readme file exists).

----------------------------------------------------------------
2. UPGRADE INFORMATION
----------------------------------------------------------------

Old versions of DiscView and the DiscPort NLMs are not able to
identify Token Ring DiscPorts (they will appear as Ethernet
DiscPorts). Therefore, it is recommended that older versions of
DiscView NOT be used, especially when performing any DiscPort
configuration operations.

Secondly, the latest version of DiscView will disable all DiscPort
configuration operations whenever the user's workstation is NOT
connected to (and the user is a manager on) at least one fileserver
running v2.42a (or later) of the DiscPort NLMs. Therefore, it is
recommended that all fileservers running the DiscPort NLMs be updated
to the latest release to avoid these version incompatibilities.

Lastly, please read the "Backward Compatibility Issues" section below
before upgrading NLMs.

The DiscView NLM UPDATE process:

    1) Update fileserver DiscPort NLMs with the latest version
    2) Install the latest boot image file in login directory
    3) Re-configure all DiscPorts attached to the server

A) Download the latest DiscPort release from Microtest BBS (already done)

B) Make a directory on your hard disk and copy the self-extracting
ZIPFILE which you downloaded to a directory on your hard disk

C) Uncompress the self-extracting ZIP, saving directory information by
typing: {ZIPFILENAME} -d, where {ZIPFILENAME} is the name of the
ZIPFILE that you downloaded (e.g., dp230a.exe).

D) Install the DiscView programs onto the network by running SETUP.EXE
from Windows. The new programs should be installed over the old
DiscView directory. After all files are copied to the network,
   DiscView loads.

E) DiscView automatically starts the update process by displaying a
list of attached servers. Select the server to be updated and follow
all prompts. Make sure to select UPDATE, not UNINSTALL. UPDATE
saves all previous configurations, including CD-ROM volume information,
   user security, and statistics.

F) Re-mount CD-ROM volumes on updated DiscPorts.

G) To update more than one server, select additional servers (one at
a time) when your first server update is complete and choose
"Install NLM" from the Install menu.

----------------------------------------------------------------
3. BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
----------------------------------------------------------------

CD-ROM volumes configured with the Discport NLMs v3.01a (or later)
are NOT backward compatible with pre-v3.01a NLMs. For example, a
CD-ROM configured as a volume on a server running v3.01a of the NLMs
must NOT be mounted using the v2.30a NLMs. Attempting a mount in
this situation will result in a fileserver ABEND. This is only
applicable if you are running version 3.01 and configure a volume,
then return to version 2.30a.

Make sure that all volumes created using v3.01a (or higher) are
deleted and re-configured prior to attempting to mount them when
running NLMs released before v3.01a. It is best to delete all
volumes if you are unsure when the volumes were initially configured.

Note that all CD-ROM volumes configured with NLMs released before
v3.01a are fully forward and backward compatible with all other
releases. For example, a CD-ROM configured as a volume on a server
running v2.30a of the NLMs can be mounted using the v3.01a or v2.10a
release.

4. TECH TIPS
----------------------------------------------------------------

**1**) DiscView runs in Windows in enhanced mode only.

**2**) If any of your Windows files (DLLs and VBXs) are out of date,
the DiscView SETUP and NETSETUP programs will update them. The newer
files being installed are backwards compatible, so your existing
programs should still run. The files which are updated will be saved
and renamed to VB_ and DL_ in case you should need to recover them
for any reason. The install.log file in the DiscView directory
contains a list of all installed files.

**3**) GPF in DiscView after running SETUP.EXE. The SETUP program
cannot copy file NWCALLS.DLL to the Windows directory (needs to be
dated 11-02-93, file size 146544 or greater).

RESOLUTION: Exit to DOS. Place the original installation disks in
the floppy drive and change to that drive. Here you will find and
EXTRACT.EXE and NWCALLS.DL$. Type EXTRACT /U NWCALLS.DL$ <PATH TO
WINDOWS DIRECTORY>. The <path to windows directory> is the
\Windows\System directory if Windows is located on your local drive
and \Windows directory if Windows is located on the network.

This process extracts the NWCALLS file into your Windows directory.
When you re-enter Windows, this loads the new file and DiscView will
run without error.

**4**) Windows reports that NWPOPUP or NETWARE.DLL caused a GPF in
module 0001:0212. Lost network connection. (NETWARE.DLL has an actual
filename of NETWARE.DRV.)

RESOLUTION: You should be running a network-aware version of
Windows. Use Windows-Setup and Windows- Control Panel (Network
icon) to show the version numbers of the Windows network drivers.
You must have: IPX of 3.10 or greater, NETX of 3.26 or greater,
or IPXODI of version 1.20 or greater.

**5**) Unexpected error 0x89FF or 0xFFFF.

RESOLUTION: Update all CLIB.NLMs on all fileservers to the latest
version (see the DiscView On-Line Help file for more information).

**6**) Error 0x8900 Unspecified NetWare Shell Occurred OR
DiscView caused a GPF in module NETWARE.DRV at 0001:08D5.

RESOLUTION: Run in Enhanced Mode. Also check for current
NetWare drivers and sufficient memory in the workstation
(4 MB of RAM or more recommended).

5. REVISION HISTORY
----------------------------------------------------------------

Release changes from 3.01 to 3.11a:
----------------------------------

ENHANCEMENTS:

* Added support for the Microtest DiscServ product

* Added support for MAC clients on NetWare 4.X fileservers

* Additional data throughput improvements

* Additional enhancements to the command line interface on the
  fileserver console

* Added functionality to DiscView to force the NLMs to initiate a
discovery of device changes (CD-ROMs, drives and hosts).

FIXES:

* Corrected the following drive locking problems:

The Pioneer 604X was incorrectly unlocked when other volumes
tagged for auto-lock were still mounted.

The DiscPort would continually try to complete an unlock
request if a drive did not support locking (such as the
Panasonic LK-MC501S) and not process any other unlock/lock requests
to other drives on the SCSI bus. The DiscPort could eventually
stop communicating with the server if any other drive unlock/lock
    requests were initiated.

DiscView always indicated that unlock/lock operations were
successful even the selected drive did not support drive locking.

* Corrected the following Token Ring DiscPort problems:

No source network number was included in the header of all IPX
    packets.

Broadcasts were being used to communicate between the server and
DiscPort if they were both on the same ring AND source routing
    was enabled on the DiscPort.

* Corrected a problem affecting some CD-ROMS (such as NSEPRO) which
resulted in missing files/directories when the volume was mounted.

* Modified the uninstall process to delete all DiscPort image files
from the login directory and the DISCPORT.NCF file from the system
  directory.

* Improved the NLM unload process. Occasionally, the unload
operation would fail to unload all of the DiscView NLMs.

Release changes from 2.52 to 3.01:
----------------------------------

ENHANCEMENTS:

* Added support for Macintosh clients

* Added support for the Pioneer DRM-1804X Mini-Changer CD-ROM
  drive (18 CD Changer)

* Added new drive locking functionality

* Improved the command line interface on the fileserver console

* Improved the volume configuration process. The time required to
configure a new CD-ROM has been reduced to less than half the time
  required by previous releases.

* Added support for some non-SCSI-II compliant drives, such as the
  Sanyo CRD-4001

* Improved performance when multiple applications are simultaneously
reading different CD-ROMs on the same Disc Changer. Although the
total throughput has been improved by reducing the frequency of
tray switches, any tray switching will severely degrade performance
of those applications which compete for different CD-ROMs on the
  same Disc Changer.

FIXES:

* Fixed the NetWare 4.x NDS corruption problems

* Additional changes to support CD-ROMs that have 512 byte or 1024
  byte logical block sizes

* DPCDEX now allows applications to open files on a CD-ROM volume as
read-writable. Of course, the application can not actually write
to the CD-ROM, but some applications, such as HubData, will fail to
run if unable to open files as read-writable. This matches how
  MSCDEX processes open requests.

Release changes from 2.41 to 2.52:
----------------------------------

ENHANCEMENTS:

* Improved performance when users are simultaneously reading multiple
CD-ROM drives. This improvement is the result of allowing CD-ROM
drives to temporarily disconnect from the SCSI bus during seeks or
Disc Changer tray switches so that the bus can used to start or
  complete commands on other drives.

* Added support for CD-ROMs that have 512 byte or 1024 byte logical
  block sizes.

FIXES:

* CD-ROMs that have the same (or no) volume identifiers can now be
mounted. Examples of CD-ROM applications that are now supported
include the GoSystem 2 v92-10, v92-8 CD-ROM sets and the Lacerte
  Tax CD-ROM set.

Release changes from 2.30 to 2.41:
----------------------------------

ENHANCEMENTS:

* DiscView and DiscPort NLMs now support Token Ring DiscPorts

* Improved mounting time for networks where there are a large number
  of users and/or groups defined

* Added support for the Infotrac CD-ROM application

* More information has been provided in the DiscView On-Line Help
  Troubleshooting file

* On-Line Help hot-links have been provided for all DiscView messages.
This allows you to get more information about the message and get
information on how to correct the problem.

FIXES:

* DiscView now correctly recognizes users logged in directly under NDS
(NetWare Directory Services) for NetWare 4.X. Bindery emulation is no
  longer required.

* Fixed the problem that was causing the NetWare 4.X DSREPAIR utility to
complain about "invalid trustees" in mounted DiscPort volumes.

* DiscView Refresh Timer now uses new options settings (made in the Refresh
Options dialog) without the need to re-start DiscView.

* NetWare 4.0 NDS usernames are now supported to detect supervisor rights.
