1995 IROC (International Race of Champions) XIX

HI, thank you ALL for choosing this Limited Edition 1995 International Race Of Champions (IROC XIX) Commertative Car-Set. I have a bunch of info to detail, please stay with me here, I promise you it's worth the tedious read. What follows are ALL the details about this Special Set. And a few surprises as well.

REMEMBER: If this info is TOO Detailed, just ask in the Motorsports forum, you'll be sure to get an answer. If you follow the instructions EXACTLY as outlined, you won't go wrong.

This set is based on the drawn starting order at the Daytona IROC race, Feb. 17/95. Since each race holds a draw for cars, and starting positions, the car/name/starting position is subject to change from race-to-race.

Enclosed you will find:

1 - IROC95.DAT - this is your car file. If you CHANGE the name of your main directory from IROC95, YOU MUST change the name of this file to match it EXACTLY! Otherwise, you carset WILL NOT load. PERIOD.

1 - LOADINST.TXT for those of you in need of loading instructions: "How to" load this set into your NASCAR files.

1 - IROC carset of 12 authentic Dodge Avengers - equally prepared, lettered, numbered, as per the 1st 1995 IROC race in Daytona. All other (23) cars "whited-out" as phantom or "SPARE" non-cars.

1 - IROCPace.pcx copy of the pace car

12 - 95IROC#.pcx - a copy of each car WITHOUT the names in case you wish to follow each of the 4 IROC 1995 races and change the driver name/car/starting order, as per each races' draw.

1 - whirocde.pcx - a set of white name decals to affix to those cars who have the white IROC decal set - use NASCAR Paintkit to cut/paste and you could use the 12 IROC cars with no names affixed on them.

1 - blkirocd.pcx - a set of black name decals to affix to those cars who have the black IROC decal set - use NASCAR Paintkit to cut/paste and you could use the 12 IROC cars with no names affixed on them.

3 - IROC spares which fill the NASCAR intro screen, otherwise there would be 3 phantom cars during the NASCAR opening... looks out of place. So I made 3 more cars. (#'s 14, 15, and 16 are FICTICIOUS IROC cars to round out the field and those colours were selected based on those missing from the 1995 line-up.)

1 - your race car = black #13. You can add you name since I left that blank. IROC is missing a black car, and since black is so popular, I made 2 black cars. #13 and #14. If you don't want to have #13 as you race car, perhaps you can "Swap" it with the #14 car?

1 - IROC.LST - a PCX listing of all the cars, use your text editor to access.

1 - copy each of: NCBoost, and NCBoost.Txt.
This allows you to "pump-up" the drivers2.txt file for more speed. Read the NCBoost.txt for details.

1 - std. Drivers2.txt which is an uneven rating as per the Daytona 95 race. Thanks to "gasman" for this suggestion!

1 - Evendrv2.txt - ALL DRIVERS RATED THE SAME.
To use, go into your C:\NASCAR\CARS\IROC95 directory, and rename your original drivers2.txt. Then rename your evendrv2.txt: drivers2.txt. (perhaps it's a good idea to make back-up original copies of these files in case something happens?)

7 - "I" files - these are press releases re: IROC announcements as found in CIS Keyword: Racing. Some of these files will require a text editor to open. (on my system, I go to MicroSoft Works, open file and select the file to view.)
_____________________________________________________________________
Prior to each IROC race, the drivers draw for both car AND starting position. Thus the reason for both the white and the black names decal set: for those of you who would like to follow the "draw system" for each and every IROC race, you can use the appropiate name decal to affix to the drawn car by THAT particular driver. Just make sure you "IMPORT" the blank cars named: 95IROC#.PCX into the proper spot in the carset. (For example, in the 1995 Darlington race, Mark Martin had the Lt. Blue #6 car, driven by Rusty Wallace at Daytona).

For those of you experienced with the PCX files, just re-name the files: Whirocde.pcx (white name decals), and Blkirocd.pcx (black name decals) to perhaps SLIP93.PCX and ETER88.PCX and import them into those 2 spots. You can then use your NASCAR Paintkit to Cut/Paste to the appropiate blank cars, once you've moved them into position in your IROC carset.

NOTE: If any of you are UNSURE about all this PCX file stuff, look for 2 files in Motorsports called: PCX HEL.ZIP (PCX HELP), by Chris Fredricks. It's dated around Feb./95 or late Jan./95. He's done an EXCELLENT job in explaining "how to" move cars around the car set universe.
Bill Kegel's EXCELLENT PCX LIST (PCXLST.ZIP) found in Motorsports around the same time as well, will print out from a text editor a listing of each car's place in the PCX-file. These 2 utilities have proven IMMEASUREABLE in using NASCAR properly. I can't imagine NASCAR WITHOUT these 2 handy dandy utilities! Thank you to both Chris AND Bill for your time and patience in writing these helpful utilities! It is much appreciated.

CONCIEVEABLY, you could end up with as many as 4 DIFFERENT IROC carsets this year, depending on the draw for each race.?? If you are so inclined ....
____________________________________________________________________
NOTE: May I suggest you first "back-up" you PCX files so you can have a set handy? I ALWAYS D/L a copy of a ZIP file to a floppy for future reference and so as NOT to fill up my hard drive. Backups ARE ALWAYS A GOOD PRACTICE.
Yes?

This set took a ton of time "sweating the details." The cars look like no others you've ever seen for a NASCAR set before, including my own WC - CARS95U.ZIP. I've attempted to emulate the swoopy lines of the 95 Dodge Avengers. Given the square and boxy platforms I had to work with, there are different lines to these cars. Kinda like trying to make jelly beans out of shoe boxes. I hope you'll agree that, given these limitations these cars look like the IROC cars. I attempted to also include the ground effects on the side of the cars, looks pretty close to the original, don't you think?

You may notice that the grilles on the IROC Dodge Avengers are NOT exactly as in real life. I had "ONE HECK" of a hard time trying to fit all the details on the cars, so I HAD to move the grilles "up" a little, and situate the grille BETWEEN the front headlamps INSTEAD of BELOW the front headlamp line. And since the noses are important, I did the best I could "fitting" all the detailS in. The grille had SEVERAL renditions before I settled on this one. I believe it captures the real Avenger grille "look".

A word about the graphics/ colours. Each car accurately reflects the original car. Due to space/program limitations, all the items exist on your IROC cars as they do in real life.
I ALWAYS shade cars to be distinctive and apart from one another. That way you can tell each car. Even though the real IROC race had 3 blue cars, a red and an orange car and a silver, and a white car, you CAN tell each one apart.

Due to limitations, "Goodyear" stickers are missing from the rear bumpers. The True Value logos were reduced somewhat to match the scale of the car. In some instances, the logo could not show all the detail, so it is adjusted accordingly. The IROC cars appeared to be "candy colours" in real life. The colours are matched as closely as possible to the real ones, using NASCAR Paintkit as the primary source, with some assistance provided by Windows Paintbrush, and Neopaint.
Fonts were mostly from Neopaint, Helga 13 pts OR Standard 13 pts.

"PLEASE NOTE: IF it could have been done any other way, believe me, it would be there."

All the suits in each car file are the same. The IROC pit crews for 1995 wear: white shirts, black pants, and red and blue shirt diagonal stripes. The IROC suits are based on pit crews' suits.
Again, given the limitations of NASCAR paintkit, I shaded the suits to match AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE. The drivers wear all white nomex racing suits.

The white dots in the RS H/lamp, in real life read: "AVENGER".

Behind the rear wheels, a sticker reads: "MOPAR PERFORMANCE", in real life.

All the graphics were converted to match the decal colour scheme of: white or black as on the real cars.

Numbers" and letters" styles were matched as closely as possible.

If any of you improve on this set, could you upload the imporvements into CIS Motorsports/Racing Circuits for the rest of us to enjoy? P-L-E-A-S-E?!

Also, you may see a red patch at the front of the door area, this would be an IROC decal which would normally be placed in the "ground effects" area of the car. The only problem I had with it was trying to make it "fit in" with the lines of the car - so I decided to make a seperate spot for it.

NOTE: "All of these cars are based on ABC-TV's broadcast of the 95 IROC Daytona race, which aired Mar. 12/95."

I "recommend" you change your opponents category for: 12 cars.

That way, you will not have any phantoms on the track. Just 12 IROC cars.

****If you DO NOT change this, both in Warm Up and Race modes you WILL have additional "white-out" cars runnung around. For my tastes, this defeats the whole purpose of this "Limited Edition set. "****

Or, if you prefer, set Opponents to 13, which adds my car - and race me as well (#14).

If you like this set and if I come up in your rear view mirror, move over and let me pass, OK? <G>
If, on the other hand you do not like this set, you can put me into the wall! Your choice. :-(
Or, you can remove my name from the car #14. Whatever you choose, this is your set now to enjoy.

There are 4 race dates in the 1995 IROC season. They are:

**LAPS/MILES **Race Date** **ABC-TV Broadcast Date**

40 laps/100miles Daytona Feb.17/95	Sunday, Mar.12/95 5 pm ET
73 laps/100miles Darlington Mar.25/95	Sunday, June 11/95 5 pm ET
37 laps/100miles Talladega, Apr. 29/95 Saturday, Aug. 5/954:30pmET
50 laps/100miles Michigan, July 29/95 Sunday, Aug. 13/955 pm ET

Check your "I" (IROC press release) files for details.

If you wish to follow the IROC lap/mile schedule do the following:

From NASCAR main screen, go to: "Realism" and select: "Race Length":

*Talladegona: set to: 20 % = 37 laps/100 miles*
 Darlington: set to: 25% = 73 laps/100 miles
 Talladega: set to: 20% = 37 laps/100 miles
 Michigan: set to: 25% = 50 laps/100 miles

** NOTE: *Since Daytona is NOT in the NASCAR sim, Talladega (Talladegona????) is the closest.*

I've been informed that it is possible to "edit" chassis names into the NASCAR sim. Being a HEX illerate myself, perhaps you could create a DODGE or Chrysler chassis category for this set? Now, there's a challenge for you.
If you can do this, would you be so kind as to provide me a copy of that adjusted file!?

I HAVE tried to RENAME the chassis in the Drivers2.txt - and this WILL show whatever chassis names you put there "UNTIL" you re-boot your computer and THEN the chassis' names ALWAYS go back to the default of: Chevy, Ford, Pontiac. (Hardly worth the effort each time you use NASCAR)
Otherwise all the cars are set to the Ford, Goodyear setting. Since Dodge is a non-GM car (Chev, Pontiac). What choice do I have?
________________________________________________________________________
** TIP ** Did you know:? that while racing in NASCAR, if you hit the "PRINT SCREEN" key, a PCX file: "NASCAR#.pcx" is created to print?
I've really enjoyed taking "pictures" out the (front window, only) while racing other cars. Try it, I am anxious to hear what you think about this?
________________________________________________________________________

Although I plead GUILTY on this myself, "according to IROC rules", we aren't "supposed" to have radio communications with the pits. And no spotters as well.
IN NASCAR, that's "supposed" to mean "NO" function key use in a race.

Now, I gotta admit it, that even during an IROC race, I've been "peeking" at the standings (F2), Fuel (F3), Tires (F4 &F5), just so addicted to those darned info thingmies that I can quit! Guilty as charged!

IDEA: Maybe NCAR will have a special series of NCAR-IROC races?

****Questions, comments, and most importantly - ANSWERS are Welcome - ALWAYS!****

Thank you to those who have sent me so many kind wordS about this set. I feel the effort IS worth it! It was a ton of work and I am definately glad it's finished!
I hope you enjoy it. See you on the track?!
