                             DAZzle PLus

Introduction

Welcome to DAZzle PLus! Please take a few minutes to read this file
and also read the Users Guide for an introduction to the basics of the
program. You can obtain many more details by accessing the on-line Help
in the program.

Necessary Equipment

DAZzle PLus requires a computer with a hard disk running Windows 3.1
or higher, a VGA or SVGA Montior, 2Meg of hard disk space, and a Hayes
compatible modem for Dial-A-ZIP.

Installing DAZzle PLus

To get DAZzle PLus up and running, run the installation program as follows:

1. Insert the DAZzle diskette into drive A: or B:.
2. Start Windows, then choose File|Run.
3. Type A:\SETUP.EXE (or B:\SETUP.EXE. if you use drive B:).
4. Enter your name, address and serial number in the Installation
dialog box. Your serial number is the seven digit number printed
   on the installation diskette.
5. If you are upgrading or re-installing DAZzle, note that the installation
procedure will upgrade the program only. None of your layouts,
preferences or settings will be changed.

Most Common DAZzle Trouble Spots

1. Dial-A-ZIP does not work.

Their is a new expanded troubleshooting section in the on-line
help to work with Dial-A-ZIP problems. Please go through those
    steps to solve your problem.

2. The Envelope/Label/Flyer doesn't print properly.

First, not all printers are created equal, some print envelopes and
labels better than others, reguardless of the software used. Generally,
laser printers perform best, followed by ink jet and then dot matrix.

With all printers, make sure you select the proper paper feed options
in the File|Printer Setup. Select the correct tray, orientation and
also the location for envelopes. You can use the two offset values
to accurately adjust the printing location on the mail piece. For the
fastest results, use the simplest envelope design, the more
fonts, text messages and graphics used the slower the print speed.
The DAZzle On-line help has very extensive instructions for envelope and
label feeding for many common printers.

3. Importing address from other applications

Use either the clipboard (copy and pasting) or use DAZzle's DDE capability
if your other application supports DDE. Please check the on-line help for
    details on these features.

Version 2.1 Changes

New Features:

DAZzles look has been changed to conform to the Microsoft 3-D look.
This will allow an easier migration to Windows 4.0 (Chicago) when it
  is released later this year(?).
New spin controls have been added to all numeric fields to allow
updating of fields using just the mouse.
New meter bars have been added to show the percent complete of print
jobs, ZONE chart downloads, and loading of graphic images.
All fields that require entry of a number in inches is now automatically
formatted to include the (") symbol.
A ruler option has been added to allow easier design of envelopes that
require accurate location of the items.
A status bar has been added to display the current media selected and
the current printer and feed options.
DAZzle can be set to start minimized (using the standard MS Windows
Properties option for the DAZzle icon).
The Preferences have been enhanced with a tabbed dialog box and now
  includes the following options:
DAZzle can now pop-up before printing when using DDE (e.g. with Word,
  WordPerfect)
A grid can be displayed on the envelope (at a user specified spacing)
and also a snap to option has been added to make alignment of multiple
  objects easier.
The user can specify default directories for both layouts and graphic
files (other than the DAZzle program directory).
The ruler may be turned on or off.
The status bar may be turned on or off.
A "placeholder" can be displayed instead of the graphic to speed the
re-draw when using large graphics. Graphics will still be printed when
  this option is used.
Blank lines can be removed or retained with a new preference option.
The starting label on a sheet of labels can now be selected (both the
row and column). Select File|Print to see the options - only available
  with sheet label layouts.
A range of addresses can be printed when printing lists. Enter the
"number" of the address in the file, e.g. 2 to 12. Handy for reprinting
parts of lists or testing a list. Available on the Print Options dialog
  when printing a list.
A list of the for most recently used layouts is at the bottom of the File
Menu for easy switching between layouts.
Addresses can now be centered vertically, on the fly. When lists are
printed each address will be centered in the same position. This option
is also handy when using the same layout and changing addresses. This
option is on the Main Address dialog.
The spacing of the POSTNET bra code can now be changed from DAZzle
standard spacing to "narrow" spacing. When using the narrow option the
DP Bar code will fit on the Avery 3x10 sheet labels. WARNING: the narrow
spacing bar code has yet to be tested by USPS. This option is available on
  the Bar Code Options Dialog.
More label formats are now supported: Averys new 1 column labels.
Available on the Media Dialog box.
Postcards (3 different formats) are now supported as a label format -
NOTE: postcards could be printed with 2.0 using the user-defined label
settings. Available on the Media Dialog box.
A new option for skipping the "perforation" in labels has been added in
the Label Setup dialog. This is very useful with the new Avery one
  column labels.
International Envelope Sizes are now supported. Available on the Media
  Dialog box.
DAZzle can now print the International POSTNET bar codes for foreign
countries. Also, if the country is USA or United States of America, DAZzle
will still print the POSTNET bar code for the address. Earlier versions
would not print the bar code when the country was entered. Available on
the Bar Code Option Dialog box.
DAZzle Plus can now read dBase files. DAZzle will list each of the fields
in the dBase file and allow the mapping just like comma-delimited files.
dBase files work very well for field based databases - fast and easy to
  update.
DAZzle Plus can now read MS Windows CardFile files. The CardFile setup
is very simple, just select the file and DAZzle will read the addresses.
NOTE: DAZzle has two limitations with the CardFile format: 1) DAZzle only
reads CardFile 3.0 format (not 3.1). Any CardFile that is in the 3.1 format
can be saved to the 3.o format (however some data may be lost!). 2) DAZzle
can only handle cardfiles where the address is the only data in the cards
(phone numbers, notes, etc. wont work).
DAZzle Plus can now read addresses from the clipboard. Two new menu
options: File|Print List from Clipboard and Dial-A-ZIP|List from Clipboard
support this new option. The addresses must be in the Word Processing
Text format when copied to the clipboard. This is one of the easiest ways
to print addresses from another application because a file does not have
to be created. Just highlight the list, pick copy and then fire up DAZzle
to print or run Dial-A-ZIP. This feature will be used extensively with
the DDE interface to other Windows applications.
Added USPS AMS CD-ROM support (CD-ROM purchased separately)
Added interface to Act! and 1stAct! from Symantec. DAZzle can read and
  write to/from Act!

Changed Features:
All label formats are now available in DAZzle (not just DAZzle Plus and
Designer). This allows for printing copies of one address on sheets of
  labels.
The Modem Setup and Advanced options dialogs have been combined into one
dialog. The Test port button has been removed. DAZzle now supports baud
  rates up to 38,400.
The Modem Setup Dialog box now includes a drop down list of ZIP Stations.
When a different ZIP station is select, the Dial command is automatically
updated to the new phone number.
The Mechanical Artwork printing option now prints "centering" marks and
also text describing the format of the mailpiece.
DAZzle no longer supports EGA monitors.
DAZzle no longer supports Penalty Mail for USPS.
Enhanced DDE support. Any DAZzle menu command can now be issued from any
DDE client (e.g. MS Word, Packrat, etc.). See DAZzle Help for details.
International Business Replay Mail has a smaller Postage box and narrower
lines to make it easier to fit all the required text.
Changed List printing and Dial-a-ZIP for lists to have sub-menus for
different methods: File, Clipboard and Act!

Problems Fixed:
DAZzle now correctly sets the width of the paper when printing on dot
  matrix printers with Cheshire labels.
DAZzle will no longer GPF if the user has never selected a paper size or
paper feed option in the Printer Setup box.
The communication interface has been overhauled to eliminate problems
on Dial-A-ZIP with high speed modems.
DAZzle Plus can now read comma delimited files that use a combination of
  quotes and no quotes.

Version 2.1a Changes

Changed CASS report to reflect latest CASS certification dated 7/18/94.
Corrected error in the updating of addresses during Dial-A-ZIP. If the
user had turned OFF address standardization and the state names in the
address list were spelled out (not two letters) the city name would be
  corrupted.
The on-line help includes two changes. First, the DDE section was corrected
to properly show the syntax for the DDECommand option. NOTE: the user's
manual is wrong! Second, a new section was added for help with customizing
  Act! with DAZzle.
The display and printing of the permit boxes for permit class mail was
changed so that the permit is on the last line (rather than the City, State).

Version 2.1b Changes

For CD-ROM support, the CASS date is now correctly reported from the CD-ROM
  rather than the system date.
For lists, DAZzle Plus automatically detects dBase and Cardfile lists to
prevent the user from selected the wrong file type. There was also a change
to prevent a GPF if the user still selects the wrong file type for DBF files.
The saving of data for lists was changed when addresses are NOT standardized.
DAZzle will not update any fields other than the Return code, ZIP Code,
Delivery point and Carrier route when not standardizing addresses
The standardization routine had some errors when processing only two line
addresses. These error have been corrected.
Act! Interface in DAZzle Plus has the following changes:
Single address Dial-A-ZIP now return the address to Act!
An error updating the contact name when it is blank has been fixed
DAZzle now supports Act!'s first name/last name switching mode. If the
name is separated by commas the names will be reversed when printing.
A new Act! preferences section has been added to allow the user to
    configure the Act! field mapping.
A new option for labels has been added to show labels with "rounded" corners.
This option is on the Label Setup Dialog.
Paper Direct Label sizes have been added to the list of labels
The error handling during Dial-A-ZIP has been beefed up to prevent erroneous
  error reports.
The printing modes have been changed to allow printing items "on top" of one
another. A graphic can be printed in the Main Address block with no loss of
  the image.
