                          DiaLOCK version 3.50
                              Upgrade Notes

The following is a description of the improvements and innovations found in
version 3.50. It should be read by all users upgrading from earlier versions.
It also contains information useful to people that are new to DiaLOCK.

Ŀ
Windows module : (Improvement and innovation)

Summary: The Windows' screen saver has been improved and a
user interface is now available under Windows.

        DBSAVER.EXE
The Screen Off under Windows can now be parametered through
the FILE menu to allow the selection of several different
        screen savers:

        - Lines : lines on black screen
        - Scrambles : scrambles the screen
        - Logo : bitmaps available in the LSM\WINDOWS directory
                (DIALOCK.BMP by default)

        DBSAVER.EXE
The new user interface includes various icons that allow
the user to execute under Windows functions such as :
        - password modifications
        - screen saver activation
        - user menu display and activation
        - station reboot
        - information on the user
        - wipefile activation
        - encryption activation

Ŀ
 Network module: (Improvement)

Summary: The new network module provides valuable tools for
                 automating network maintenance functions.

The DiaLOCK network module now provides:
        - automatic product installation on a station from the server
        - automatic transfer of user rights
        - automatic update of user rights
        - audit of all remote PC configurations
        - centralization of all audit files on the server
        - automatic inventory of all station hardware and software
        - automatic update of passwords
        - automatic network login
These functions are found in the NETWORK CENTRALIZATION section
        of the FILE menu.

        Password modification
        ---------------------
Note: This function is reserved for users of Novell 3.X or newer.
It allows new passwords that have been modified in LSM on a local
station to be transferred to the network.

DBUPDATE allows password deployment on all the stations. If a user
changes his password on a station, this password will automatically
be updated on all the work stations when these same stations
reconnect to the network. If a Manager wants to modify a user
password, he will have to connect to the network and modify it
from the server (SYSCON Novell 3.x, NetAdmin Novell 4.X).

The following table lists new or modified utility programs found in
the \LSM\TOOLS directory and their current function:
NET_NUM.EXE Used to reference the different network stations
                        (Novell networks only)
NET_NUMS.EXE Used to reference the different network stations
                        (other networks)
DBUPDATE.EXE Used to update the station reference base
        DBSCRIPT.COM Generates the DBLOGIN.EXE program (from DBSCRIPT.TXT)
                        for automatic server login
DBEXIT.EXE Activates or deactivates all DiaLOCK controls
during the session of an executable program.
Example: A manager wants to install a program update
from the server onto several stations that are read
and write protected. He can use this command in the
login script to deprotect all stations at the same
time, install the new software, and reactive system
protection. This option prevents the Manager from
having to deprotect each station manually.
NUM_INFO.EXE This command is a utility program for network
installation. It will supply the network card serial
serial number. This number is used to record stations
with DiaLOCK. It will supply the Novell version used.
The server name to which you are connected. The user
			name connected to the server.

Copy of user rights : (Innovation)

Summary: It is now possible to copy rights directly from one user
        to another.

To copy user rights to another user:
        - Use the arrow keys to highlight the "source" user
        - Press "+" (the user name will change color; pressing "+" again
          will deactivate the selection)
        - Use the arrow keys to highlight the "target" user
        - Press INSERT to copy the rights of the source user to those
          of the target.

Ŀ
 Automatic identification : (Improvement)

Summary: DiaLOCK now allows the option of creating self service
        workstations.

        Self service stations don't require a specific user identification;
they automatically allow access to a default set of system resources.
Stations can be configured to provide a different default resource
profile based on time and date.

Here are two examples to illustrate this new option:

        1) New users or visitors could be allowed access to a very limited
set of programs or commands, or simply given instructions for
obtaining additional rights. Instructions could refer the user
to the appropriate department or supervisor, or advanced batch file
techniques could be used to actually pose questions to the user.
Recorded information would then help automate the application process.

        2) Default configurations can be defined for different times and
dates, making it possible to configure a workstation to correspond
to the needs of different classes or work periods. A class beginning
at 9:00 may need access to only word processing tools, while a 10:00
class may require statistical analysis applications.

Ŀ
 System security : (Innovation)

Summary: New menu options make it easier to assign user rights and
        improve system security.

A new MAIN menu option, AFFECT USER RIGHTS, is now available to :
        - control the end of a Windows execution (the Manager can require
that the user types a password before returning to DOS)
        - to render protected files visible or not
        - to forbid drive execution
        - to forbid hard disk format
        - to encrypt user rights that have been saved in memory (this
option encrypts the current user rights to forbid any other program
        from displaying them)
        - to protect key diskettes (to prevent users from copying a key
key diskette and obtaining the same rights)
        - to forbid the user from quitting the user menu
        - to forbid modification of file attributes
        - to control low level writing (added protection against viruses
and to protect files against utility programs such as PCTools
          or NORTON).

Ŀ
 Directories : (Innovation)

Summary: This new option provides more flexibility in managing
        system files.

In the PARAMETER menu, the DIRECTORY option allows you to modify
the backup path for the installation of system and Windows files.

Ŀ
 SOS : (improvement and innovation)

The SOS procedure described in the manual is no longer available.
For an SOS procedure with a 3.50 version or better, you must boot
on the DiaLOCK installation diskette. An SOS screen will be displayed.
You must then modify the date and time if necessary. Indicate the GMT
hour. You will then need a DIGIPASS calculator to access the SOS menu.
Please call our Hot Line service. The menu allows :
	1/ Boot on diskette
	2/ Boot on hard disk
	3/ System deprotection
	4/ Disk startup reinitialization
	5/ Disk unencryption
