		            Instant Delphi
		       Notes for Companion Disk
		       ========================

Firstly, many thanks for purchasing a copy of 'Instant Delphi' !
I'm sure that - like me - you'll find Delphi to be one of the most
exciting and innovative Windows development systems around today.
My book is designed to get you up and running with Delphi as
quickly as possible.

Errata CHAPTER ONE - EXTRA TEXT
---------------------------------

You will find that a small chunk of text added to Chapter One will aid
you greatly in refining the action of the Icon Viewer Exercise in that chapter.
The extra text is included on this disk in two file
formats as CHAPTER1.TXT (a plain-vanilla text file) and CHAPTER1.WRI (a
Windows Write file). This text should appear immediately before the
section entitled "Using the FormCreate Event" on page 37 of the book.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and hope that these code fragments
will clarify the chapter section, and aid the creation of a bug free viewer !

Installing the Sample Projects
------------------------------

We've decided to package this disk along with the book so that you can
quickly try out the various sample programs that I've developed. There
are six chapters that contain fully working, sample applications and
you'll find a self-extracting archive file corresponding to each of the
chapters:

chapter1.exe
chapter2.exe
chapter3.exe
chapter4.exe
chapter7.exe
chaptr10.exe

For example, if you want to look at the Task Manager program from Chapter 2,
then you should copy the file 'chapter2.exe' to a directory of your choice.
You can then just run chapter2.exe from the DOS prompt and all the files
needed for the Delphi project will be recreated on your hard disk.

Each of the six self-extracting archive files contains complete source code,
and a Delphi project file (extension of .DPR) which you can just load up
from inside Delphi.

If you don't have Delphi...
---------------------------

Maybe you haven't yet purchased Delphi and you bought this book to find out
what all the fuss is about. With the exception of chaptr10.exe (which
contains the code for the installable 'Pie' component), the archive files
mentioned earlier include complete, ready-to-run executables so you can
run the sample applications even if you don't yet have Delphi.

Hint & Tips
-----------

The Icon Viewer from Chapter 1 obviously isn't going to be very useful
unless you've got a source of great-looking icons to browse through. If
you've installed Delphi, you can find some nice icons in the directory
\DELPHI\IMAGES\ICONS.

And Finally....
---------------

It only remains to thank you once again for buying the book. I hope you
get as much fun from reading it as I did from writing it! If you want to
send feedback to Wrox Press, you can send email to:
