There are two ways to go about intalling Pennello: automatic and manual.
Automatic install will read your 3ds.set file and put the Pennello files
in the appropriate directories, while manual is just a matter of copying
the few files you really NEED.

The automatic install will NOT modify your 3ds.set, so you may need
to add the brush directory to your map paths, unless you've chosen a
directory already on the MAP-PATH list.

The "XAOS" directory MUST be in the directory pointed to by the
IMAGE-PATH parameter in the 3ds.set file. The 3ds default for this is the
"3ds3\images" directory. If you edit yor 3ds.set file so that your
IMAGE-PATH parameter points to a different directory, that directory is
where your "XAOS" directory must go. If your "XAOS" directory
is not in the directory pointed to by your 3ds.set IMAGE-PATH parameter,
you will not be able to launch Pennello.

The Pennello UI requires that your 3ds MAIN-DISPLAY be configured for
800x600 resolution, or higher. So after installing Pennello, you'll
need to run vibcfg or whichever configuration utility you use
to verify that your MAIN-DISPLAY setting is correct.

Also, the tutor5.prj file used in the Pennello tutorial will be installed
into your "XAOS", and not your 3D Studio "projects" directory. Move it to
your "projects" directory if you wish.

Automatic Installation:

Slip disk one into your floppy drive, then change to the proper drive
by typing its letter with a colon, A: or B:

Type "install."

Direct the install program to your 3ds.set file. If it is not in the
default (3ds root) directory, then click install and stand back.

Manual Installation:

If you're comfortable with manually copying the files, here is where
they need to go.

First you need to make a few directories.

Assuming default installation, with the 3ds.set IMAGE-PATH parameter
set to "images", you need the following:

c:\3ds3\images\xaos holds our .set, and misc text files
c:\3ds3\images\xaos\swap holds runtime swap files, see below

Then copy:

pnlo_i.ixp to the "process" directory (or directory indicated by
				 your 3ds.set PROCESS-PATH parameter.)

*.rap to the "matlibs" directory (or directory indicated by,
				 your 3ds.set MAT-PATH parameter.)
				 These are pennello effect libraries.

brush images to anywhere in the MAP-PATHS. It is suggested that you
create a "brushes" directory, and copy all
				 the brush files to it.

Definitions:

Effect Library, *.rap
These hold Pennello effect settings, and must be in the 3ds MATLIBS
directory. These files will also contain the names of any brushes
you use in your effects, so if you've created new brushes, and you
want to move the effects to another machine, you MUST also copy the
    brush image files!

Brush Image
An image file of any format readable by 3d Studio, including flcs.
We've included many brushes to choose from, but by all means
experiment and create your own! Brush files can be no larger than
    512x512.

Pennello.set
This file contains the preferences you specify in the Preferences
dialog of the UI. Only the preferences that are different from
the Pennello defaults will be stored here, and a new file will
be created on startup if one does not exist. You may edit this
file with a text editor if you really want to, but there shouldn't
    be a need to.

Active.rap
When you open up a Pennello session and load a library, it is copied
to active.rap in the "SWAP" directory. This is where all your changes
are made, and they are temporary until you explicitly save the
    library again.

*.tmp
During a vpost render, between each frame, the brush settings from
the last frame may be stored in a .tmp file in the SWAP directory.
This is to allow damping and blending. The filenames are unique,
so multiple renders (simultaneous Pennello instances) will not affect
each other. In the unlikely event of a water landing, these files
may be manually deleted from the dos prompt.
