Novell Applications Group Problem Reporting Automation System

I. Installation

To facilitate the problem reporting process, Novell Applications
Group offers an easy-to-use program to automatically log your reports.
This program is contained in a self-extracting executable file
called--PROBZIP.EXE. To decompress the Problem Reporter program,
make a new directory (or use an existing one), copy the PROBZIP.EXE
file to that directory, and type "PROBZIP" from a DOS prompt. Once
you have done this, you will have seven files in your directory:

 1. PROBRPT.EXE (the reporting program)
 2. PROBRPT.HLP (Help file for PROBRPT.EXE)
 3. PROBRPT.DAT (necessary file to run the program)
 4. ZIPPER.PIF (necessary file to run the program)
 5. PKZIP.EXE (necessary file to run the program)
 6. PKUNZIP (necessary file to run the program)
 7. *.DAT (product specific file necessary for feature lists,
program names, etc. of each beta product that you are testing).

II. Adding Problem Reporter Icon to Program Manager

The Problem Reporter program is a utility for Windows only. To
setup the Problem Reporter as an icon in one of your program
groups (a program group is a collection or group of icons in a
window) enter the Window Program Manager and follow these steps:

 1. Select the program group (click on the top of the
group/window) in which you wish the Problem Reporter icon to
appear.

 2. Select New from the File pull-down menu in Program Manager.

 3. Choose Program Item and click OK

 4. Type in path to the program directory along with the program
name (PROBRPT.EXE) and press enter. (You may use the "Browse"
feature in the Run dialog to find PROBRPT.EXE. Check your Windows
manual or Help for more details.) The Program Reporter icon is
now in your designated group.

 5. To launch the program, double click on the Problem Reporter
icon.

III. Using Problem Reporter

The first time you enter Problem Reporter, you have four screens
of general information (concerning your specific computer
configuration) to complete:

 1. User Information
 2. Computer Information
 3. Peripherals Information
 4. Other Information

The data that is entered here is automatically stored and used
when you report problems (see "Preparing Your Reports for
Submission to Novell"). You may edit this information at a later
date by clicking the Previous Screen button, by choosing the Left
or Right arrow, or by selecting the screen choice you want from
the Windows pull-down menu option.

When completing the required data, please remember:

  - You may maneuver between fields with the Tab key and/or
mouse.

  - Please be as accurate and complete as possible when filling
in the required information.

  - Several of the items (like amount of hard drive space
available, or what mouse driver you are using) are automatically
detected and completed for you.

  - Please remember to keep this information current. If you get
a new computer during the beta process, update the information in
the appropriate fields. This information is sent to Novell with
your problem reports.

IV. Problem Information

The Problem Information screen will be the first screen to appear
when you enter Problem Reporter after you complete the four
general information screens. This screen consists of several
problem description fields to help the Novell Testing and Development
teams duplicate the specific problem you are encountering.

The fields on the Problem Information screen are:

 1. Program
 2. Feature
 3. Program Date
 4. Language (the program language)
 5. Problem/Enhancement
 6. Problem Type (System Crash, Data Loss, etc...)
 7. Problem Severity (Prevents Use, minimal hindrance, etc.)
 8. Duplicatable (Occurs Often, Rarely Occurs, etc.)
 9. Brief Description of Problem
 10. Steps to Duplicate, and Additional Detailed Information

V. Preparing Your Reports for Submission to Novell

Once you have completed your problem information on the Problem
Information screen, click on the "Save Report" button to save
your information. This will take you to the File Format dialog
box.

From the File Format dialog box you can:

 1. Save to send to Novell (compressed)
 2. Save for personal reference (ASCII)
 3. Cancel (returns you to the Problem Information screen).

You must select the Save to Send to Novell (Compressed) option
when submitting problem reports to Novell. By selecting this
option you will be compressing (via the PKZIP utility) your
report with the information you completed concerning your
computer and copies of your BAT, SYS and INI files.
