====================================================
Plus! For Windows 95 Build 106 Release Notes
====================================================

IMPORTANT ISSUES:
=================
Registry Corruption
===================
If you are running a Win95 build prior to 469, you may under
certain low conventional memory conditions see errors relating to
"Registry Corruption" or your net may not load. If you see this
error, try freeing up some conventional memory. One way to do this
is to load EMM386 /NOEMS and remove any unnecessary drivers that are
loaded at boot time. This problem should be fixed in Win95 build 469
and later.

Plus! requires a 486 or higher processor, 8MB of memory, and a display
that's capable of displaying at least 256 colors.  A high-color (16-bit)
display and sound card are recommended.

The DriveSpace 3 compression driver requires approximately 113k of
conventional memory. This will not affect the memory available to
MS-DOS applications running under Windows 95, but may affect programs
that run in MS-DOS (real) mode. If you are using DoubleSpace or
DriveSpace, or if you intend to use DriveSpace 3, and you need to run
memory intensive programs in MS-DOS mode, you should:
 - Try increasing conventional memory by using EMM386 noems, and by
   including the following line in your CONFIG.SYS file:

   DEVICEHIGH=C:\<Win95dir>\COMMAND\DRVSPACE.SYS /MOVE

   (Note: If DRVSPACE.SYS is already being loaded, but is using the
   /L:0 switch, try removing /L:0 if you're certain that your Upper
   Memory Blocks are configured properly.)

 - If you do the above, and still don't have enough memory in MS-DOS
   mode, boot without loading the real-mode compression driver (press
   F8 when you see "Starting Windows...", select the Interactive
   option, and answer N when asked whether you wish to load the
   DriveSpace (or DoubleSpace) driver, and then install the MS-DOS
   mode program to an uncompressed drive.

   (Note: You will not have access to any of your compressed drives
   until you reboot normally.)

If you do not want your existing compression driver updated to
DriveSpace 3, use custom mode and uncheck the DriveSpace 3 option.

Do not install Plus! if you are using Win 3.1 file system compatibility mode.

If you are installing to a compressed drive and you receive a "Not
enough disk space to install..." message during Setup, do not choose
the install anyway option. It may leave your system unstable.

When selecting a Desktop Theme, be sure to choose a "high-color" theme
only if your system is currenly configured for high-color display.
These themes will not display correctly on 256 color systems.

After installing Plus!, be sure to update your Windows 95 Startup
disk with the Plus! versions of DRVSPACE.BIN and SCANDISK.EXE by
copying these files from your Win95\command folder to your Startup
disk.

Uninstall and maintenance mode Setup (adding/removing components) are
NOT supported yet.

SAGE.DAT will be replaced if you are using Plus! build 105
or before due to a format change. If you are using Plus!
build 106 or later and already have System Agent installed,
your SAGE.DAT will NOT be overwritten.

You can run Plus! Setup on a system using a third party
disk compression. However, DriveSpace 3 will not be installed
until the third party disk compression is removed.

OTHER NOTES:
============
The Desktop Themes program can be found in the Control Panel.

Online Help for Plus! is available by clicking the "Microsoft Plus!
for Windows 95" book at the bottom of the Windows Help contents screen.

Pinball default flipper keys are 'Z' and '/'.

It's OK to upgrade to a later version of Win95 after installing Plus!,
even if you're using DriveSpace 3 compression. Also, please note that
if you do a CLEAN install of the new build of Win95, you'll also need
to reinstall Plus!.

KNOWN PROBLEMS:
===============
Registry Corruption
===================
This problem should be fixed in Win95 build 469
and later.

Themes
======
- Some of the Desktop Themes are incomplete. They may be lacking
  content or use incorrect files. Only the Nature, Science and Moderne
  themes include screen savers currently.

- If you use the 60's Theme you will need to copy the Windows95 default
  font to the 60's font or apply a font from another theme for now.
  The bold characters in the 60's font are not clear. This will be
  fixed in a later build.

- Some of the Themes wallpaper may appear 'blotchy' when previewed
  through the Theme Selector or the Desktop Display Properties
  background preview mode. This will be fixed in a later build.

Internet Explorer
=================

- Sometimes a page is loaded from the cache when it should be
  retrieved from a server - this happens mostly with pages which change
  content frequently. We are tuning the code which determines whether
  cached pages are stale. If you suspect you are getting stale
  information from the local cache, select "View/Refresh" to force a
  reload from the server.

- Shortcuts to Gopher server URLs are not automatically remembered
  in the History folder. You can remember Gopher server pages as
  shortcuts and keep them in your Favorites folder.

- Links to telnet and mail from within Internet Explorer are
  not yet supported.

- Compuserve's Internet PPP Dialer application does not work with
  Internet Explorer.

- Links are normally colored when visited. This release of Internet
  Explorer does not remember colored links between sessions; this will
  be fixed in a later release.

- If you are running Microsoft Network client software on an internal
  TCP/IP-only network, you may experience lengthy timeouts on client
  operations (such as 'net use') if you are connected to the Internet
  via a dial-out connection when you attempt Microsoft Network client
  operations. This is because server name resolution attempts are
  routed to the dial-out connection's DNS server first, and the name
  resolution may take some time to fail.

  Note that this problem occurs only while the Dial-Up Networking
  connection is make; once you hang up you will experience normal
  operations.

  To work around this problem, you should consider installing an
  additional network protocol on your internal network.

- To configure Internet Explorer to use a proxy server, you must
  edit the Windows '95 registry using the 'regedit' program.

For example:

You wish to configure Internet Explorer to use port 85 on server
http://proxy.mydom.com for proxy requests. You do not want
URLs within mydom.com to be satisfied by the proxy.

Set the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Services\Proxy_Server to have the string value
"http://proxy.mydom.com:85" (no quotes).

and set the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Services\No_Proxy to have the string value "mydom.com"
(no quotes).

  User interface to allow configuration of these settings without
  using the registry editor will be supplied in a later release.
