      BACKGROUND

When Stacker mounts your Stacker drives, Stacker checks to see if
everything is in order on the drive. If Stacker is unable to
correct any problems on the fly, it initiates the AutoProtect
feature. This means that the Stacker drive is write-protected to
protect your data until you can repair it. AutoProtect works only
      in DOS.

      SOLUTION

If you have a Dual Boot or Boot Manager system, start up your
system under DOS and the AutoRecovery feature will correct the
problems that caused Stacker to turn on AutoProtect.
If you do not have DOS on your system, do the following:
       1. Insert your Stacker for OS/2 & DOS Disk 1 into drive A and
           restart your computer.
       2. If your compressed drives are not available, go to the A
           prompt and type:
           CONFIG <Enter>
When prompted to accept the changes, press Y for yes.
       3. When the A prompt returns, restart your system with Stacker
Disk 1 still in the drive.
       4. Notice the message Stacker gives you. You may see a message
           like:
           D:=C: STACVOL.DSK (Run Check /F) (Write Protected)
           Press any key to continue...
When you press a key, Stacker will swap drives C and D.
Drive C will be the write-protected Stacker drive.
       5. When the A prompt appears, type:
           CHECK d: /F <Enter>
where d: is the write-protected Stacker drive. In our
           example, that is drive C.
       6. CHECK then displays an error summary and asks if you want to
repair the drive. Tell it yes by typing:
           YES <Enter>
Note that you type the complete word YES.
       7. When Stacker completes the repair of the Stacker drive,
remove the Stacker disk from drive A and restart your
system. Your system should start without a problem.
