IBM* Ethernet Quad PeerMaster* Server Adapter
              Supplimental User Guide Information

-----------------------------------------------------------
          Quad-B2 PeerMaster Cabling Information
-----------------------------------------------------------

BNC T-connectors must be coupled to each active Quad-B2
PeerMaster port. It might not be possible to couple the
T-connectors directly to the adapter ports when multiple
adapters are installed in adjacent system bus slots.
The spacing between adjacent adapters is insufficient to
permit T-connectors (and the attached cables/terminators)
to be directly coupled to Quad-B2 ports. Thin Ethernet
pigtail cables are recommended to alieviate this problem.

A Pigtail cable is comprised of a BNC male connector
attached to each end of a three inch thin Ethernet coaxial
cable. The total length of the pigtail, including the two
male connectors, is roughly 5 inches. Pigtail cables are
used as follows:

  1. Couple the pigtail cables directly to the Quad-B2
     PeerMaster ports.

  2. Couple a BNC adapter (female-female) to the loose end
     of each pigtail cable.

  3. Couple the male connector of BNC T-connectors to the
     female-female adapters.

  4. Couple thin Ethernet coaxial cables or terminators to
the female connectors of the BNC T-connectors as
     required for your network.

------------------------------------------------------------
Using NETBEUI and NETBIOS Protocols with PeerMaster Adapters
------------------------------------------------------------

PeerMaster adapters permit connection of up to 24 Ethernet
segments to an IBM LAN Server. This places new levels of
stress on the server. It is recommended that the latest
versions of NETBEUI and NETBIOS protocols be used on your
server. Check the date of the following files:

     C:\IBMCOM\PROTOCOL\NETBEUI.OS2
     C:\IBMCOM\PROTOCOL\NETBIOS.OS2

Request an update of these files through your normal support
channel if they are dated prior to 11/22/94.

You might also want to performance tune your server. Refer to
the performance tuning information provided by your IBM LAN
Server documentation.
