1. General
   =======
Welcome to the second external release of Norton Navigator. If you are
uncertain about any of the new functionality or applications, be sure to
read through "Introducing Norton Navigator" which is accessible from the
Welcome application on the Start Menu.

This is a "work in progress"; we want to know about any problems,
issues, suggestions you may have. Please read through this document and
the documentation that came with your disks. Reporting issues in this
document or sending the same (exact) report multiple times will result
in a penalty count against your testing record.

With Norton Navigator installed you may not be able to complete Windows 95
shutdown. This is a known issue.

2.  INSTALL
    =======
INSTALL/UNINSTALL may have to restart Windows to proceed. If the system
hangs when trying to do so, you may have to do a cold reboot. INSTALL/
UNINSTALL should continue after doing so.

INSTALL may seem to pause for a long time while it is adding or deleting
items from the Norton Navigator Start Menu folder. This may take a minute
or two; please be patient.

If you are having problems with INSTALL, you can create a log file by
adding /LOG to the install command line. This will create the text file
INSTALL.LOG in your Windows directory. You can send this file with your
bug report.

To uninstall Norton Navigator, open the Win95 Control Panel and choose
Add/Remove Programs and select Norton Navigator. This is the new preferred
interface for uninstalling.

When you uninstall Norton Navigator, make sure the one desktop you want
to keep is the desktop you uninstall from. All other desktops will be
removed.

If you are running Win95 build 450 or later, you may receive a message
warning you that the product may not function under Windows 95. It is
safe to ignore this message. (Win95's application compatibility database
thinks you are tring to install C++ 6.01, which, of course, you are not.)

You should be able to install this release of Norton Navigator on top of
the Norton Utilities Preview edition. However, if you uninstall either
product, you may have to reinstall the other.

Install puts files in two directories -- one for Navigator specific files
and another for files that may be shared by other Symantec products. Both
of these directories (using their 8.3 equivalents) are put in the path
statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT. Although Windows 95 contains a feature that
allows the setting of app-specific paths for individual executables, this
feature does not currently function properly when used to set a path for
EXPLORER.EXE. Since much of Norton Navigator's functionality involves
extensions to the shell (i.e., Explorer), the shell must be able to found
our files in its path. Until another solution becomes available (Microsoft
is aware of the problem), the only option we have is to add these directories
to the path.

3.  File Manager
    ============
The file manager folder and file tree may not refresh correctly.
 (F5 will force a refresh)
Multiple Long Filenames are now supported (each must be enclosed in double
 quotes and separated by a space)
UNDO supports Recycle bin and Smartcan. You must have one of these
 installed to undo deletions.
You must have Recycle bin or Smartcan enabled to unerase folders.

4.  Norton Taskbar
    ==============
On Win95 builds greater than 347 and less than 456, a crash can occur when
changing the background color, pattern or bitmap. This is fixed in Windows 95
builds 456 or later.

You cannot cut and paste shortcuts across desktops yet.
