Comanche-CD Q&A
Common tech support questions and answers...

;----------------------------------------------------------------------
Running Comanche results in the following message "EMM386:
unrecoverable privileged operation error, enter to reboot".

When Comanche exits before showing the NovaLogic logo with a
message similar to the one above, it is because your computer is
probably loading a protected mode memory manager (EMM386,
QEMM, 386MAX, etc.) Follow the installation instructions in the
manual on making a boot disk.

Comanche is running without music and/or digital sounds!

This symptom is almost always traced to misconfigured sound
settings. Run SOUNDSET in the Comanche directory and choose
the correct settings for your machine. SOUNDSET does not attempt
to detect the default or correct settings. Often the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file will have a line which notes the correct settings for your sound
card. Look for a line like "SET BLASTER = A220 I5 D1". In this
example, your card would be configured with port address of 220,
IRQ of 5 and DMA as channel 1.

Comanche runs, but the joystick does not work correctly.

Comanche must be informed that you are using a joystick. Choose
the correct joystick in the Comanche drop-down menu. You can get
to the menus by pressing the ESCAPE key. You must save your menu
selections (found in the first menu) for Comanche to remember your
settings. Do this after you calibrate your joystick.

You don't want to make a boot disk!

Not only is this an ongoing concern for us, but for other developers as
well. Microsoft has recognized the need in their DOS to allow the
user to easily change the machine's configuration for various
programs. Starting with MS-DOS 6.0, DOS has built-in
capabilities to allow you to easily choose different configurations
at boot time. We recommend this setup to users who want to explore
this option. You can read about DOS 6.x's boot options in your DOS
manual. We have also placed a self-extracting file on our BBS ,
called MAKEMENU.EXE, which will create a multiple boot
configuration on hard disk for you to start with.
