      BACKGROUND

Some notebook/laptop computers have a power management feature
that conserves battery power when the system is idle for a
certain period of time. If this feature starts without sufficient
warning to Stacker, some files may be corrupted. You may enable a
feature of the Stacker device driver in OS/2 to permit it to work
      correctly with power management.

      SOLUTION

       - Determine if you have the correct OS/2 mouse driver.
       - Enable Stacker's power management switch.

Determine if you have the correct OS/2 mouse driver

In order for the Stacker power management switch to work, you
must be using the appropriate version of the OS/2 mouse driver.
The new driver will receive the power management "start" signal,
and then correctly pass it on to the Stacker driver. Older
versions of the driver may not pass the signal onward.

       1. If you are using OS/2 2.11 or later, the mouse driver is
correct. If you are using any other version of OS/2, open
either a DOS or OS/2 session. Change to the OS2 directory.
       2. Type: DIR MOUSE.SYS <enter>. If the date of the file is 1-29-
94 or later, your mouse driver is correct.
       3. If the file date is prior to 1-29-94, contact IBM for the
latest driver. Install the driver before proceeding.

      Enable Stacker's power management switch

       1. In OS/2, open a DOS full screen session.
       2. Type d:\STACKER\ED <enter>, where d: is the drive letter
where you installed Stacker. This will bring up the Stacker
editor. From the File drop down menu, choose the STACOS2.INI
           file.
       3. Press <enter> to make a new first line. Arrow up to that
line and type "/PM". Do not type the quotation marks.
       4. Press CTRL-Z to save the file. Exit the DOS session and do a
normal shutdown. Restart the system for the changes to take
           effect.
