Forest & Trees Working Model
Version 3.1B
February 14, 1995
Release Notes

Dear User:

Thank you for requesting a copy of the Working Model, which is a demo
version of Forest & Trees for Windows, including an integrated set of
applications that allow you to interact with the product as a user would.
Although you are free to use the Working Model as long as you wish (the
program will not expire after a certain period of time), there are other
restrictions that do NOT exist in the full version of Forest & Trees--it:

- Reads only dBase data (whereas F&T can access over 25 different types of
  data sources)
- Reads only the first 25 rows of data from a data source
- Exports only the first 5 rows from a Forest & Trees view to a file
- Prints and shows only the first page of a report
- Does not include DDE support

Once you get a taste of what Forest & Trees can do, we think you'll want
to try it on your own data with an unrestricted evaluation copy that
includes full documentation, technical support, and interfaces to the
databases you use. Call Trinzic or your local Trinzic-authorized reseller
for details.

Thank you again for taking the time to look at the Working Model.

DISK SPACE NOTE:

The Forest & Trees Working Model will require over 8 Mb of disk space
to install, much of it occupied by bitmap files used in the demo
applications, rather than the program files. This amount of space is
greater than that taken by many demo disks, but keep in mind that you are
getting to try out nearly every feature of Forest & Trees, as well as 6
demo applications.

INSTALLATION ISSUES:

There are two areas where you might have problems after installation:

- Missing help, provider, or add-in files. By default, the Working Model
icon in Windows Program Manager has your FTW3WM directory as the Working
Directory. If you change the Working Directory to some other directory,
Forest & Trees won't be able to locate the files necessary to display
Help, access dBase data sources, or perform certain functions such as
creating graphs. The solution is either to make the Working Directory the
same as your FTW3WM directory--or edit your FTW.INI file as follows so
that F&T knows where to look for add-in, help, and provider files:

  [Setup]
AddInPath=C:\FTW3WM (or wherever your Working Model files are located--
the files it must find are TICKER.FTA, FTWGRF.FTA,
                      and FTQB.FTA)

HelpPath=C:\FTW3WM (or wherever your Working Model files are located--
the file it must find is FTW.HLP)

ProviderPath=C:\FTW3WM (or wherever your Working Model files are
located--the files it must find are dbase.ftw and
                          viewv3.ftw)

- Missing application files (view files, bitmap files, data files). The
Working Model can be installed in any parent directory, but a certain
subdirectory structure must be maintained in order for the demo
applications to find the bitmap and data files they need to work
properly. If you remove any of these files or rename the default
subdirectories, the applications will display warning messages and fail
to run. Here is the required subdirectory structure:

  YOUR_FTW3WM directory -- Program files

WORKMODL subdirectory -- Demo view files for manufacturing, sales, and
                               human resources applications

BITMAPS subdirectory -- .BMP and .ICO files used in the applications

DATA subdirectory -- dBase (.dbf) files used in the applications

QURYBLDR subdirectory -- Ad-hoc query application plus .BMP files

YOUROWN subdirectory -- Area for building an F&T application,
                               following the Working Model Guide
