      BACKGROUND

When Stacker mounts a Stacker drive it checks to see if the
STACVOL file that contains the compressed data is the proper
size. If it is not, Stacker turns on AutoProtect. AutoProtect
write-protects the Stacker drive to protect the data until the
      problem is corrected.

      SOLUTION

      To identify the problem:

       1. Start the system under DOS.
       2. Notice the message Stacker displays when your system starts.
           It may say something like:
                 D: = C: STACVOL.DSK (Size mismatch) (Write Protected)
                 Press any key to continue...
                 Swapped drives C and D

In this example, C is the compressed drive.

                            IMPORTANT
DO NOT COPY ANY FILES TO THE UNCOMPRESSED DRIVE!!

      To correct the size problem:

       1. Insert Stacker Disk # 2 into its drive. Go to that drive and
           type:
           SWAPMAP <enter>
Note the drive that is write protected. For example:
Drive C was drive x at boot time [D:\STACVOL.DSK -- Write
           Protected]
Record the drive letter in brackets, in this case D. This is
           the uncompressed drive.
       2. Run a disk repair utility or CHKDSK /F on the uncompressed
drive. In our example, that is drive D. You will probably
need to run the utility from a floppy disk. When repairing
the drive, do NOT save lost chains as files. See StacFax
64005 for details on running OS/2's CHKDSK on a Stacker
           system.
       3. If you are running CHKDSK and it lists STACVOL.DSK as being
cross-linked with any files, you must delete the file cross-
linked to STACVOL.DSK. (Feel free to copy it to a different
           disk first.)
       4. Put Stacker Disk # 2 into its drive. Go to that drive and
           type:
           \TECH\REPAIR /R D:\STACVOL.DSK <Enter>
       5. You'll see messages like:
                  Repairing host FAT...
                  Host FAT successfully repaired.
Please restart your computer so that the changes
                   may take effect
       6. Remove any floppy disks from their drives and restart the
system. Stacker should be able to properly access your
           Stacker drive.
       7. Run CHECK /F on your Stacker drive to correct any errors.
