This FAQ is for version 1.0. Rumors of a new version are circulating, but they
are unsubstantiated (at least as far as I'm concerned!). I have included a few
new Fatalities (these are marked as unconfirmed, since I haven't been to the
arcade today!) and a few Animalities as well. I guess that's it for now...oh,
thanks to the guys on #MK3 for some good info last night. I hope to see you
guys back there soon!

			     Where to Find This FAQ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This FAQ is posted once every two weeks (usually more often) to these Usenet
newsgroups:

alt.games.mk
rec.games.video.arcade

To find it if it is not posted, you can FTP to Andy Eddy's Game FAQs FTP site.
The address and directory are listed in the "Other Mortal Kombat Internet
Resources" section. It can also be found on each of the WWW Pages listed except
for The Kombat Web, I think.

An alternate FTP site is Rat's FTP site:

ftp://ftp.mv.com/pub/users/rat

You should be able to find it there, if for some reason you can't get to Netcom.

You may also wish to obtain the FAQ by e-mail each time it is updated. To do
so, send e-mail to John Coleman at

coleman@hopwood.lynchburg.edu

In your request, have the subject read "Subscribe MK3 FAQ" and send nothing
but your e-mail address in the body of the message.

				Kommon Attacks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** General Attacks **

Here are attacks that are common to all Kombatants.

Face Punch: High Punch
Body Punch: Low Punch
Face Kick: High Kick
Body Kick: Low Kick

Jump Punch: Jump (Up, Up & Forward, Up & Back) & High or Low Punch
Jump Kick: Jump (Up, Up & Forward, Up & Back) & High or Low Kick

Uppercut: Down & High Punch
Crouch Punch: Down & Low Punch
Roundhouse Kick: Back & High Kick
Leg Sweep: Back & Low Kick
Crouch Kick(High): Down & High Kick
Crouch Kick(Low): Down & Low Kick

Specialty Punch: High Punch (when against opponent)
Knee: High or Low Kick (when against opponent)
Throw: Forward & Low Punch (must be next to opponent)

** Stage Fatalities **

There are several Kombat Zones in which you may kill your opponent by making
him/her interact with the background. I will refrain from describing them and
let you see them for yourself. You will love them, I guarantee!

To kill your opponent on The Pit 3, the Subway, or Shao Kahn's Tower:

Forward - Forward - Forward - Run [do this when standing against the opponent]

(Remember not to uppercut your opponent on the Subway!)

** Mercy **

Instead of killing your opponent, you can give them a little extra energy (so
you can beat them again! Excellent!). This is necessary if you want to do
your Animality on the victim. See the Kombatants section for more info on the
Animalities. Showing mercy on your opponent is only possible in the third
round.

To show mercy:

Down - Down - Down - Down - Run [may be done anywhere on the screen]

* Note: Some people have found that it is not possible to do this within
attacking distance of the opponent. Presumably, this is due to the fact that
it would be far too easy to beat the opponent again after showing mercy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
				The Kombatants
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This section contains all pertinent information for each character: his/her
attract mode bio, special moves, and various finishing moves. The finishing
moves include a brief description, as well as info on where to do them. The
distance to perform a finishing move (fatality, animality, etc.) is in brackets
[] immediately after the joystick movement is given. If no distance is given,
assume you may be anywhere on the screen.

Any move which has not been confirmed is noted by a (?).

Note: In order to perform an Animality on a victim, you must be in the third
round and have had Mercy on your victim.

1.0, so you must morph into Cyrax after showing mercy
with Shang Tsung for this to works properly.

************
** Sektor **
************

Sektor is actually the code name for unit LK-9T9. He was the first of three
prototype cybernetic ninjas built by the Lin Kuei. Sektor was once a human
assassin trained by the Lin Kuei. He volunteered for automation because of his
loyalty to the clan. Sektor survives the Outworld invasion because he has no
soul to take.

			big surprise!)

************
** Sheeva **
************

She was handpicked by Shao Kahn to serve as Sindel's personal protector. She

***********

As a chosen warrior, his identity is a mystery to all. It is believed he is a
survivor of an attack by Shao Kahn's extermination squads. As a result, he is

an end to Shao Kahn's conquest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
			       Secret Kombatants
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-= Getting to Them =-

** Smoke **

Smoke is the third Robo-ninja! He randomly (as far as we know) appears in the
middle box on the Kombatant selection screen and is only selectable using
Random Select. According to some posts (this is still not confirmed), the
selector box must land on the center box *before* Smoke revolves into view.
Note that Smoke only appears sometimes, rumored to be after every five matches
or so.

Manic from IRC #mk3 claims to have seen a "Smoke Chosen:" section in the audits
menu of the game. Who knows what is possible...?

** Noob Saibot **

Noob is no longer a ninja. He is now a shadow of Kano! So far the only way to
fight Noob Saibot is to a certain Kombat Kode, which is not known for the
release version. Then the winner of the first round will fight Noob.
Good luck!

-= Playing Them =-

** Smoke **

Fork/Spear Throw:(?)	Back - Back - Low Punch (Yes, Scorpion fans, it's back!)

It is also rumored that Smoke can disappear, similar to Reptile in MK2.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
			   Non-Playable Kombatants
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** Motaro **

Motaro is the half-man-half-horse Boss. He is the next-to-last Boss; you fight
him before going on to fight Shao Kahn.

Motaro is a Centaur, which is a mythological half-man-half-horse being. He has
three horns. He has a metal tail which is used to trip his opponent with, can
shoot numerous fireballs, reflects projectiles, and even has a grab similar to
Goro's old one; he picks his opponent up with one hand and uses the other to
smack the Kombatant across the screen. Motaro also has a teleport move, where
he fazes out and then fazes back in across the screen.

Several people have been able to beat him using Liu Kang and his Low Dragon
Fire. This appears to be some sort of bug.

** Shao Kahn **

Shao Kahn is once again the master of the tournament. His new moves include a
green fireball that comes from his head (apparently his green arrow was taken
out), a dizzying sledgehammer hit (he taunts you while you are dizzy), and a
shadow knee move similar to his old shadow shoulder smash. Kahn taunts his
mortal opponent with sayings like "Still trying to win?" etc. Several people
have said he is not very difficult to beat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
				    Kombos
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, some of the individual kombos are blatantly taken straight from Matt Kruse.
I have neither the time nor the money to check each of these out, so use them at
your own risk. Actually, they probably work, but I really can't explain them
very well.

The kombos are listed with the notation used above (i.e., Roundhouse Kick means
Back & High Kick). See the Kommon Attacks section for more info.

** Kombat Kodes **

On the two player "Vs." screen that appears before each battle, six boxes are
displayed on the bottom of the screen. The three boxes on the left are
controlled by player one, and likewise the three boxes on the right are
controlled by player two. Various symbols appear in these boxes, and can be
changed by pressing the button corresponding to each box. Different
combinations of symbols give different attributes for the battle, such as no
throwing, handicapping, etc.

The boxes are controlled like this: the Low Punch button controls the leftmost
box for the player. That is, player one's Low Punch button changes the symbol
in the box on the far left, and player two's Low Punch button changes the symbol
in the fourth box from the left. Block changes the symbol in each player's
center box, and low kick controls each player's rightmost box.

Here are the possible symbols (in order of appearance):

Dragon
MK
Yin Yang
3 <-- The new logo
?
Lightning Bolt
Goro
Raiden
Shao Kahn
Skull

** You may also hold Up on the joystick and press the button. This reverses the
   order of the symbols.

Here are some Kombat Kodes and the attributes they produce in battle:

* Note: The number of button presses required for each symbol in the Kode is
listed under the Kode in {} brackets.

- Random Kombat -

(Unknown for Version 1.0)

This causes the Kombatants to morph into *other* Kombatants every few seconds.
There is no control over the morphing. What a feature!

- Winner Fights ... -

There are several "kombinations" that will allow the winner of the first round
to fight certain other Kombatants. The loser of the first round must continue
if he wants to play after the winner fights the specified Kombatant. Another
cool feature.

The Winner Fights Kombinations are:

(Unknown for Version 1.0) : Winner fights Motaro

(Unknown for Version 1.0) : Winner fights Noob Saibot

Dragon - 3 - 3 - Lightning Bolt - Goro - ? : Winner fights Shao Kahn
{0 - 3 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 4}

- Disable Throws -

MK - Dragon - Dragon - MK - Dragon - Dragon
{1 - 0 - 0 - 1 - 0 - 0}

Obviously, this disables all throwing.

- Disable Blocking -

Dragon - Yin Yang - Dragon - Dragon - Yin Yang - Dragon
{0 - 2 - 0 - 0 - 2 - 0}

Disables blocking. You can still press block and put your kombatant in a block
stance, but any hits will connect.

- Invisible Power Bar -

Skull - Shao Kahn - Raiden - MK - Yin Yang - 3
{9 - 8 - 7 - 1 - 2 - 3}

This makes the power bar invisible. Makes for a very interesting match...

** Random Select **

Selecting a character at random is again possible in MK3. It is performed just
as in MK2, by holding up on the joystick and pressing start. Remember to have
your selection box in its original position when doing this, or it won't work.

** Galaga **

Similar to Mortal Kombat II, there is a "classic" video game included in Mortal
Kombat 3. No, it's not Pong Kombat, it's Galaga, the classic shooting game
where your ship can be picked up by the enemy, and then reclaimed later in the
game.

After reaching Battle 100 in a two player match, both players begin to play
Galaga with three ships each. After one person loses all three ships, Kombat
resumes.

		    Other Mortal Kombat Internet Resources
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several other resources for Mortal Kombat information are available around the
net. Here are a few.

** The WWW Mortal Kombat Pages **
http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/students/zcacaes/mk/mk.html

These pages are maintained by Antony Espindola. In my opinion, this is one of
the best resources. He updates it almost daily (especially since the Beta
version is out!) and has great pictures, as well as many links to other WWW
games sites. You can find info on practically any aspect of the game. Antony
is also a friend of Ed Boon's, or pen pal at least, and usually has pretty
reliable info. No rumors here, except in the Gossip section.
Note: Antony went on spring break from UCL on April 6, so he will not update
his pages until The first of May. Until then, check Matt Kruse's site (below)
for any information, and, as usual, read the FAQ!

** The Mortal Kombat III Home Page **
http://198.49.168.5/~mkruse/mk3/mk3.html

Maintained by Matt Kruse at St. Ambrose University, these pages are the ultimate
place to go to find the latest info on our favorite game. Highlights include
the graphical representation of moves, MK-related raytraced artwork by Matt,
and virtually all the MK3 FAQs. This one also gets emphatic recommendation.
Can you find the Secret Page? I can!

** The Best of Mortal Kombat WWW Pages **
http://www.nauticom.net/users/baraka/mk.html

These pages are maintained by Bill Laughner. He hasn't updated since April 12,
so what you find there may be a bit outdated.

** Sachin Pansuria's MK Web Pages **
http://www.cen.uiuc.edu/~pansuria/mk3faq.html

This is the MK3 HTML FAQ. Go here if you just want to check out a couple of
moves and don't want to have to wade through tons of other crap. Definitely
a good source.

http://www.cen.uiuc.edu/~pansuria/mk3.html

The Shao Kahn Page. A nice little place to check out if you want to see some
great sequences of fatalities and pictures in general. Keep up the good work,
Sachin.

** Rat's Nest **
http://www.mv.com/users/rat

Rat mainly has links on his home page, so you can use this as a way to get to
all the other MK Sites. He also has this FAQ posted there.

** Kombat Web **
http://icarus.uic.edu:80/~osengb1

This is the Kombat Web. There are plenty of nice links here. Definitely check
this one out. I haven't had much time to look at it, but what I saw looked
great.

** Game FAQs by FTP **
ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/vi/vidgames/faqs

Need a FAQ for a game? You can find it here. Can't find it here? It doesn't
exist. That pretty much says it all. Andy Eddy, Senior Editor of GamePro
magazine, has generously made his account at netcom available to the Internet
at large. Thanks, Andy!

** The Fighting Game Archive **
ftp://brawl.mindlink.net/pub/fighting

Here you can find all sorts of guides, trivia, fan fiction, pictures, fake
pictures (thanks, Jenn!), and just about anything you can think of relating to
fighting games in general. I'm not sure who maintains this site, but it's
pretty nice.

** Other FAQs **

You may wish to see a FAQ in a different format. there are a few others out
there on the Net, but for obvious reasons I am not advertising them here. There
are several other formats, namely those on Matt Kruse's MK3 Web Page. Here are
the writers; contact them for more information, or simply use your favorite web
browser to check out The Mortal Kombat III Home Page (listed above).
