1. Stac BBS

The information in this document is up to date at the time ReachOut 5.0 was
released. To see if there is later information on any topic, contact the Stac
Bulletin Board System at (619) 431-5956 and check for documents under topics
that concern you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. BEFORE INSTALLING REACHOUT

If you have any other remote control software on your computer, remove it before
installing ReachOut.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. VIDEO DRIVERS

If you are having video problems while using ReachOut and are using
a third party video driver, switch to standard Windows SVGA and try using
ReachOut again. If it works correctly, check with the manufacturer of your
video card to see if there is an updated driver. If not, you can use the
Windows SVGA driver with ReachOut.

Some video modes may cause the viewer to lose the prompt in a DOS session
running under Windows. If this happens, press ALT+ENTER to reduce the
DOS session to a window. The DOS prompt will reappear.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. WINDOWS 95

ReachOut has been extensively tested for use with modem and direct
connections with the M8 release of Windows 95. At release time, ReachOut
supported the standard VGA and SVGA drivers. You cannot use ReachOut in
Windows 95 to control a DOS Host.

If your system has Windows 95 installed using a different video driver,
you might want to change it to use one of the standard drivers. Here's how:

  1. Right click on the desktop.
  2. Choose Properties from the context menu.
  3. Click the Settings tab in the Display Properties dialog.
  4. Click the Change Display Type button.
  5. In the Adapter Type section, click the Change button.
  6. Click Show All Devices to list the drivers.
  7. In the Manufacturers section on the left, click the first entry
       (Standard display types).
  8. In the Models section on the right, click VGA or SVGA.
  9. As you close and exit, Windows 95 may prompt you to insert
your installation media so it can find the driver. Then it will
offer to restart your computer to use the driver.

When Windows 95 restarts, you'll be able to use ReachOut.

If you uninstall ReachOut under Windows 95, the process ends with this
message: "Batch file missing. File not found." Just choose OK and ignore the
message. ReachOut and all its components have been removed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. SCREEN SAVERS

If you want a screen saver to be activated on the Host, minimize the ReachOut
Host window while it waits for a connection. See item 6 above for screen savers
on the Host while using File Manager.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. TERMINAL EMULATOR

If your Viewer gets into Terminal Emulator mode by accident in the middle
of a session, your connection was probably unstable. Check the Trouble
shooting sections of the ReachOut User's Guide and the ReachOut Help to
find out why you lost the connection.

If you enter any numbers, use the standard number keys rather than the
keypad. The keypad keys are interpreted as cursor movements no matter
what the setting of NumLock.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. PEN MOUSE DRIVERS

If you have trouble using your pen mouse, try it with the standard Windows
Mouse Driver.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8. PUBLIC INSTALLS

If you are having problems doing a public install in DOS, try it in
Windows by choosing Run from the File menu and entering INSTALL PUBLIC.
If you are upgrading ReachOut, first remove ReachOut from your computer.

You may need to enter license information the first time you run the Host
or the Viewer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. INTERNET ACCESS TO STAC

Stac has a World Wide Web page. Connect to http://www.stac.com and choose
Product Support Services link. You can access documents and file updates
directly via the Stac FTP site at ftp.stac.com /pub/Support.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10. CONNECTING FROM A DOS VIEWER

If you connect to a Host, then choose Exit to Local PC from the Viewer's
File menu, you will need to return to viewing mode before starting
Windows on the Host. While you are exited to the local PC, you are still
connected. Typing Win to start Windows in this situation starts your
local Windows; it will not allow you to view the Host.

To return to viewing mode, change to the Reachout directory, run GVN or
GVM, then press ESCAPE to return to the Host.
