 PERSONAL TAXPREP - INSTALLATION
 ===============================

 Disk Space
 ----------
You will need about 7.5M of free space on your hard disk to install this
version. After installation the Personal program will take up about 6.5M.
The INSTALL program will check for free space before proceeding.

If you are also installing the laser disk, you will require an additional
 500K of free space.

While running the program, you also require approximately 200K of free
work space for each open return. For example, to open both the husband's
and wife's returns, you will require approximately 400K of free disk space.

 Where to Install
 ----------------
Install Version 92.2 in a the same subdirectory as Version 92.1, or a new
subdirectory if you have not yet installed the T1 for 1992. We do not
recommend that you install Version 92.2 over top of Version 91.3. You may
still require Version 91.3 for late returns or to verify assessments.

 Configuration File
 ------------------
When your previous configuration file is read by Version 92.2, it will be
automatically converted to the current format. If your configuration file
is stored in a separate subdirectory (e.g. C:\TAXPREP), make sure that
your SET TAX = <path> command points to that subdirectory so that Version
 92.2 can find the file.

If you do not use a SET TAX command and you have not yet installed T1 for
1992 (e.g. if your configuration file is normally in your program
subdirectory), copy last year's configuration file (_TO.CFG) to your new
 92.2 subdirectory.

Note: If your configuration file is set as a READ ONLY file (e.g. using
the DOS ATTRIBUTE command), Taxprep will be unable to modify it. Remove
the READ ONLY restriction on these files before running the program.

 Print Format Files
 ------------------
The Install program provides you with an option to copy and convert your
print format files from last year during the installation so they can be
used with Version 92.2. If you choose not to convert previous format files,
a new set of print format files will be installed in your 92.2 directory.

 Install Program Options
 =======================
At the end of the installation you will be asked if you are installing
Taxprep III on this computer for the first time. If you answer Y, the
program will automatically take you through choosing a data file path
and setting up your workstation as described below.

INSTALL PERSONAL - Copies and unpacks the program files.

CHOOSE DATA FILE PATH - Allows you to specify the data file path that
the program will default to when first run. This can also be set within
 the program.

SET UP WORKSTATION - Modifies (or creates) the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the
root directory to add a SET TAX=filepath command. This command allows
the Taxprep program to locate the directory in which the Taxprep
 configuration files are stored.

Also modifies (or creates) the CONFIG.SYS file. To run properly, Taxprep
requires that the line FILES=40 be present in the CONFIG.SYS file. The Set
Up Workstation option does this automatically.

Note: If your CONFIG.SYS files are set as READ ONLY files (e.g. using the
DOS ATTRIBUTE command), the Install program will be unable to modify them.
Remove the READ ONLY restriction on these files before installing the program.

CHOOSE PATH FOR TEMPORARY FILE - Modifies (or creates) the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file in the root directory to add a SET TEMPTAXPREP=filepath command.
The Taxprep program will use the path specified as the location of the
 temporary file that it creates.

If there is no TEMPTAXPREP environment variable, Taxprep will create
the temporary file in the program directory.

HELP - Displays the README.TXT file containing these instructions.

COLOUR ON/OFF - Used on a colour monitor to change the display to mono
 or back to colour.

 Installing on a Network
 =======================
There are two main steps to installing Taxprep on a network:

  - Install the program into a network subdirectory.

    and

  - If necessary, set up each workstation with the correct AUTOEXEC.BAT,
  CONFIG.SYS and configuration file.

When Is Workstation Set Up Required?
 ====================================
NOTE = Setting up the workstations is only necessary if they do not already
have sufficient FILES set in the CONFIG.SYS or if you wish to use a
separate configuration file for each workstation. The same procedure is
used for all Taxprep III programs. Therefore if you have configured the
workstation for Corporate Taxprep, you will not need to repeat the procedure
for Personal Taxprep or for future versions.

 INSTALLING THE PROGRAM

Install the program onto the network in the same way as if you were
installing onto a local hard disk.

 SETTING UP THE WORKSTATIONS

 To set up a workstation:

  - From each individual workstation, access the Taxprep network
subdirectory and type INSTALL and choose Set Up Workstation.

   or

  - At each workstation insert the Install disk into the floppy drive.
At the A: prompt type INSTALL and choose Set Up Workstation. (A temporary
file is created so you will need to remove any write-protect tab on the
 Install Disk.)

If you are specifying a separate file path for temporary files, you will
also need to use the Choose Path for Temporary Files option for each
 workstation.

 SHARING CONFIGURATION FILES

If all of the workstations will be sharing the same configuration
information, then separate configuration files are not required
for each workstation. The program will automatically put the configuration
files in the program subdirectory if not otherwise instructed.

If the workstations will have individual configuration files (e.g., if
different monitors are used), then you should specify a subdirectory on
the hard disk for storing the configuration. You will need to specify a
data file path for each workstation.

If you want certain groups of workstations to share configuration files
(e.g., if Partner A's staff all use the same data file path), then you can
specify a different network subdirectory as the location of the
configuration for each group. The data file path will have to be specified
 once for each group.

See "Using SET Commands" in the User's Guide Appendix.

 SETTING A TEMPORARY FILE PATH
When running on a network, you may find that you can improve the performance
of the program by having Taxprep create the temporary file on the hard disk
of the workstation rather than on the network. The effectiveness of relocating
the temporary file will depend on the access speed of your network file server
as well as the access speed of the workstation's hard disk.

If the computer has sufficient memory, performance can be enhanced even
further by having Taxprep create the temporary file in a RAM drive.
