This file describes the error messages that you may encounter when using
the Invisible LAN command line utilities.  For each message, we give an
explanation, and a recommendation on how to correct the error.

Error message information is divided into four files:

1. CACHE Command Error Messages




Incorrect software version.

Explanation:  The version of CACHE you are running is different from the
version of disk cache that is installed.

Recommended Action:  Use the correct software version.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters on the CACHE command line are incorrect.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type CACHE ? if you need
help.

2. CLRCMOS Command Error Messages




This program can only be used on a PC AT compatible computer.

Explanation:  CLRCMOS only works on AT-type computers.

Recommended Action:  Only use CLRCMOS on AT-type computers.

3. LSHADOW Command Error Messages




Cannot perform command - Shadow RAM manager is not installed.

Explanation:  LSHADOW cannot be used because (a) Invisible RAM is not
installed, or (b) Invisible RAM did not create any shadow RAM.

Recommended Action:  Only use LSHADOW after Invisible RAM is installed,
and configured to create shadow RAM.




Cannot perform command - no shadow RAM is allocated for loading
programs.

Explanation:  LSHADOW cannot be used because Invisible RAM did not
create any shadow RAM.

Recommended Action:  Only use LSHADOW if Invisible RAM is configured to
create shadow RAM.




LSHADOW:  Execute error.

Explanation:  A DOS error occurred while attempted to load the
memory-resident program.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




LSHADOW:  File not found.

Explanation:  The memory-resident program you specified on the LSHADOW
command line could not be found.

Recommended Action:  Make sure that you entered the program name
correctly, including the .EXE or .COM extension.




LSHADOW:  Path not found.

Explanation:  The memory-resident program name you specified on the
LSHADOW command line contains an invalid directory path.

Recommended Action:  Correct the program name.




Access denied.

Explanation:  The memory-resident program you specified on the LSHADOW
command line is being used by someone else;  or else you don't have
appropriate access rights.

Recommended Action:  Make sure you have execute access rights to the
program.  Retry the command.




LSHADOW:  Insufficient memory.

Explanation:  The isn't enough shadow RAM to run the memory-resident
program.

Recommended Action:  Check to see if you can create more shadow RAM.  If
you can't, then use DOS memory instead.




LSHADOW:  Invalid environment.

Explanation:  The DOS environment is invalid.

Recommended Action:  Try logging in to the directory where the LSHADOW
program is located, then retry the command.




LSHADOW:  Invalid format.

Explanation:  The program name you specified on the LSHADOW command line
is not an executable program file.

Recommended Action:  Enter the name of an executable program.




Invalid parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the LSHADOW command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type LSHADOW ? if you
need help.

4. MAKEIMG Command Error Messages




Error reading the boot diskette.

Explanation:  The boot diskette has a bad sector.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.  If the error recurs, make a new
boot diskette.




Disk full.

Explanation:  The image file cannot be created because the destination
disk is full.

Recommended Action:  Free up some space on the destination disk, or
select a different destination disk.




Program Aborting.

Explanation:  The program could not create the image file, due to an
error.

Recommended Action:  Correct the error condition.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters on the MAKEIMG command line are incorrect.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type MAKEIMG ? if you
need help.




Error writing the image file.

Explanation:  The creation of the image file failed because of a disk
error.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Access denied.

Explanation:  The image file name you specified is already in use.  You
are probably trying to overwrite an existing image file while the RPL
Server is running.

Recommended Action:  Reboot the system, and retry the MAKEIMG command
without starting the RPL Server.




No file handles available.

Explanation:  The image file could not be created because DOS has no
more file handles.

Recommended Action:  Increase the FILES= statement in CONFIG.SYS.




Path not found.

Explanation:  The image file name you specified included an invalid
directory path.

Recommended Action:  Correct the image file name.

5.  MAP Command Error Messages




You must load the Redirector before running MAP.

Explanation:  The Invisible LAN redirector is not installed.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before using MAP.




Cannot redirect the current drive.

Explanation:  You are currently logged in to the drive that you are
trying to redirect.  This is not allowed.

Recommended Action:  Change your current drive, and then retry the
command.




Too many redirections.

Explanation:  You have exceeded the redirector's limit on network
sessions.

Recommended Action:  Increase the redirector's Sessions parameter.




Path not found on server.

Explanation:  The directory you specified in the MAP command parameters
does not exist on the server's disk.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type MAP ? if you need
help.




Invalid drive on server.

Explanation:  The drive you specified in the MAP command parameters does
not exist on the server.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type MAP ? if you need
help.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the MAP command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type MAP ? if you need
help.




Invalid local drive letter.

Explanation:  The local drive letter you entered on the MAP command line
is invalid.  Either you entered a non-alphabetic character, or else the
drive letter you entered is greater than the LASTDRIVE value.

Recommended Action:  Check the parameter to make sure it is correct;
type MAP ? if you need help.  Increase the LASTDRIVE value in
CONFIG.SYS, if necessary.




Server not found on network.

Explanation:  The server name you specified could not be found on the
network.

Recommended Action:  Check the server name you entered to make sure it
is correct;  type MAP ? if you need help.  Make sure that the server
computer has been started.




Server not listening.

Explanation:  The server's limit on network sessions has been exceeded.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.  If the error recurs, increase
the server's Sessions parameter.




Server does not have a print spooler.

Explanation:  You are trying to redirect a printer device to a server
that does not have a print spooler.

Recommended Action:  Make sure you entered the correct server name.  If
you want to use the server's printer, you have to configure the server
to allow it.




Cannot establish redirection.

Explanation:  The drive or printer redirection could not be established,
due to an unexpected error.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Cannot discontinue redirection on the current drive.

Explanation:  You are currently logged in to the drive whose redirection
you are trying to terminate.  This is not allowed.

Recommended Action:  Change your current drive, and then retry the
command.




Network drive has open files.

Explanation:  You cannot discontinue or change the redirection, because
there are open files on the network drive.

Recommended Action:  Close the open files, then retry the command.




Cannot discontinue redirection.

Explanation:  The drive or printer redirection could not be terminated,
due to an unexpected error.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Incorrect password, or incorrect user name.

Explanation:  You do not have security permission to access the
specified drive, shortname, or printer;  or you have not entered the
correct password.

Recommended Action:  Enter the correct password.  Make sure you have
security permission to use the drive, shortname, or printer.




Invalid shortname.

Explanation:  The shortname you entered on the MAP command line does not
exist at the server.

Recommended Action:  Correct the shortname.  Type MAP ? if you need
help.




Invalid printer number.

Explanation:  The printer number you entered on the MAP command line
does not exist at the server.

Recommended Action:  Correct the printer number.  Type MAP ? if you
need help.




Access denied.

Explanation:  You do not have security permission to access the
specified drive, shortname, or printer;  or you have not entered the
correct password.

Recommended Action:  Enter the correct password.  Make sure you have
security permission to use the drive, shortname, or printer.

6. NETCLOCK Command Error Messages




You must load the Redirector before running NETCLOCK.

Explanation:  The Invisible LAN redirector is not installed.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before using NETCLOCK.




Too many redirections.

Explanation:  You have exceeded the redirector's limit on network
sessions.

Recommended Action:  Increase the redirector's Sessions parameter.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the NETCLOCK command line
are invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type NETCLOCK ? if you
need help.




Server not found on network.

Explanation:  The server name you specified could not be found on the
network.

Recommended Action:  Check the server name you entered to make sure it
is correct;  type NETCLOCK ? if you need help.  Make sure that the
server computer has been started.




Server not listening.

Explanation:  The server's limit on network sessions has been exceeded.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.  If the error recurs, increase
the server's Sessions parameter.




Cannot establish redirection.

Explanation:  NETCLOCK could not establish communication with the
server, due to an unexpected error.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Server does not have clock service.

Explanation:  The server computer does not support the NETCLOCK
function.

Recommended Action:  Use a different server.




Network communication error.  Cannot complete command.

Explanation:  NETCLOCK could not complete the operation because of an
unexpected network communication failure.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Unexpected error returned by server.

Explanation:  NETCLOCK could not complete the operation because of an
unexpected error at the server.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Incorrect version of Network Operating System.

Explanation:  The version of NETCLOCK you are using does not match the
version of Invisible LAN that is installed.

Recommended Action:  Use the correct software version.

7. NETPRINT Command Error Messages




Invalid printer name.

Explanation:  The printer name parameter on the NETPRINT command line is
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type NETPRINT ? if you
need help.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the NETPRINT command line
are invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type NETPRINT ? if you
need help.




Network operating system not installed.

Explanation:  The Invisible LAN redirector is not installed.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before running NETPRINT.




File not found.

Explanation:  The file name you specified on the NETPRINT command line
does not exist.

Recommended Action:  Correct the file name.




Path not found.

Explanation:  The file name you specified on the NETPRINT command line
contains an invalid directory path.

Recommended Action:  Correct the file name.




No file handles.

Explanation:  For a local file, DOS has no file handles available.  For
a network file, the redirector's limit on network files has been
exceeded.

Recommended Action:  For a local file, increase the FILES= statement in
CONFIG.SYS.  For a network file, increase the redirector's Files
parameter.




Access denied.

Explanation:  Someone else is using the file you specified.

Recommended Action:  Wait until no one else is using the file.




Invalid drive.

Explanation:  The file name you specified on the NETPRINT command line
contains an invalid drive letter.

Recommended Action:  Correct the file name.




Unable to open file.

Explanation:  NETPRINT could not obtain access to the file.

Recommended Action:  Check the file name to make sure it is correct.
Retry the command.




Unable to open printer.

Explanation:  NETPRINT could not obtain access to the printer.

Recommended Action:  Check the printer name to make sure it is correct.
Retry the command.




Error reading disk file.

Explanation:  A disk error occurred while reading the file.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Error writing to printer.

Explanation:  A hardware error occurred while sending data to the
printer.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Server's print queue is full.

Explanation:  There is no room for any more files in the print queue.

Recommended Action:  Wait until room is available in the print queue.
If you find this error occurs often, you should increase the print
spooler's Spool Files parameter.




Insufficient space on server's disk.

Explanation:  There is no more room on the server's disk for print spool
files.

Recommended Action:  Wait for space to become available on the server's
disk.  If you find this error occurs often, change the print spooler's
Spool Directory parameter to specify a disk that has adequate free
space.

8. NW Command Error Messages




Incorrect version of Network Operating System.

Explanation:  The version of NW you are using does not match the version
number of the installed Invisible LAN.

Recommended Action:  Use the correct software version.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the NW command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type NW ? if you need
help.




Network operating system not installed.

Explanation:  Invisible LAN is not installed.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before running NW.




Command failed.

Explanation:  The specified command could not be performed due to an
unexpected error.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Cannot PAUSE because Server is not installed.

Explanation:  The NW PAUSE command is only valid for servers.

Recommended Action:  Use NW PAUSE on a server.




Cannot CONTINUE because server is not installed.

Explanation:  The NW CONTINUE command is only valid for servers.

Recommended Action:  Use NW CONTINUE on a server.




Cannot HIDE because Redirector is not installed.

Explanation:  The NW HIDE command is only valid after starting the
Invisible LAN redirector.

Recommended Action:  Use NW HIDE after starting the Invisible LAN
redirector.




Cannot AUDIO because Redirector is not installed.

Explanation:  The NW AUDIO command is only valid after starting the
Invisible LAN redirector.

Recommended Action:  Use NW AUDIO after starting the Invisible LAN
redirector.




Cannot NOAUDIO because Redirector is not installed.

Explanation:  The NW NOAUDIO command is only valid after starting the
Invisible LAN redirector.

Recommended Action:  Use NW NOAUDIO after starting the Invisible LAN
redirector.

9. PASSWORD Command Error Messages




You must load the Redirector before running PASSWORD.

Explanation:  You have not loaded the Invisible LAN redirector.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before running PASSWORD.




Password is limited to a maximum of 15 characters.

Explanation:  The password you entered is too long.

Recommended Action:  Correct the password.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the PASSWORD command line
are invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type PASSWORD ? if you
need help.




Incorrect version of Invisible LAN.

Explanation:  The PASSWORD command version does not match the Invisible
LAN version.

Recommended Action:  Use the correct software version.

10. POPMAST Command Error Messages




You must load the Redirector before running POPMAST.

Explanation:  The Invisible LAN redirector is not installed.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before using POPMAST.




PopMaster is already installed.

Explanation:  You have already used POPMAST.  You cannot use it again.

Recommended Action:  Do not use POPMAST more than once.




Cannot install PopMaster - Conflicting program is already installed.

Explanation:  The Mail program is installed.  You cannot use POPMAST if
the Mail program is installed.

Recommended Action:  If you need to use POPMAST, do not install the
Invisible LAN Mail program.




Incorrect version of Invisible LAN.

Explanation:  The version of POPMAST you are using does not match the
version of Invisible LAN that is installed.

Recommended Action:  Use the correct software version.




Redirector has rejected installation of PopMaster.

Explanation:  POPMAST could not be installed because of an unexpected
error in the redirector.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.

11. POPTOP Command Error Messages




You must give the POPMAST command before running POPTOP.

Explanation:  You cannot run POPTOP because POPMAST is not installed.

Recommended Action:  Install POPMAST before running POPTOP.




You have already run the POPTOP program.

Explanation:  POPTOP has already been run.  You cannot run it again.

Recommended Action:  Do not run POPTOP more than once.




PopMaster refused the activation request.

Explanation:  POPTOP could not complete its operation because of an
unexpected error in POPMAST.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.

12. PSETUP Command Error Messages




Redirector is not installed.

Explanation:  You have not loaded the Invisible LAN redirector.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before running PSETUP.




Invalid printer name.

Explanation:  The printer name parameter on the PSETUP command line is
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type PSETUP ? if you need
help.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the PSETUP command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type PSETUP ? if you need
help.




Invalid hex string.

Explanation:  The hexadecimal setup string you entered on the PSETUP
command line is invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type PSETUP ? if you need
help.




Printer is not redirected.

Explanation:  The printer you specified is not a network printer.
PSETUP only works with network printers.

Recommended Action:  Specify a network printer.




Unable to get printer setup string (reason unknown).

Explanation:  An unexpected error was reported by the Invisible LAN
redirector.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.  If the error recurs, try
rebooting your computer, and then try the command again.




Unable to set printer setup string (reason unknown).

Explanation:  An unexpected error was reported by the Invisible LAN
redirector.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.  If the error recurs, try
rebooting your computer, and then try the command again.




No set-up string.

Explanation:  You did not enter a set-up string parameter on the PSETUP
command line.

Recommended Action:  Enter the required parameter.  Type PSETUP ? if
you need help.

13. PQ Command Error Messages




Server is not installed.

Explanation:  The Invisible LAN server has not been started.

Recommended Action:  Start the Invisible LAN server before using PQ.




Incorrect version of Network Operating System.

Explanation:  The version of PQ you are using does not match the version
of the installed Invisible LAN server.

Recommended Action:  Use the correct version of the software.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the PQ command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type PQ ? if you need
help.




Server does not have a print spooler.

Explanation:  When you installed the Invisible LAN server, you did not
configure it to support a print spooler.  PQ requires a print spooler.

Recommended Action:  Change the server configuration so that it supports
a print spooler.




Command failed.

Explanation:  The server returned an unexpected error.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.  If the error recurs, reboot
your computer, and then try the command again.




This option can only be used with a serial printer.

Explanation:  The parameter you specified cannot be used with a parallel
printer.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type PQ ? if you need
help.




Network printer #2 is not supported by the Print Spooler.

Explanation:  The parameter you specified refers to network printer #2,
but the print spooler only supports one network printer.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameter.  Type PQ ? if you need
help.

14. TRUNCATE Command Error Messages




Redirector is not installed.

Explanation:  You have not loaded the Invisible LAN redirector.

Recommended Action:  Start Invisible LAN before running TRUNCATE.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the TRUNCATE command line
are invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type TRUNCATE ? if you
need help.

15. UNLINK Command Error Messages




Network card is not present or not working.

Explanation:  The network card is not installed, or the network software
has not been started.

Recommended Action:  Only use UNLINK after starting the network.




UNLINK operation failed.

Explanation:  An unexpected error was returned by NetBIOS.

Recommended Action:  Try to access the boot diskette image, and see
whether or not the UNLINK operation actually occurred.  It not, retry
the command.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the UNLINK command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type UNLINK ? if you need
help.

16. US Command Error Messages




Ultra Server is not installed.

Explanation:  US cannot be used because Ultra Server is not installed.
US can only be used on computers that are running Ultra Server.

Recommended Action:  Only use US after Ultra Server is installed.




Cannot UNMOUNT, drive(s) have open file handles.

Explanation:  The US UNMOUNT command cannot be performed because network
users have open files on the specified drive(s).

Recommended Action:  Close all files on the specified drive(s) before
using US UNMOUNT.  Alternatively, use US DOWN to automatically close all
files on the specified drive(s).




Invalid drive letter specified.

Explanation:  The command cannot be performed because you have specified
a drive letter that is not being cached by Ultra Server.

Recommended Action:  Correct the command.  If Ultra Server is not
caching a drive that you would like to cache, use SETUP30 to specify
which drives should be cached.




Cannot complete operation.

Explanation:  The command cannot be performed for an unknown reason.

Recommended Action:  Retry the command.




Invalid command parameters.

Explanation:  The parameters you entered on the US command line are
invalid.

Recommended Action:  Correct the parameters.  Type US ?  if you need
help.

17. VGAOFF Command Error Messages




Cannot perform command - Shadow RAM manager is not installed.

Explanation:  VGAOFF cannot be used because (a) Invisible RAM is not
installed, or (b) Invisible RAM is not performing frontfill.

Recommended Action:  Only use VGAOFF after Invisible RAM is installed,
and configured to perform frontfill.




Cannot perform command - insufficient free memory.

Explanation:  The command cannot be completed due to insufficient
memory.

Recommended Action:  Don't install so many memory-resident programs.




Cannot perform command - current DOS memory size is not 640K.

Explanation:  Some program has <169>stolen<170> memory from DOS, making
it impossible to create contiguous memory larger than 640K.

Recommended Action:  Don't install programs that <169>steal<170> memory
from DOS.




Cannot perform command - EGA/VGA video RAM cannot be enabled and
disabled.

Explanation:  Invisible RAM has been configured so as to permanently
disable high-resolution graphics;  probably by creating paged EMS memory
in segments A000-AFFF.

Recommended Action:  Don't use VGAOFF when Invisible RAM is configured
to permanently disable high-resolution graphics.

18. VGAON Command Error Messages




Cannot perform command - Shadow RAM manager is not installed.

Explanation:  VGAON cannot be used because (a) Invisible RAM is not
installed, or (b) Invisible RAM is not performing frontfill.

Recommended Action:  Only use VGAON after Invisible RAM is installed,
and configured to perform frontfill.




Cannot perform command - insufficient free memory.

Explanation:  The command cannot be completed due to insufficient
memory.

Recommended Action:  Don't install so many memory-resident programs.




Cannot perform command - current DOS memory size is not correct.

Explanation:  Some program has <169>stolen<170> memory from DOS, making
itself resident within DOS memory above 640K.

Recommended Action:  Don't install programs that <169>steal<170> memory
from DOS.




Cannot perform command - EGA/VGA video RAM cannot be enabled and
disabled.

Explanation:  Invisible RAM has been configured so as to permanently
disable high-resolution graphics;  probably by creating paged EMS memory
in segments A000-AFFF.

Recommended Action:  Don't use VGAON when Invisible RAM is configured to
permanently disable high-resolution graphics.




Cannot perform command - configured frontfill size is less than 704K.

Explanation:  You cannot enable high-resolution graphics if Invisible
RAM is configured to make DOS memory smaller than 704K.

Recommended Action:  Only use VGAON if Invisible RAM is configured with
a frontfill size at least 704K.

