GETTING STARTED

BEFORE INSTALLING NFSWARE

The NFSware software is available for installation on Intel or
Alpha based platforms. Before installing the NFSware Server
software, you should make sure that:

o Your system is running TCP/IP.

o Your system meets NFSware requirements.

o You have Administrator privileges on the system.

o You make a backup copy of your NFSware software.

TCP/IP

You canot run NFSware correctly unless a TCP/IP Service
is running on your system.

Open the Windows NT Control Panel and select Services to view and
set the status of your TCP/IP service.

				NOTE
Your Windows NT software package includes TCP/IP software.
The Windows NT Express setup program does not install this
software. Make sure you install this software or other
Windows NT- and Windows Sockets-compatible TCP/IP software
        before installing NFSware.

We recommend that you run TCP/IP with DNS support enabled.

For information about TCP/IP services, see your TCP/IP or Windows
NT documentation for information about TCP/IP services.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

You should make sure that the Windows NT system on which you want
to install and run the NFSware has:

o Windows NT 3.1 or later software (Windows NT 3.5 is the
default for Intel and for Alpha based systems)

o Microsoft's Windows Socket V1.1 or later

o Free disk space as follows:

   - At least 2.5 megabytes for Intel based systems

   - At least 4 megabytes for Alpha based systems

o A Windows NT compatible network adapter (already configured
   and working with your TCP/IP)

See your Windows NT documentation for a list of compatible
network adapters.

SETTING ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES

Before you install or attempt to manage NFSware, you need
Administrator privileges on the machine where you want to
install NFSware. Make sure to enable the following rights for
the account under which you plan to run NFSware (usually the
Administrator account).

o Back up files and directories

o Log on as a service

o Restore files and directories

o Take ownership of files or other objects

To make sure you have all the necessary rights enabled, login
as Administrator and do the following:

1. Run the User Manager from Administrative Tools.

2. Select User Rights from the Policies pulldown menu.

3. Select the Show Advanced User Rights check box.

4. Select the specified rights from the Right drop down box.
Make sure that the Grant To: list box displays the desired
account. Add rights as necessary. See your Windows NT
   documentation.

MAKING BACKUP COPIES

You should make a backup copy of your NFSware software. After
installation, store the original and backup copy in a safe
place.

To make a backup copy, use the Copy Disk command from the
Windows NT File Manager Disk menu.

See your Windows NT documentation.

DURING INSTALLATION

NFSware prompts you to enter the:

o User name - Required. The user name can be up to 64
   alphanumeric characters.

o Company name - Optional.

o Serial number - Optional. If you do not enter a serial
number, you have 30 days to evaluate NFSware after which
   you must purchase a license.

INSTALLING NFSware FROM A FLOPPY DISK DRIVE

There are two NFSware diskettes. You must be logged in with
administrator privileges to install NFSware. Start the
Windows NT system where you want to install NFSware and do
the following:

1. Insert the first NFSware diskette in the diskette drive
   (drive A or B).

2. Select the Run command from the File Manager File menu.

3. Type A:\SETUP in the Run dialog box and press Enter. (Type
B:\SETUP if the diskette is in drive B.)

Follow all directions as they appear on the screen.

By default, the setup program installs NFSware in C:\NFSware.
If you want, you can select a different directory.

The system copies the NFSware files to the specified directory,
builds the NFSware icons, and sets NFSware startup to automatic.

INSTALLING NFSware FROM ANOTHER DISK DRIVE

Process Software Corporation also distributes NFSware over the
Internet. If you received NFSware this way, do the following:

1. Login with Administrator privileges, open the command prompt,
and go to the drive and directory where you down loaded the
   installation kit.

2. Type the name of the installation kit and press Enter.

3. Type SETUP and press Enter

4. Follow all directions as they appear on the screen.

By default, the setup program installs NFSware in C:\NFSware.
If you want, you can select a different directory.

The system copies the NFSware files to the specified directory,
builds the NFSware icons, and sets NFSware startup to automatic.

BEFORE STARTING NFSWARE

Before starting the NFSware Server:

1. Create the User, Group, and Export databases.
-- Go to NFSware and select the first database that you want
to build from the Databases pulldown menu or from the
NFSware button bar. See the online help for information.

      When exporting directories:

o Make sure that the Administrator has "Full Control"
access to the directory that you want to export.

o If necessary, use the security menu selections in the
File Manager to set access to "Full Control." See the
        online help for information.

2. If you plan to support PCNFS clients, make sure to set up
the printer and create a spool directory in Server
Configuration. NFSware automatically exports this directory.

3. Change other default configuration parameters as necessary.
-- Select Configure from the Server pulldown menu and enter
      the necessary changes.

NFSware implements any changes you enter when you reload or
restart the server.

STARTING NFSWARE

Start NFSware by doing one of the following:

o Go to the Control Panel Services option, select NFSware, and
   click on Start.

o Open NFSware, select the Server pulldown menu, and click on
   Start.

o Click on the Start button on the NFSware button bar.

o Reboot the system.
