      STACKER NOTE STACKER NOTE
                           CAN'T FIND STACVOL FILE
(Applies to Stacker for OS/2 & DOS ver 4)
      STAC FAX 64201 (1/95)
      -----------------------------------------------------------------

      BACKGROUND

When it creates a Stacker drive, Setup creates a file called
STACVOL.DSK and adds that file to the Stacker device driver line
in both the OS/2 and DOS initialization (INI) files. The DOS INI
file is STACKER.INI and the OS/2 INI file is STACOS2.INI. Every
time your system starts, the appropriate INI file is processed.
The system reads each STACVOL file listed in the INI file, and
then looks for the STACVOL file on the drive specified. For
example, if you compressed your C and D drives, the lines in
both the STACOS2.INI and STACKER.INI files would look like:

                   D:\STACVOL.DSK,SW
                   C:\STACVOL.DSK,SW
Under either OS/2 or DOS, Stacker looks for a file called
STACVOL.DSK in the root directory of drive D. Then it looks for
the file STACVOL.DSK in the root directory of drive C. If either
file doesn't exist, Stacker tells you it cannot find the file
      referenced in the INI file.

      SOLUTION

Stacker has a program, CONFIG.EXE, that searches for any STACVOL
file on any hard disk in your system. CONFIG then offers to make
the proper entries in the INI file for the operating system that
is currently running. For example, if you started your system
under DOS, it will add the correct line in your STACKER.INI. If
you Started under OS/2, it will add the correct line in the
STACOS2.INI file. It also puts the related lines for Stacker to
function properly in the appropriate CONFIG.SYS file. To run
      CONFIG.EXE:

       1. Start your computer under the operating system you want to
           modify.
       2. Get to a DOS prompt (open a DOS session if you are in OS/2.)
       3. Change to the drive where the Stacker for OS/2 & DOS files
           are stored and then type:
           CD\STACKER <Enter>
           CONFIG <Enter>
       4. To accept the recommended changes, press Y for yes.
       5. Shut the system down as you normally would and then restart
your computer to access your compressed drives.
