, the keyboard is still active
and pressing <Enter> will remove the warning message.

ISA Cornerstone Set to "Optimize for Photographs"
      -------------------------------------------------
The Cornerstone driver has a problem displaying
highlights when set to "Optimize for Photographs". This
will result in some of Carbon Copy for Windows dialogs,
including some in Setup, to not display selected options.
To solve this, use Cornerstone's Control Panel applet to
set the driver to "Optimize for Speed".

Disconnecting with the "Exit Windows" Dialog Displayed
      ------------------------------------------------------
Because of a limitation within Microsoft Windows, you
should not disconnect from a Host machine while the
"Exit Windows" dialog is displayed. If you do, you may
not be able to reconnect to the Host system until
someone at the host machine responds to the dialog box.

      Changing the Communications Options
      -----------------------------------
If you change any of the options on the Communications
menu (i.e. change drivers, WorkStation Name, Port, etc.)
while DOSHOST is loaded, you should unload and reload
the DOSHOST program. Some of the options do not take
effect in DOSHOST until this is done.

Running Setup with Limited Disk Space
      -------------------------------------
Setup requires a minimum of 8Mb of disk space plus 2Mb
of temporary workspace to install the complete Carbon Copy
for Windows product. If your disk space is limited to less
than this amount, and you have a previously installed version
of Carbon Copy for Windows on your hard disk, you may want
to delete it so you have enough space to reinstall the product.

      HP Intellifont Drivers
      ----------------------
The HP Intellifont display driver (IFW.DRV) is incompatible
with Carbon Copy for Windows. You should remove this driver
from your SYSTEM.INI in order to use Carbon Copy.

      Adobe Type Manager
      ------------------
Adobe Type Manager (ATM) modifies (patches) Windows in ways
which are not compatible with Carbon Copy for Windows. If
you wish to use Carbon Copy on a system with ATM installed, you
      must disable ATM.

      Communications Port Not Found Message
      -------------------------------------
If you get a "Communications port not found." message
from Carbon Copy, you may want to check the "Custom"
settings in the Port Settings dialog box to make sure
they are correct. The settings installed by using the
"Default" pushbutton are usually correct for most systems.

      Modem Wizard Detection
      ----------------------
Modem Wizard may fail to detect the correct modem under some
      circumstances. These include:

      1) PCs with older serial ports which drop characters, which
may cause Modem Wizard to incorrectly identify the modem.

      2) Some modems (notably the Motorola Power and 326x modems)
may not be detected properly unless they are power-cycled
before the Modem Wizard is run.

      3) If your modem requires proprietary software to configure
it properly, Modem Wizard may not detect it.

      4) If your modem does not return unique strings in response to
Modem Wizard's queries, Modem Wizard may mis-identify the
the modem. In most cases, this is because more than one
manufacturer is using the same chipset and firmware, and
Modem Wizard cannot tell the difference between one or more
modems. In most cases, you can use the modem that Modem
Wizard detected anyway, or choose "Change" to select the
         correct modem name.

In each of these cases, the modem can be configured manually,
or by selecting the "Change" button when Modem Wizard is
      finished.

      Remote Printing and Windows 95
      ------------------------------
If you are using Remote Printing with Windows 95, you must
select the RAW spooling option in the printer driver on the
Host (instead of the default EMF option).

Scripting Example in the User's Guide
      -------------------------------------
In the example script in chapter 15 "Scripting" of the User's
Guide, the variable "xfer_direction" is declared as a string.
It should be declared as an integer.

      Scripting "RunRemoteApplication" Function
      -----------------------------------------
The "RunRemoteApplication" function described in chapter 15
of the User's Guide is actually named "ShellRemote". In all
other respects, the function operates in the same manner
      as described in the documentation.
