UNDERSTANDING UNIVERSAL NAMING CONVENTION (UNC)

The Universal Naming Convention (UNC) is a method of accessing
network resources. UNC names are used primarily in MS Lan
Manager-based networks. The UNC path consists of a server name,
a volume name, and a path, \\servername\volume\path\path1\path2.

For example, on a Novell 3.11 network, you have a Server named
APPSERVER. On APPSERVER, you place all of your applications on
volume APPVOL. You can map each user's workstation to a drive
letter and APPSERVER\APPVOL:LOTUS\AMIPRO. With a UNC
path, any user can attach to APPSERVER using any drive letter
and access Ami Pro in \\appserver\appvol\lotus\amipro.

Node Install benefits the most from UNC path names because you only
need to specify the UNC path once, and all users have access to
Ami Pro. If you do not use UNC path names, you must specify
absolute path names and drive letters that exactly match each
user's map settings.

For more information about using UNC, refer to your network
documentation.

INSTALL OVERVIEW

You can install Ami Pro for OS/2 on any Local Area Network (LAN)
compatible with OS/2 version 2.x. UNC path names are supported
for node path names. Anywhere you can specify a node path name, you
can specify a UNC path name. In addition, Install supports the
OS/2 High Performance File System (HPFS).

You can access online Help by pressing F1 or choosing Help.

Ami Pro offers a flexible network installation. During
installation on the network server, you can specify default paths for
each user's macros, documents, style sheets, SmartIcons, or clip
art. You can specify paths on the network or on the user's local
workstation. If you specify paths on the network, you can decide
if each user accesses common network directories or their
individual user directories. You can decide whether the user can
edit the paths.

You can configure each user differently. For example, you can
configure all users in the Sales Department to share common
directories on the network. You can configure all users in the
Marketing Department to share common style sheets and macros
directories on the network, but to store other files locally.

During Install, you can specify the number of licenses you have
purchased for Ami Pro. Licenser determines how many concurrent
users can run Ami Pro from their workstations.

After installing Ami Pro on the network file server, there are
several methods of setting up each user's workstation
to run Ami Pro. You can use the Administrator's Node Install to
automate copying macros, documents, style sheets, SmartIcons, or
clip art to each user's node directory on the file server. You
can also instruct the users to run Node Install from their local
workstation and copy macros, documents, style sheets, SmartIcons,
or clip art from the network server; or you can run CID install.
(CID Install, like Administrator's Install, reduces the need for
user action at individual workstations. This is because the
program reads a response file. At SDM sites, users do not even
need to start the install; it is simply started by the
administrator from a central location. Otherwise, the users must
start it, but thereafter the program reads the response file.
See the section on CID Install for more details.)

     letter of that drive.

The Welcome to Install dialog box displays.

5. Choose Continue.

6. Specify your company name and your name and initials if
     prompted.

You must specify at least one character in each box.

7. Choose Install Ami Pro on server.

8. Choose the type of installation you want to perform--Complete
Ami Pro Install or Custom Ami Pro Install.

Lotus recommends choosing Complete Ami Pro Install unless your
server is short on disk space.

9. Specify the path to the network file server where you want to
install Ami Pro and choose OK.

     Install creates the directories \macros, \docs, \styles,
\icons, \drawsym, and \install below the path you specify.

     A message displays. Choose Continue.

10. Install searches for a LOTSHARE license directory.

If Install finds a LOTSHARE directory with active OS/2
licenses, a message displays. Choose OK.

If Install finds a LOTSHARE directory without active OS/2
licenses, specify the number of licenses you purchased and
     choose OK.

If Install does not find a LOTSHARE directory, specify a
network drive letter and the number of licenses you purchased.
     Choose OK.

NOTE: LOTSHARE must appear as a root directory to all users.

You can manage the licenses using the Windows-based Licenser
utility located in \AMIPRO\INSTALL (or the path you specified
     in Step 9).

For additional information on Licenser, start Licenser and
     choose Help.

     A message displays.

11. In this step, you have a choice of two actions.
To copy the Ami Pro program files to the network file server,

     OR
To customize nodes, choose Customize Node to specify default
paths for the user Node Install and CID Install.

12. Specify the default Ami Pro path for the user Node Install.
The user must have Read-Write-Create-Delete-Attribute rights
     to the directory you specify.

If you want Node Install or CID Install to determine the
default path, leave the path blank.

If you do not want Node Install or CID Install to determine
the default path, specify either a local directory on the
user's workstation or the user's node directory on the
     network server.

Select User editable if you want Node Install to allow the
user to overwrite the default path.

NOTE: This path is not used by the Administrator's Node
     Install.

13. Choose Additional User Paths to specify default paths for
macros, documents, style sheets, SmartIcons, or clip art. The
user must have Read-Write-Create-Delete-Attribute rights to
     the directories you specify.

If you want Node Install or CID Install to determine a
default path, leave the path blank.

If you do not want Node Install or CID Install to determine
a default path, specify either a local directory on the user's
workstation, the user's node directory on the network server,
or a shared public directory on the network server.

Select User editable if you want Node Install to allow the
user to overwrite a default path or if you want CID Install
     to overwrite a default path.

Select Use server path if you want Node Install or CID Install
to provide the user access to a common network directory.

NOTE: These paths are not used by the Administrator's Node
     Install.

Choose OK to return to the Customize Node Install Paths dialog
     box.

14. Choose Install.

Install copies the Ami Pro program files to the network file
     server and displays a message.

15. Choose OK.

16. Set up each individual user's workstation to run Ami Pro
     using the Administrator's Node Install
     OR
Instruct users to run Node Install from their local
     workstations
     OR
Set up a response file and then run CID Install.

ADMINISTRATOR'S NODE INSTALL

After you install Ami Pro on the network file server, you can use
the Administrator's Node Install to automate copying macros,
documents, style sheets, SmartIcons, or clip art to each user's
node directory.

If you want to install each user's node from a local workstation,
do either of the following instead of the Administrator's Node Install:
(1) Run Node Install, which requires action at each workstation,
or (2) Run CID Install. CID Install, like Administrator's Install,
reduces the need for user action at individual workstations.
This is because the program reads a response file. At SDM sites,
users do not even need to start the install; it is simply started by the
administrator from a central location. Otherwise, the users must
start it, but thereafter the program reads the response file.

See the USER'S NODE INSTALL section and the CID INSTALL section for
further details.

NOTE: If you run Administrator's Node Install, do not run Node
Install or CID Install for the same users. You can run Administrator's
Node Install for some users and Node Install or CID Install for others.

     QUICK START:

     1. Run Server Install.
See the section titled INSTALLING AMI PRO ON A NETWORK SERVER.

     2. Start Administrator's Node Install.

     3. Create a default path name template.

     4. Add user names to the Install List.

     5. Install node copies of Ami Pro for all users in the
          Install List.

     6. Instruct the users to install the Ami Pro icon on their
desktops. (Each user will need to run ICONINST.EXE, which
may be found in the install directory on the Amipro server.)

Make sure users have Read-Write-Create-Delete-Attribute
permission to any directories where shared documents are stored.

1. Start OS/2.

2. Open an OS/2 Command Prompt Window.

3. Type cd\amipro\install and press ENTER.

If you specified another path during Install, substitute the
     name of that path.

4. Type NETINST and press ENTER.

The "Welcome to the Administrator's Node Install" dialog box
     displays.

5. Choose Continue.

6. Create a default path name template to use when adding user
     names to the Install List.

You can modify the template when you create the Install List
in order to create groups of user nodes with different paths.

You can choose Reset to restore the default settings.

Specify System Administrator Paths as they appear to the
     system administrator.

If you specify UNC path names, you do not have to specify
          User Mapped Paths.

You can use the ? character to specify a wildcard for a
portion of the path name. When you create the Install
List, you can specify the subdirectory to use in place of
the wildcard. For example, you can specify a path of
f:\user\?\amipro. When you add George Bailey to the
Install List, you can specify gbailey as the replacement
for ?. When you add Amanda Wingfield to the Install List,
you can specify awingfield as the replacement for ?.

Specify Users Mapped Paths as they appear on the user's
     workstation.

If you specify UNC path names for System Administrator
Paths, or if the administrator is mapped the same way as
the user, you can delete the path names from the user-
mapped paths column in the template.

You can use the ? character to specify a wildcard for a
          portion of the path name.

7. Choose OK.

8. Choose Add Users to Install List.

The System Administrator Paths and Users Mapped Paths you
     specified for Create Template display.

Specify the User's Name. For example, George Bailey.

Specify the replacement for the ? wildcard character. For
     example, gbailey.

You must specify at least one character in the ? text box
before you can edit the user's paths in the Install Template.

Choose Clear if you want to restore the default settings to
     the Install Template.

Choose Add to add the user's name and path information to the
     Install List.

Choose Edit Template if you want to modify the template for
the next group of user names.

9. Choose Main Menu when you finish adding user names.

10. Choose Install User Nodes.

The user Install List cannot be modified from Administrator's
Node Install. See Hints & Tips for information on modifying
     the Install List.

11. Choose Start Install.

Administrator's Node Install creates node copies of Ami Pro
for all users in the Install List.

NOTE: Administrator's Node Install does not stop or display
any error information. You should view the ERRORLOG.TXT file
in the INSTALL directory to determine if Administrator's Node
Install successfully created nodes for all users.

A message displays when Install is complete.

12. Choose OK.

13. Choose Save and Exit from the Main Menu.

14. You can instruct each user to run Icon Install (ICONINST.EXE)
to create the Ami Pro icon on his or her desktop, or you can
include Icon Install in a login script.

Icon Install checks for an existing Ami Pro icon. If an icon
is found, Icon Install exits immediately and does not create
     another icon.

You can run Icon Install with a "-n" option if you do
not want to check for an existing icon.

You can run Icon Install with a "-x" option if you do not
want to add an icon but want Icon Install to create OS/2
template files and update system settings.

You can give users the following instructions:

     1. Start OS/2.

     2. Open an OS/2 Command Prompt Window.

     3. Type cd\amipro\install and press ENTER.

(If you specified another path during Install, substitute
          the name of that path.)

     4. Type ICONINST and press ENTER.

     5. Select your name from the list.

     6. Choose OK.

          A message displays.

     7. Choose OK.

You can now follow the instructions in the User's Guide
          for starting Ami Pro.

On MS Lan Manager-based networks, you can also include the
Install Icon program in a logon script. On a Lan Server, you can
include Node Install in a Public OS/2 Applications Panel.

USER'S NODE INSTALL

After you install Ami Pro on the server, the users can run Node
Install from their local workstations and copy macros, documents,
style sheets, SmartIcons, or clip art from the network server.

If you want to install each user's node from the network, run
Administrator's Node Install or CID Install instead of User's Node
Install. User's Node Install must be run from the user's
workstation.

See the ADMINISTRATOR'S NODE INSTALL and CID INSTALL sections for
more details.

NOTE: If you want a user to run Node Install, do not run
Administrator's Node Install or CID Install for the same user. You
can run Administrator's Node Install for some users and Node
Install or CID Install for others.

     QUICK START:

     1. From the administrator's station:
          Run Server Install.
See the INSTALLING AMI PRO ON A NETWORK SERVER section.

     2. From the user's workstation:
          - Start Node Install.
          - Specify your name.
          - Specify paths if required.

The following instructions are written for the user running
Node Install from a local workstation. You can modify the
instructions to make them specific to your site if necessary.

1. Start OS/2.

2. Open an OS/2 Command Prompt Window.

3. Type cd\amipro\install and press ENTER.

(If you specified another path during Install, substitute
     the name of that path.)

4. Type INSTALL and press ENTER.

The Welcome to Install dialog box displays.

5. Choose Continue.

6. Specify your name and choose OK.

NOTE: In the following steps, if you cannot change a path,
it may be because when the administrator installed the
server, he or she customized the node install such that
certain paths were not editable by the node installer.

7. Specify the path where you want the Ami Pro program files
     stored and choose OK.

You can specify any directory that you have full access to,
either on the network or on your local workstation.

8. Specify paths for macros, documents, style sheets,
SmartIcons, and clip art and choose OK.

You can specify any directory that you have full access to,
either on the network or on your local workstation.

     A message displays.

9. Choose OK.

You can now follow the instructions in the User's Guide for
     starting Ami Pro.

CID NODE INSTALL

After you install Ami Pro on the network file server, you can use
the Administrator's Node Install to automate copying macros,
documents, style sheets, SmartIcons, or clip art to each user's
node directory.

If you want to install each user's node from a local workstation,
do either of the following instead of the Administrator's Node Install:
(1) Run Node Install, which requires action at each workstation,
or (2) Run CID (Configuration, Installation, and Distribution)
Install, which, like Administrator's Install, reduces the need for
user action at individual workstations. This is because the
program reads a response file. At SDM sites, users do not even
need to start the install; it is simply started by the
administrator from a central location. Otherwise, the users must
start it, but thereafter the program reads the response file.
Details now follow.

NOTE: If you run CID Install, do not run Node Install or Administrator's
Node Install for the same users. You can run Administrator's
Node Install for some users and Node Install or CID Install for others.
See the ADMINISTRATOR'S NODE INSTALL and USER NODE INSTALL sections for
more details.

     QUICK START:

     1. Create all general and specific response files.
See RESPONSE FILE GUIDELINES in this section for details.

     2. Run Server Install.
See the section titled INSTALLING AMI PRO ON A NETWORK SERVER.

     3. Start Node Install with CID parameters.

The following instructions are written for the user running CID
Install from a local workstation. You can modify the
instructions to make them specific to your site if necessary.

1. Start OS/2.

2. Open an OS/2 Command Prompt Window.

3. Type cd\amipro\install and press ENTER.

(If you specified another path during Install, substitute
     the name of that path.)

4. Type INSTALL /R:<specific response file name> <options> ENTER

     Options are:
     ------------
     /G: <path to general response file>
/S: <full path to Ami Pro server install directory>
Note: Required only if the installation is being run
from a directory other than the install directory on
            the Ami Pro server.
/L1: <name of file where history will be stored>
/L2: <name of file where error messages will be stored>
Note: If this is omitted, error messages will be written
          to a file named AMICID.ERR

     Example:
     --------
     INSTALL /R:USER.RSP /G:T:\LOTUS\PRODUCTS\AMIPRO\RESPONSE
     /S:T:\LOTUS\AMIPRO\INSTALL /L1: HISTORY.TXT /L2:ERRORS.TXT ENTER

The install program will be run without visible display. Check
the history log file and error log file to make sure the install
     program ran successfully.

You can now follow the instructions in the User's Guide for
     starting Ami Pro.

RESPONSE FILE GUIDELINES

In order to use the CID Install, you need to set up a response file.
See your CID manual for complete details. A sample response file,
AMINODE.RSP, may be found in the install directory on disk 1 of the
install program. You can edit it to suit your needs.

Some response-file guidelines now follow.

B. Response file syntax
------------------------

The following rules govern response-file syntax:

* The maximum line length in a response file is 255 chars.
* If an "include" is found and the included file cannot be found or
opened, then an error is returned and processing of the response
  files ends.
* An included response file is processed as soon as it is reached.
* A comment is one of the following: a line with no printable
characters, a line whose first printable character is a '*',
or a line whose first printable char is a ';'.
* A line that is not a comment or an "include" line is processed as
a keyword line. There is no penalty for having a keyword line
whose keyword does not correspond to a keyword that is defined
by this install. ##What happens to that keyword line?
* In processing an "include" line, the program does the following:
  1. It attempts to open with the filename that was specified on
      the include line.
  2. If /G: param was specified on the command line when the
installation program was run, the program uses its value as
the path and appends the filename that was found on the include
      line.
No other processing is done to try to find an "include" file.
If both methods fail, the "include" fails.

C. Return Codes
-------------------

   0000 = SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
0800 = SOURCE PATH NOT FOUND
   0804 = SHARING VIOLATION
   0808 = INSUFFICIENT RIGHTS
0812 = DATA PATH NOT FOUND
   0816 = PRODUCT NOT CONFIGURED
   1208 = NOT ENOUGH DISKSPACE
   1600 = INCORRECT USAGE
   1604 = SYSTEM ERROR

D. Creating a directory for the user's .INI files
-------------------------------------------------

If the response file does not contain the keyword Ami_INI_Dir--that is,
if the response file does not specify where the user files for Ami Pro
are to be stored--then the installation program will look in NODE.INI.
If no path is found there, then Ami Pro determines a default path.

E. Creating a directory for the user's
   docs/macros/icons/drawsym/styles files
-----------------------------------------

If the response file does not contain any of the following keywords:
Ami_Docs_Dir, Ami_Macros_Dir, Ami_Icons_Dir, Ami_Clipart_Dir, or
Ami_Styles_Dir--that is, if the response file does not specify where
the user's Ami Pro sample documents, Ami Pro sample macro's,
Ami Pro icons, Ami Pro clip art, and Ami Pro style sheets
are to be stored--then the installation program will look in NODE.INI.
If the appropriate paths are not found there, then Ami Pro determines
a default path.

INSTALLING AMI PRO ON SPECIFIC NETWORKS

Contact Banyan Vines for an update to the OS/2 redirector before
installing to the Server. Banyon Vines does not support UNC.

IBM LAN Server 3.0 requires ServicePak - IP07001 prior to
running Ami Pro for OS/2.

Novell supports HPFS only if you are running the OS/2 Name
Service.

HINTS & TIPS

Install copies READNET.TXT to the \amipro\install directory
so you can use it without accessing the original program disks.

The Administrator's Node Install creates a file called
USERLIST.TXT. You can use any text editor to modify the
USERLIST.TXT file. You can modify existing users, add new users,
or delete users.

NOTE: Administrator's Node Install always installs to all users
in USERLIST.TXT. If you wish to install in groups and maintain
the groups for future upgrades, you can move or rename this file.

If users cannot access shared documents on the network,
make sure they have Read-Write-Create-Delete-Attribute permissions
to the directory.

If users receive errors that Ami Pro cannot find style sheets
and no path names display in the User Setup Paths dialog box,
make sure their Ami Pro icon Settings are correct. Verify that
the Path and file name setting is the path to the AMIPRO.EXE
file on the network. The Parameters setting should have i
equal the path name to the user's INI files. For example,
-i="f:\user\gbailey".

To create a distribution server on the network, copy all files
from the Ami Pro Install diskettes to one directory on the
network file server. If you create separate directories for
each disk, Install prompts you to change disks.

Install creates hidden files to prevent users from overwriting
files during Node Install. If you create other directories for
users to share, and do not want these directories updated
during Node Install, copy the appropriate files.

For example, for a document directory, copy or create the file
"DOCS.DIR," for macros "MACROS.DIR," for styles "STYLES.DIR,"
etc.

If you need to update Ami Pro for OS/2, install the update on the
server, then instruct users to run INSTALL.EXE from the
\amipro\install directory.

Whenever you specify a user directory for documents and macros,
you can specify multiple path names. Only the first path in the
list displays in the list boxes, but Ami Pro searches all paths
listed for a specified file. For example,
c:\amipro.os2\docs;\\bigserver\sys\lotus\company.doc;g:\thay\toddsdocs.
