Agenda/Outline for Scheduled Conference #2 on Gupta Forum:

Time: 4pm Pacific Time
Date: Monday, December 13, 1993
Place: Conference Room 3, "SQLWindows/Quest" of GUPTA Forum
MC/Host: Peter Hazlehurst, Phoenix International

1) Intro and welcome... a round-table of who's here... etc etc.

2) General discussion on what classes can do and how they might be used.
General talks on what you can do with them.

3) Outline the future of the (upcoming on-line SQLWin) course...
eg what I hope to cover at a later stage..

        - Creating object information stores
        - Creating the SQL foundation class
        - creating objects that use the foundations
        - Creating forms that can control the objects

4) The good stuff:

        a) Discussion of using Functional Classes as foundation classes to
provide support for all object classes.

        b) Naming conventions, and the importance of standards in Team
development; shielding the programmer from the class through a message
        and function based API (CORBA).

        c) Some constants and their uses

        d) Some general coding principles - eg how and when to use functions
        and messages.

        e) The basics. What do you want in a base functional class. I.e.
what functionality is common to all objects and could be inheritable.

        f) The trade-off Performance versus Good Structure and maintainability;
        Functions versus messages...

           f.i) Suggested inheritable variables

        g) Implementing the basic functionality through several functions:

This is the start... and we may just run a little over-time if so we will move
on to next week.

I hope this gives everyone a feel for what we are going to cover. Questions on
course structure and content are welcome. I will probably post little snippets
of code throughout the conference, and then will post summaries of up-to-know on
the forum a few days later for people to compare their work to.
