			       THE LATEST NEWS
for Intel NET SatisFAXtion software ver. 3.01
*************************************************************************

REQUIRED NETWORK FILES
----------------------

For the best performance, use these network files on the fax server and user
workstations (available from Novell's Netwire forum):

Novell files:

- IPX.COM ver. 3.10 (or later)
- LSL.COM ver. 2.05 (or later)
- IPXODI.COM ver. 2.12 (or later)
- NETX.EXE ver. 3.26 (or later) or VLM.EXE ver. 1.10 (or later). (Don't
load NETX into upper memory. This may cause very slow network access.)

Windows files:

- VNETWARE.386 (11/19/93 or later)
- VIPX.386 (10/11/93 or later)
- NWPOPUP.EXE (10/28/93 or later)
- NWIPXSPX.DLL (10/18/94 or later)
- NWCALLS.DLL (10/20/94 or later)

DISK SPACE ON THE FAX SERVER
----------------------------

The fax server stops answering calls and sending faxes when disk space runs
low. You can check free disk space with FAXADMIN from DOS or Fax Server
Monitor from Windows*.

MAXIMIZING THE FAX SERVER'S MEMORY
----------------------------------

The fax server must have 640 Kbytes of memory (plus upper memory blocks) with
512 Kbytes of conventional memory free.

If you don't have enough memory, try these tips:

- If your fax server software is on a local drive and doesn't print to a
network printer, you don't need to load NETX or VLMs on the fax server.

- See page 6 of the Installation Guide for information on using expanded
    memory.

EDITING YOUR SYSTEM FILES
-------------------------

The fax server's CONFIG.SYS file should show FILES=60, not 50, as recommended
in the Installation Guide.

INSTALLING OVER OLD VERSIONS
----------------------------

Before you copy the NET SatisFAXtion 3.0 software over an older version, make
sure your supervisor-equivalent network account has write access to all of
the old files. Then do this:

- Forward any received faxes and have users log in to the fax server to
    make sure they receive them.

- Back up your current fax server and user software. This includes
USERS.DAT, the fax server QUEUE directory, and shared phonebooks and
    custom coversheets.

- If installing over old software, be sure to down any fax servers currently
running on the network and make sure no users are running fax software.
We recommend upgrading after hours when network use is less.

- If installing into a new directory, be sure to copy the contents of the
old fax server QUEUE directory to the new QUEUE directory.

Follow all the instructions contained in your Installation Guide.
After upgrading, check that the printer selection in fax server SETUP is
correct. (It's in the Autoprint options.)

RUNNING TWO VERSIONS
--------------------

You can run this version of NET SatisFAXtion software with versions 2.5, 2.51,
and 3.00 of the software. Running it with a version prior to 2.5 won't work.

LANDesk(TM) SUPPORT
-------------------

This version of NET SatisFAXtion software automatically works with LANDesk(TM)
Management Suite 2.0. If you're using LANDesk 1.x, you must change the
properties of your LANDesk Fax Alert icon so a different program runs when
you double-click it. (If not, you'll get an error when you try to run it.)
From the File menu, choose Properties. Change the file specified under the
command line property to ALERT15.EXE (instead of FAXALERT.EXE).

IF YOU HAVE DMI
---------------

If you have workstations with DMI (Desktop Management Interface), do this:

1. At each administrator's workstation, run the DMI setup program,
MIFSETUP.EXE, which is in the shared FAXability directory.

This installs the required MIF file in the MIF database. The DMI Service
Layer does not have to be running before you run MIFSETUP.

GammaLink* FAXMODEM SUPPORT
---------------------------

All GammaFax faxmodems, except for the CPD or Micro Channel faxmodems, are
supported. (See page 6 of the Installation Guide for a complete listing.)
The DTMF touch-tone routing works with the GammaFax CPI and CP4-LSI faxmodems
only. The sender should follow the methods used by Intel faxmodems for
touch-tone routing from a fax machine (see page 60 of the NET SatisFAXtion
User's Guide). None of the boards support the "&"dialing modifier in the
phone number.

SUFFIX SUPPORT NOT AVAILABLE
----------------------------

You can have prefixes added to all phone numbers the fax server dials,
but not suffixes. Ignore any references to specifying suffixes in the
documentation.

IF YOU'RE USING A MADGE TOKEN RING ADAPTER
------------------------------------------

You may experience communications problems if you're using the SMART.EXE
network driver. Use one of these alternative drivers instead: Madge ODI
(if you don't need LLC support), SMARTLSP (if you need LLC support).
You can get the latest Madge drivers by downloading SMART.ZIP from Madge's BBS.
Phone (408) 955-0262.

SETTING FILE ACCESS RIGHTS
--------------------------

You must make sure you have the correct file access rights to the shared user
directory. To use OCR, you need WRITE access to configuration files and the
\FAXABLTY and \BIN directories. To set the WRITE access rights, use the GRANT
command, as in:

GRANT R W C F FOR U:\FAXUSER\FAXABLTY TO EVERYONE

You need READ-ONLY access to all remaining files to prevent users from
deleting them. To set the READ-ONLY access rights, run the batch file
READONLY.BAT, which is located in the shared user directory.

USING AUTOCFG
-------------

To quickly set up a user using user defaults, you can run AUTOCFG from the
command line (instead of running it from the system login script). Use this
format:

AUTOCFG login_name full_name

For example, type:

AUTOCFG jsmith John Smith /w /x

USING AUTOCFG ON A GROUP
------------------------

There might be some users on your network you don't want to set up. For
example, users with stand-alone faxmodems.

To run AUTOCFG on a subset of your users, create a NetWare group containing
those users. See page 20 of Installation Guide for instructions on creating
a NetWare group.

CHANGING YOUR SETUP OPTIONS IN SETUP
------------------------------------

If you change your shared user SETUP after you set up the user workstations,
you must run AUTOCFG or SETUPFAX again to put the changes into effect. Use
AUTOCFG with the /O option to force an update of existing files.

If you change the field length in your Client billing options, you must run
CONVERT again to recreate your client database files.

USING AUTOCFG WITH /O
---------------------

If you use AUTOCFG with /O, AUTOCFG checks the date of each user's
configuration file and updates that file if it is older than the default
configuration file (DCF) in the shared user directory.

Using AUTOCFG WITH /X
---------------------

If you use AUTOCFG with /X, AUTOCFG does not modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT or
CONFIG.SYS files and does not restart the user workstations. Since no system
files are modified, the configuration takes effect without restarting.

USING AUTOCFG WITH /W
---------------------

You can use AUTOCFG with the /W option in two ways. You can either type the
full Windows path:

#x:AUTOCFG %LOGIN_NAME %FULL_NAME /WC:\WINDOWS

or leave the path blank:

#x:AUTOCFG %LOGIN_NAME %FULL_NAME /W (uses DOS path)

Don't leave the path blank unless you're sure there is a Windows directory
correctly specified in the DOS path on the user's workstation. (AUTOCFG
searches the path until it finds the directory that has WIN.COM.)

If no Windows path exists, SETUPFAX installs NETSAT.INI in the user's default
personal fax directory (C:\FAX). Before running Windows, you must copy
NETSAT.INI to the user's Windows directory. Then, install FAXability using
the FAXability SETUP program.

If you run a shared Windows installation
----------------------------------------

There should be two paths to Windows: a path to the local software and a path
to the network software. Always include the path to the local software
before the path to the network software.

SETTING UP WINDOWS USERS WITH SETUPFAX
--------------------------------------

SETUPFAX has a basic setup option for specifying where the NET SatisFAXtion
Windows software will be installed on user workstations. SETUPFAX
automatically fills in this option with the Windows directory specified in
the DOS path on the user's workstation. (It searches the path until it finds
the directory that has WIN.COM.) Or, you can type your own Windows path.

If none exists, SETUPFAX installs NETSAT.INI in the user's default personal
fax directory (C:\FAX). Before running Windows, you must copy NETSAT.INI to
the user's Windows directory. Then, install FAXability using the FAXability
SETUP program.

AUTOMATIC FAX SERVER STARTUP
----------------------------

If you want your fax server to log in to the network automatically, it's a
good idea to hide the password so it's not visible in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
One way to do this is to redirect the contents of a text file containing the
fax server user name and password into the LOGIN command. For example:

LOGIN < C:\UTILS\SERVER.DAT

SERVER.DAT should contain the fax server user name on the first line
(followed by a return), and the password on the second line (also followed
by a return).

SETTING UP CLIENT BILLING
-------------------------

Be sure to check the Fax Administration Addendum to find out about a number of
helpful hints related to client billing.

LOADING FAXNODE IN UPPER MEMORY
-------------------------------

To load part of FAXNODE in upper memory, you must use the DOS 5.0 or 6.x UMB
services. Regardless of which memory manager you use, include DOS=HIGH,UMB
in CONFIG.SYS.

USING FAXPOP ON LPT1
--------------------

Don't use Ctrl-P when FAXPOP is loaded and assigned to LPT1. (Ctrl-P causes
all characters sent to the screen to be sent to LPT1.)

MANAGING FONTS FOR HP LASERJET* EMULATION
-----------------------------------------

Users need to download fonts only once. To manage the font files at the fax
server, order the scalable font utility from FaxBack* document 0030.

PRINTER REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTOPRNT
---------------------------------

The printer the fax server autoprints to must be HP LaserJet or PostScript*
compatible and have at least 2 Mbytes of memory.

PRINTING FROM FAX FORWARD
-------------------------

If printing from Fax Forward, you may experience problems when trying to
print to the Windows Canon LBP-III or IBM LaserJet 4019 printer driver, or
any other driver that uses GENDRV.DLL.

INTERNAL ROUTING WITH FAXability
--------------------------------

Using FAXability, you can send a fax or file directly to other users on your
NET SatisFAXtion network. See the FAXability Addendum for details.

FAXability's OCR FEATURE
------------------------

To use OCR: You need to include a search drive in the system login script
that maps to the FAXABLTY\BIN directory. The mapping example included in the
Installation Guide and FAXability Addendum is not correct. Replace it with
this instead:

MAP s16:=servername/sys:apps\faxuser \faxablty\bin

To disable OCR:

To disable OCR for all your users, before running FAX-ability SETUP, edit
the FAX-ABLTY.INI file that is located in the shared FAXability directory
(For example, x:\APPS\FAXUSER\FAXABLTY). In the [OCR] section, change
Installed=1 to Installed=0. Ignore the message that SETUP displays about
having to be mapped to the FAXABLTY\BIN directory.

To disable OCR on individual workstations, edit the FAXABLTY.INI file,
located in the each user Windows directory.

SENDING PREVIEWED FAXES FROM FAXability
---------------------------------------

In the troubleshooting section of the FAXability README file, it describes
what to do if faxes you've previewed aren't sent. The option you are told to
increment, PreviewRescheduleTimeout, is in the [SEND] section, not [FAXABLTY],
as is described.

RUNNING FAXability ON A DISKLESS WORKSTATION
--------------------------------------------

If running FAXability on a diskless workstation, you must have drive C:
permanently mapped to a temporary directory where users have read and write
access. If not, you will get the message "Error reading drive B" when you
try to run FAXability.

USING FAXability's ADDRESS BOOK
-------------------------------

If it takes a long time for the Address Book to load, try this:

- Reduce the size of the Address Book by eliminating any unnecessary entries.

- If the Address Book is shared, you may want to install it separately on
    each user's workstation instead.

- Advise your users to keep the Address Book loaded whenever they run
FAXability instead of unloading it and then reloading each time it's
    required.

NEWS ABOUT OTHER PRODUCTS
-------------------------

ANTIVIRUS PROGRAMS
------------------

Antivirus programs can conflict with the fax software. If you have problems
faxing, unload the antivirus program and try again.

BRIDGES AND ROUTERS
-------------------

If users have problems connecting to a fax server over an internal bridge,
you might have a problem with the network interface card driver on the file
server. Contact the vendor of the network interface card for a later version
of the driver.

If you have a router between the fax server and user workstations, configure
the router to allow type 168h SAP broadcasts. See your router documentation
for instructions.

INTEL LAN SELECT SOFTWARE
-------------------------

You must use version 1.6 or later.

QEMM386 IN STEALTH MODE
-----------------------

To use QEMM386 version 7.03 or earlier in stealth mode with FAXNODE and
Windows, obtain a new version of STEALTH.VXD from the QOS bulletin board.
The number is 310-314-3227.

WINDOWS
-------

- The TimerCriticalSection line in each user's SYSTEM.INI file must be
    set to 5000 or higher.

- When you use modem communications software under Windows, turn off
FAXability's autoretrieve feature (under the Options menu). If
autoretrieve is on, your communications software could time out when a
    fax is received.

- EMM386.SYS or Compaq CEMM.SYS may cause problems with your computer.
Try another expanded memory manager such as QEMM386, 386MAX, or DOS or
    Windows' EMM386.EXE.

- If you have problems running QEMM386 and Windows with the fax software,
see the QEMM and Windows documentation for troubleshooting tips.

- If you have problems running 386MAX and Windows with the fax software,
try adding this to your AUTOEXEC.BAT:

    set emscache=ok

- If your users experience frequent crashes under Windows, they may have
an older version of VIPX.386. Contact Novell for information on obtaining
the version dated 10/11/93 or later.

- If users receive errors from Windows saying they don't have a large enough
Net Heap, follow the instructions in the dialog box to increase the value.

USING Faxpop IN WINDOWS
-----------------------

Requirements:

- You must load FaxNode for DOS before Windows is started.

- You must create a program information file (PIF) for every DOS
application that you plan on faxing from using FAXPOP. A PIF file
controls the way DOS applications run in Windows, ensuring that no
conflicts occur. The NET SatisFAXtion software ships with a FAXADMIN.PIF
file that you can use as a sample.

For each DOS application, follow these steps:

1. Create a batch file that looks like this (using WordPerfect as the
example application you want to run):

    FAXPOP
    WP
    FAXPOP /u

It's important FAXPOP is unloaded before another DOS application is run.

2. Copy the sample PIF file, FAXADMIN.PIF to a new file, giving it a name
that will remind you of the DOS program it controls, such as WP.PIF.

3. Use the PIF editor, PIFedit, to specify the settings for WP.PIF. This
includes the Program Filename, Windows Title, and Start-up Directory.

4. (Optional) Create a new program item icon for WP.PIF. (Use the New
command from the File menu in the Program Manager.)

5. Run WP.PIF from now on.

WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS
----------------------

For more information on using the NET SatisFAXtion software with Windows
for Workgroups, order FaxBack document 6120.

WordPerfect 5.1
---------------

If the FAXPOP menu is difficult to read, from the WordPerfect Setup menu
select Display/Color/Fonts/Attributes/Normal Font Only, 16 Foreground Colors.

WordPerfect 6.0 FOR WINDOWS AND CLIENT BILLING
----------------------------------------------

If billing is enabled, you may not see the billing screen because it's
hidden behind the WordPerfect window. To display it, try minimizing WordPerfect.

WordPerfect 6.0 FOR WINDOWS MACRO
---------------------------------

The WordPerfect 6.0 macro, FAXABLE6.WCM, is now available. You'll find it
in the MACROS subdirectory under the shared FAXability directory. To make it
available from WordPerfect for Windows, follow these steps:

1. Copy the macro file (FAX-ABLE6.WCM) into WordPerfect's MACROS directory.

2. Start WordPerfect for Windows. From the Tools menu, choose Macro.

3. In the Macro dialog, choose Edit.

4. In the Edit Macro dialog, choose Menu.

5. In the Assign Macro to Menu dialog, choose the Insert button.

6. Press F4 to display a list of macros. In the files list box, pick the
    FAXABLE6.WCM file. Then choose OK.

7. In the Select Macro dialog, choose the Select button. Choose OK on the
    next dialog, and then Cancel.

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS
---------------------------

HOW DO I SET UP MY USERS IF THEY FAX ONLY FROM WINDOWS?
-------------------------------------------------------

The NET SatisFAXtion 3.0 software comes with two versions of the program
each user runs to interact with the fax server. FAXNODE for DOS is a TSR
program that is loaded from each user's system startup file (for example,
AUTOEXEC.BAT).

FAXNODE for Windows is a DLL that executes every time FAXability starts. This
means that your users who don't use the DOS fax software don't need to allocate any of their workstation's memory to the FAXNODE TSR.

To install only the Windows software with AUTOCFG, use the /W /X options.
(See pages 20-21 of your Installation Guide.)

To install only the Windows software with SETUPFAX, don't add the startup
commands to the system when you exit (See pages 4-10 of the NET SatisFAXtion
User's Guide.) Then, run the FAXability SETUP. (See the FAXability Addendum.)

The FAXNODE for Windows DLL starts when the user runs the FAXability Manager,
or the FAXNODE for Windows program icon. The workstation can send and receive
faxes when one of these icons is running on the desktop.

CAN I USE THE DATA MODEMS ON THE FAXMODEMS INSTALLED IN MY FAX SERVER?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No, the software is optimized for use as a fax server and disables the
data modem on the SatisFAXtion faxmodems.

THE FAX SERVER WON'T SEND OR RECEIVE ANY FAXES. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Try the following:

- Use Fax Server Monitor or FAXADMIN to check the disk space available
on the server. When disk space falls below the amount specified in fax
server SETUP (Administrative options/Minimum disk space free), the
fax server stops sending and receiving.

- Make sure the phone line is connected properly. (See page 8 of the
    Installation Guide.)

- Remove any phone devices between the fax server and the phone line.

- Follow the instructions on page 68 of the Fax Administration Guide to
unload the fax server software. Watch for any errors that display as it
    unloads, indicating an installation problem.

- Make sure the I/O address you assigned to each faxmodem is not being
used by another device in the computer.

- (Intel faxmodems only) Make sure the I/O address listed in the fax server
SETUP is the same as the I/O address assigned by BOARDSET.

- Make sure the number of boards listed in SETUP's Faxmodem/Phoneline
    settings is accurate.

CAN I USE NET SatisFAXtion SOFTWARE ON A NetWare 4.0 NETWORK?
-------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, NET SatisFAXtion is compatible with NetWare 4.0. However, you cannot
import your fax user accounts from NetWare 4.0. Instead, you'll have to
create your fax user accounts manually. (See page 17 of the Installation Guide.)

CAN I USE NET SatisFAXtion SOFTWARE WITH MS DOS 6.x?
----------------------------------------------------

Yes, in fact, we recommend that you use MS DOS 6.x's EMM386 memory manager and
SMARTDRV disk caching program to increase performance on the fax server and
user workstations. However, don't use disk compression on the fax server's
hard drive. This severely decreases the performance of your fax server.

MY INTEL FAXMODEM IS NOT RESPONDING. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
------------------------------------------------------

- Run BOARDSET again and try a different I/O address.

- Reinstall the faxmodem in a different slot. Faxmodems are very
    sensitive to bus noise.

- Make sure the I/O address listed in fax server SETUP is the same as the
    I/O address assigned by BOARDSET.

- Try installing the faxmodem in another system.

CAN I USE WORDPERFECT 6.0'S FAX SERVICES?
-----------------------------------------

Yes. When you want to send a fax from WordPerfect 6.0, choose the Print/Fax
option instead of using FAXPOP. You'll need the latest version of a program
called INTELFAX from WordPerfect. Make sure the software is loaded in your
system startup file in the following order:

FAXNODE
INTELFAX
WP
