                              FAT CHAIN CORRUPT

      BACKGROUND

Before Stacker mounts Stacker drives, it checks the File
Allocation Table (FAT) of each drive that holds a STACVOL file.
The STACVOL file contains all the compressed information of the
Stacker drive. The FAT sets aside disk space for each file,
including the STACVOL file. If the FAT sets aside the wrong
amount of space, Stacker will not mount the drive.

      SOLUTION

You need to confirm which drive has a file allocation problem.
Notice the message Stacker gives when your system starts. You may
      see a message like this:

D:=C:\STACVOL.DSK (STACVOL file size/FAT chain mismatch)
                                          (not mounted)

In this example, the filename is STACVOL.DSK, and it is located
on drive C. To correct the problem, do the following:

       1. Run a disk repair utility or CHKDSK /F on the drive (drive C
in our example). You may boot from your OS/2 Install Disk
and Disk 1, and run OS/2's CHKDSK /F on drive C. The disks
do not have to be Stacker-aware. You will see a message
           like:
           "Stacvol.dsk--Allocation error, size adjusted."
If there are any lost allocation units detected do NOT save
           lost chains to files.
       2. Insert Stacker for OS/2 & DOS Disk 2 into drive A (or B) and
           switch to that drive.
       3. Type:
           \TECH\REPAIR /R d:\STACVOL.DSK <Enter>
where d: is the drive which holds the file STACVOL.DSK
           (drive C in our example).
       4. You should see a message like the following:
                  Repairing host FAT...
                  Host FAT successfully repaired.
Please restart your computer so that the changes
                      may take effect
At that point, restart your computer. You will be able to
           access your Stacker drive.
